    Although most nursing students and nurses will rely on machines to report blood pressure readings, they should know how to take a manual blood pressure. This tutorial provides an example of taking a blood pressure in the arm.
    In addition, there are a few tips and techniques you'll want to use. You want to place the cuff so that the arrow lines up on the arm.

    I’m in nursing school and my instructors recommend you all the time. I was struggling with hearing where the diastolic is so I started looking up different videos to understand the systolic sound. I switched my ear tips to a smaller size as well, but no matter what I did I couldn’t get the correct BP. I found this video yesterday before my vital signs assessment and like how you broke down both of the sounds and how to tell them apart. During my assessment I said 140/92 and the correct BP was 140/90! Got it within the 2 point range. Thank you for all that you do!

I always tell people if it’s high, low, or good and exactly what their number is. It’s important for everyone to know what their “normal” blood pressure is.

      @@RegisteredNurseRN thanks for saying that. I was really starting to wonder if I was wasting my time in my MA program, being that I really am aiming for nursing. My plan was to work as an MA through nursing school, but not many people I have met think that is a good idea.

    I'm a nursing student & ive been having a hard time "listening" to the first & last thump, do you think it's my stethoscope? I love your videos btw!

    • @RegisteredNurseRN
      @RegisteredNurseRN  Před 7 lety +49

      Hello Mark! It is hard at first to tell which sound is the first (S1) and the second (S2). If you can't hear it at all...then it may be your stethoscope. However, make sure you are placing the diaphragm directly on the artery and avoid placing it over clothes (because this muffles the sound). Also, if you check the carotid pulse in the neck and listen with your stethoscope over the heart at the same time...the "thump" that coincides with the carotid pulse is S1 (the first thump). I have a video that goes in depth with heart sounds if you are interested here: czcams.com/users/RegisteredNurseRNsearch?query=heart+sounds
      I hope that helps!

    hi, I am so glad you have this video, I work in a hospital as a patient care tech I do almost the same as what a CNA does but a little more. whenever I do a blood pressure on one of my patients and it's too high or low I told my nurses to do it manually but now I am in a nursing program at college and I know I will have to learn to do it manually. I know it is difficult but I refresh from your teaching I hope I can do it better when needed to. thank a lot.( we used the modern day one).

I just learned today how to properly wash our hands and how to put on and remove PPE, it was no verve wracking having her watch me do it, but I did it write and got those 2 skills checked off! We also learned about vital signs today, and ofc BP is one of them. I kept trying it on different people and I could never understand it, so I just gave it up. Been practicing on my siblings and I somewhat got it. But this video helps me understand ALOT more!! So thank you so very much!! I hope to be as smart as you one day (: oh btw, last semester in Anatomy & Physiology 2 we learned blood flow thru the
