What we have experienced in the past 2years or more concerning mandates and threatening medical licenses and jobs is the most recent example of the corersion of a politically powerful group I have seen in my lifetime. I don't know whether to call it Communist in nature or Totalitarianism, which is what Marxism and communism ultimately become. But it is a frightening scenario being played out not only in the US, but worldwide.
How did we get here so quickly?

Wow she name dropped Frederic Bastiat - one of the great intellects of all time. Very obscure though unless you like Austrian Economics. His broken window fallacy and his “Petition of the Candlemakers” are so good. George Roche III wrote a biography of him that’s really good.

Dr Spalding's detailing of communist ideology and history was most enlightening. However, I would also argue that she understated the case, in referring to the sciences as being relatively insulated from cultural Marxism during the mid-20th century. Specifically, by 1960, the completely mechanistic idea that there is no God; that rather, life arose spontaneously over the eons from random molecular events, was entrenched in the science curriculum from high school on up in the US. This idea was first published by AI Oparin in 1925. Oparin was a Soviet biochemist who graduated from the Moscow State University in 1917, when and where the Russian Revolution was hatched. Oparin himself received the Lenin prize and was revered until he died in 1980--old and happy--in the Soviet Union, for he had provided the theoretical underpinning of Marxist ideology. His ideas were echoed almost verbatim by, for example, Linus Pauling, an avowed socialist and perhaps the most celebrated life scientist of the 20th century. Shortly before his death in 1987 Pauling called the line between the living and non-living world as "quite arbitrary. The properties of living organisms are those of aggregates of molecules."
