At the end of the day this young man has a blind spot in his wealth of knowledge. Unfortunately, most people don't have any idea of what CRT is or that it's taught at college levels(post high school). Having a discussion about race or racism in K-12 doesn't qualify as CRT. Ask yourself, why would white people have a problem with their kids knowing exactly what their people did or are still doing blacks? Seeing and acknowledging INJUSTICES as a BLACK person doesn't mean you're a racist.
If you don't lie, it's not wrong -- but I feel we should be teaching them right from wrong instead. No reason my 6 year old should be learning about segregation in reading material sent home with pictures of kids from the past holding racist signs. My daughter could've done without knowing a racial term. She wouldn't have learned a word like that in my house. Bravo to the speaker. Teaching the history, in my opinion, is essentially teaching it. @@tragedy8000 It is definitely a reason for learn it at 6, if they are learning history. That's my issue, some try to cherry pick what is taught. Teaching that way isn't the complete truth. It is taught in ways that make white people feel good. If someone non-white told a white person, their history make me and kids feel uncomfortable so you can't teach that. There would be an uproar. The fact black history is even debated on how much of it can be taught without making white people uncomfortable is a problem in itself. If my kids can't talk and learn about their history....then they shouldn't be allowed to learn "white people's version of history". Can't pretend it didn't happen because it make some uncomfortable. What if I said stop teaching the Holocaust or 9/11....no one would be ok with that as they shouldn't. I'm over non black people trying to limit how black history is taught. If I was forced to learn about the history of white people...then all of the history needs to be taught...included the parts that make white people uncomfortable. Black history is rich and it didn't begin at slavery...but the way white people have created the curriculum...you would think that it did. Just want to also say that if anything should be added to the school curriculum, it should be something all kids need. How about CLS, meaning Critical Life Skills? Teach them skills they will need like how to choose and prepare for a job or career in the future, how to start their own businesses, how to rent or buy a home, how to purchase a vehicle, how to shop for and prepare food, how to balance a budget, how to save, buy insurance, invest, plan their future families, prepare for retirement, etc... those Critical Life Skills that almost all will need to know. I'm 42, black, male. I was deeded (given, no money exchanged) a plot of land by a white guy because he saw the value in retaining me as one of his closest team members. My work ethic, organization skills, people skills, and trustworthiness with money are what impressed him. White people aren't trying to hold blacks down, they just won't put up with blacks who refuse to acknowledge that it is ultimately merit that decides your placement in society. What impresses successful white people is a person of color who realizes that in America most whites and most persons of color have more in common than they do out of common in that success in America is first and essentially about a spirit that refuses to see itself as a victim.
Very well said, but I have to disagree with you on one thing. The reason why white people and black people have a lot in common is because we're human beings. Morgan Freeman was once asked how do you end racism which he replied, "Stop talking about it." I don't refer to my friends as my black friend Tokara, my Asian friend Mai, my Hispanic friend Tiarra. I refer to them as my friend, period. Especially as Americans, we have a ton in common. I'm the type of person who has never seen color or race because my parents never raised my 3 brothers and I that way. My best male friend in high school, who I still talk to, is black, but I don't mention his race because it's not necessary. He's my best friend Ron and he's a fantastic friend. Sorry for the long reply. I wanted to explain what I said because it came from a good place. FYI, I attended a private Catholic elementary school 99.9% white population. For high school, I went to an 80% black inner-city school and had the best time! I graduated in the mid to late 90s, and the one thing that was barely talked about was race.
Why not have men like this inspire the children in schools- he could show every child of every race how to become what they strive to be. He could teach every child how to succeed rather than make excuses. Imagine the inspiration he could be!

Well actually, the oppression of people of color isn’t a lie. It’s important that you realize that. I understand why some people are hesitant to have their kids learn CRT, but it’s not because what it teaches is a lie. Most people (Black and white alike) enjoy a bit of revisionist history because the truth is painful… but it’s still the truth.

I am now a retired surgeon, but when I was in medical school I was one of a handful of minority students in my entire school. I had some very racist professors who did not have much respect for me when I first got there but by the time I I graduated I had gained their respect. I am nothing special but one thing I knew and believed since I was a child was the only person in this world who could stop me from achieving my goals WAS ME.

I recently became a Father. Our baby is thriving. We treat her with the utmost respect and allow her to explore her growth. I will assuredly be homeschooling her and we will enroll her in all kinds of activities so you can socialize and build meaningful relationships

I'm with dad!... I was raised in poverty... left home and dropped out of school in the 9th grade... started dancing in a strip club at 16... lived on the streets... slept at public bus stops .. ect.. It wasn't until I was 27 and living in a housing project that I decided to stop making excuses for myself and allowing my past to dictate my future... Racism does exist... and it will always exist, but that doesn't mean that it has to oppress you. When I decided to make changes in my life... nothing, and no one could stop me. I'm now the first person in my family to have a college degree.. make over 120k a year.... and have a job that I absolutely love.

No reason my 6 year old should be learning about segregation in reading material sent home with pictures of kids from the past holding racist signs. It is taught in ways that make white people feel good. If someone non-white told a white person, their history make me and kids feel uncomfortable so you can't teach that. There would be an uproar. The fact black history is even debated on how much of it can be taught without making white people uncomfortable is a problem in itself. If my kids can't talk and learn about their history....then they shouldn't be allowed to learn "white people's version of history".

Teach them skills they will need like how to choose and prepare for a job or career in the future, how to start their own businesses, how to rent or buy a home, how to purchase a vehicle, how to shop for and prepare food, how to balance a budget, how to save, buy insurance, invest, plan their future families, prepare for retirement, etc... those Critical Life Skills that almost all will need to know. I was deeded (given, no money exchanged) a plot of land by a white guy because he saw the value in retaining me as one of his closest team members. My work ethic, organization skills, people skills, and trustworthiness with money are what impressed him.
White people aren't trying to hold blacks down, they just won't put up with blacks who refuse to acknowledge that it is ultimately merit that decides your placement in society.
What impresses successful white people is a person of color who realizes that in America most whites and most persons of color have more in common than they do out of common in that success in America is first and essentially about a spirit that refuses to see itself as a victim.

Sorry for the long reply. I wanted to explain what I said because it came from a good place. FYI, I attended a private Catholic elementary school 99.9% white population. For high school, I went to an 80% black inner-city school and had the best time! I graduated in the mid to late 90s, and the one thing that was barely talked about was race.
Why not have men like this inspire the children in schools- he could show every child of every race how to become what they strive to be. He could teach every child how to succeed rather than make excuses. Imagine the inspiration he could be!

I am now a retired surgeon, but when I was in medical school I was one of a handful of minority students in my entire school. I had some very racist professors who did not have much respect for me when I first got there but by the time I I graduated I had gained their respect. I am nothing special but one thing I knew and believed since I was a child was the only person in this world who could stop me from achieving my goals WAS ME.

I'm with dad!... I was raised in poverty... left home and dropped out of school in the 9th grade... started dancing in a strip club at 16... lived on the streets... slept at public bus stops .. ect.. It wasn't until I was 27 and living in a housing project that I decided to stop making excuses for myself and allowing my past to dictate my future... Racism does exist... and it will always exist, but that doesn't mean that it has to oppress you. When I decided to make changes in my life... nothing, and no one could stop me. I'm now the first person in my family to have a college degree.. make over 120k a year.... and have a job that I absolutely love.
