  • Jenny Doan is joined by Edyta Sitar to demonstrate how to make a quick and easy block of the month project, the Winter Village quilt. This quilt is a lovely blue and white quilt kit that is purchased through a subscription. Instead of paying for all your supplies in one lump sum, you pay a little each month and we send out everything needed to make that month's block. Sew fun! Best of all, the last BOM month includes the sashing, border, and binding fabrics plus a Missouri Star Quilt Co. Machine Quilting Services Coupon for 10% off.

Edyta Sitar designs beautiful projects for Laundry Basket Quilts of Andover Fabric. She has designed a few block of the month programs specifically for Missouri Star Quilt Co, and we think she is just wonderful!
This quilt combines patchwork piecing and applique. Each and every little house is different, so if you love house quilts, this quilt is for you!
Missouri Star Quilt Co. provides free quick and easy sewing, quilting, and craft tutorials because we love to create. We offer these free online quilting classes to teach and inspire everyone-even the beginner. Precut fabric is used in most of our projects, and we have lots of tips and tricks to make quilting fast and simple.

Oh my goodness! Everybody just calm down! I love this quilt and while I can't afford it, I thought it was great inspiration to possibly draw up something of my own. It was a cute video and not everything has to be budget friendly. Jenny shows us all the time how to use every single scrap and I thought this amazingly detailed block of the month video was refreshing and fun. This happens in everything, magazines show you the $20 face cream, the $100 and the $350. You get what you can, but sometimes its fun to splurge or just see what else is out there!

I bought the pattern and used my own fabric. I had some blues and bought a few more. I made my background all one fabric. I can never afford the kits. Also I am making my own applique from the pattern. I can not afford the precut snowflakes and branches. Mine will take more time and effort but do what you can with what you have.

Price of eating out for two people in most areas of our country... I too had to justify joining this block of the month project, but I did.... bought extra fabric to add 2 borders. Love blue and white and winter snowflake theme. Got the kit today , only complaint fabric not the same as cover pictures and no labeling of what color to use for each block... watched the tutorial so I know colors for first house guess I guess for next two, hope I guess correctly.

Hello to my two patchwork teachers from across the Atlantic ...... Thanks to you 2 I got to patchwork.
Thanks to Jenny I started correctly from the people I meet now.
Thanks to Edyta I discovered and patches in batik and heat-applied appliqué ...... which became my favorite (especially with the silhouettes).
So a thousand thanks to all 2 .... You are my favorite creators.
I have the complete collection of fabrics and the kit of the houses panel, I still could not start because I am in the middle of my cartons of the move ...... I hope ....
I wish you and your families and collaborators a GOOD AND HAPPY NEW YEAR 2019 full of happiness and joy of everyday life.

Also, the Clover pins she recommends (the yellow and blue glass head pins) are excellent for piecing. They're the thinnest I've found which makes them glide through fabric like it's nothing, and they're the absolute perfect length for piecing.

This is my first quilting project. I know what you’re thinking and you may be right. But I couldn’t resist! So beautiful! I made my first skirt when I was 10 y/o. Mom, seeing that she couldn’t keep me from wearing it to school said “ok but take a pair of shorts with you today” haha she was right! Being a lot older and a little wiser I am finding differences between the human body and a bed top with my very first part of this quilt. I wondered if anyone else were also finding trouble. Until then ...... where is my seem ripper!

With all my purchased Paper Patterns from stores/online, both Crosstitch and Quilting... I make photocopies of the whole pattern...the originals get 'Archived' in my Pattern Folder...and the copy get used, written on, crossed things off, marked on, cut apart...so that I always have the original in perfect condition. This pattern is lovely...I got mine for about $25 last year...and will use my Stash to build the houses.

I love your regular tutorials so much and look forward to Friday's to see what new patterns you have. Jenny, your patterns normally are so easy and I can easily use fabric from my stash that I I already have. I agree with the comments about the price of this subscription. $50+ with tax is a LOT for a small amount of fabric and a pattern. But I did go ahead and subscribe for three reasons -- (1) the pacing of "block of the month". I tend to either rush through a project or delay it so long that I have forgotten why I started it in the first place. The monthly package reminds me to get going, but slows my pace so that I can take the time to do the project well. (2) I have difficulty sometimes choosing coordinating fabrics that satisfy me, so having the fabric selected for me and a clear pattern to follow really helps me. (3) I wanted access to the perfectly cut appliques that come with the kit. I would never be able to hand-cut the snowflakes & birds so carefully.
However, I do admit to some disappointment. The price, of course, was shocking, but also I was hoping for more detailed video tutorials to go with the subscription. I could have used some brief advice on cutting and piecing the house patterns. An abbreviated video to go along with each block would have been helpful. Also, I wish the monthly kits would include more detailed suggestions of which fabric to use for which piece. I've been squinting at the pattern cover to determine which pieces are which.
Otherwise, though, I'm enjoying this project and am very pleased with how the blocks are turning out. I suspect someone at MSQ is reading these comments and will take them into consideration for future "block of the month" projects.

I ordered the BOM too and I'm getting the same fabrics for month 1-3 without enough variety for the houses or beige for the background. The amount I'm receiving is also very disappointing as you don't get enough, you're very limited as to which ones you can use for each house. I've also had several screw-ups, being sent BOM 1 two months in a row (although mostly the exact same thing) being charged twice in the same month without receiving the previous months BOM. I emailed Missouri Star about the fabrics I was sent, as I was trying to follow the fabric selection that Edyta Sitar had on hers. I was sent a blanketed statement from them that they took from Edyta Sitar. Something to the effect that "You have the flexibility to choose what ever fabrics you want for each house and that there is not the specific fabric to use for each house". Well, when you're sent almost the exact same limited amount of fabrics each month it's a little hard to make and choices and the first 3 blocks will all look the same when you're being sent the same fabrics over and over. Extremely disappointed especially when considering how OVER priced this quilt is! I"ve always gotten excellent quality and service from this company but with this BOM, I feel a little scammed and wondering if the owner is aware of all the problems.

I’ll bet if you’re patient, the pattern only will be available after the BOM is complete. I’ve never done a BOM, so I don’t know how the cost compares. I know that designers, etc are in the business to make money, but the price does seem a bit steep. Maybe if I loved the quilt, it would be worth it to me. Personally, I don’t do kits because I don’t want to make a quilt that 7000 other people have made the exact same quilt. Might as well buy one from the store, but that is just my opinion.
