  • Today we're getting back to our GA roots; we're hanging out with my friend Jim and his BEAUTIFUL Piper Warrior II.
    It's got glass. It's got ADS-B. It's got a new interior. It's got autopilot! She's a beaut, Clark! C'mon in & let's go to DC for lunch!

Awesome channel!! I came across your channel from a link in a comment on Reddit, and promptly watched all your videos. Have you considered doing a video about the modifications the NASA C-130 and P-3 have to facilitate the installation of the scientific instruments? For example, do the have more powerful generators to power the science? Did they cut holes in the floor? Do the have built in computer networks? Or how about external instrument mounting points? What I'm asking is, ignoring the scientific instruments that are changed regularly, how were the air-frames themselves modified? What i can tell about the P-3 is the obvious removal of weapons systems and the removal of the MAD boom [which somewhat surprised me, I would have thought that the MAD boom might be a good mounting spot for some instruments].

Hey Cameron, first off, thank you SO MUCH for the compliment and the poignant comment & questions. That’s a great idea, and while I knew in the back of my mind that there was a way to highlight how these aircraft are different & special, I hadn’t quite gotten my finger on it yet, & your suggestion is exactly the right answer. Thank you for the suggestion. I’ll start scripting out how to tell the story today.
Interesting observation about the removal of the MAD boom. Most of the scientists data are collected physically through various probes, or by measuring particles that pass through LASER beams that are wing mounted however, so the extra weight of a full boom isn’t necessary. I’ll see if I can get some detailed shots of how those probes work.
Again, a sincere thanks for taking time out of your day to watch my videos. If you know anyone else who might like them, please share it with them. I’ve gained nearly 200 subs just from that ONE Reddit post you saw, so it illustrates the power of social media.

@@UnusualAttitudes I'm glad to have helped, your channel is one of the few sources that doesn't just skip over the interesting technical stuff, even the official NASA videos usually just say "A modified " and don't mention how it was modified unless it is visually obvious.

Exactly. they're always playing to the lowest common denominator. I don't. MY LCD is at the very least an aviation enthusiast, and most likely an aviation professional. Thanks again, dude.

I flew a Warrior back in the day
I preferred it over the 172 just because it gave me smoother landings and won me over to the low wing Great affordable air craft

I agree- it’s a super nice Warrior! (It seems like he knew what he was getting into when he did it though.) But, as he said, he’s a ‘while I’m in there...’ kinda guy. (As am I. 🤦🏻‍♂️)
