This move is so fun to do, I taught myself how to do it a little over 3 years ago, it took about 2 weeks to get down perfectly, but once you learn it you can do it without hands just as easily, that's what people don't understand, the power doesn't come from your arms, unless you're doing a more movie style one where you get knocked onto your back and you are trying to rebound to your feet faster

I don't have any expensive fitness mats but I can recommend investing in some cheap kind of camping foam mat. The one I use was 5 euros. It's been with me for years and covered with duct tape by now, but it has been one of my best invested 5 euros. My spine and tailbone used to be bruised all of the time, not anymore now -they're both super grateful for it. :) It's also kind of a multi purpose device, keeps the table from sliding when I practice dragon flags etc.
The link below is my mat, just to show you what I mean. I have no financial interest in this firm and I'm not even sure if they operate in the US. www.decathlon.be/nl/p/schuimmat-voor-trekking-arpenaz-m100-grijs/_/R-p-13259?mc=5591048&c=GRIJS
