Adam's beatboxing was completely insane. He took it to a whole another level. I did not even recognize Austin's voice in this. He went into full stage musical acting mode. Tim was hilarious dressed up as Capt. Jack Sparrow. I wonder what the neighbors thought seeing a pirate outside and it isn't even Halloween? And Rob, he really did a nice twist to his mustache. Overall, it was completely entertaining and the harmonies on point as only HF can do them.
I needed to remind myself that NO there's no percussion, just one very talented guy :)

It's strange how many times I get drawn to search out these guys just for an uplifting song . And as I work through what playlists I can find I am not disappointed. Tim has an amazing range and boy I never knew a bass could go as low as he has . It's great as a group they compliment each others abilities so well and just blend brilliantly.

I have no idea how Adam (with help from the others I'm sure) maintained such a crazy good beat throughout that song. And I knew Santiana before, first in French (very watered down IMHO) and then in English, and theirs is the best ever version. Gives me shivers.

Not to diminish their voices since being impressed by singing is a baseline for groups like this, but the editing and logistics behind that video were absolutely stellar. They combined some of the most popular sea shanties into one Medley. Beginning a new song was seamless and introduced a different person of the cast as the main singer. At the beginning, they edited together the screens appearing according to the beats.
Jimmy Bates - he's been working as a cameraman and editor with acapella musicians from Peter Hollens to Pentatonix to Home Free for 10 years now, and he's got such a gift for interesting and creative videos with limited resources.

Love eveything about this song. Everyone's voices, the lyrics, the beat, the video and the theatrics. I can listen and watch to this all the time. Truly the best sea song!
Everything on sailing ships back in the day was done by hand and needed sometimes over a hundred men working together as one. Sea shanties grew because is was a way to keep time and also to 'give heart' and distract from what was often backbreaking work. For example on warships such as HMS Victory it required up to 144 men to raise the anchors. Often a 'fiddler' would sit atop the capstan to play a shanty for the men to work along to! I just wish they would do longer or complete versions of these songs, such a truly evocative and amazing performance.

i first heard Santiana in this medley and thought "that song was ballin!" I scoured the interwebs for other arrangements because i wanted more, but sadly, i couldn't find anything that came near to capturing the energy and excitement theses guys put behind it. plus, the castanets were pure chef's kiss. they need to release a full version of Santiana only!

What I really liked was that they all sang low in their registers.None of the high falsetto from Austin or soaring runs from Rob. Just rock solid low harmonies with Adam's driving beat setting the tempo and then the amazing "castenets" in the Santiana section.
