    Thanks, Lindsay! So nice to see the type of lines you can make. Plus, I love the idea of painting on paper you can use for prints to make wrapping paper 👍🏻. I love quills and mops and have an indecent sized collection of them. 🫣🤭 I want to give a shoutout to Jackson's own brand RAVEN synthetic quills. They are excellent quality, are reasonably priced, have a great point and carry lots of water. The Escoda sintético line also has wonderful quills, handmade in Spain and carry buckets of water. Your video made me think I need to get my quills out for a good painting sesh! Thanks, Lindsay!

    Hullo Lindsay, I have used Quill brushes for Calligraphy and I believe that Quill brushes are made for Asian alphabets and hand lettering. I remember when I took a class on hand lettering and I was “razzed” a bit as I had brought rounds and I was told that unless I had the correct brushes I would never be able to create the correct symbols for the class. I am truly happy with the Aqua Elite brushes from Princeton. They are a faux Kolinsky and there is only a size 6 Quill in this line of brushes. I use mop brushes so much more than quills, but I did buy the number 6 from Princeton just to have it for lettering! Thank you for sharing all of your ideas and knowledge on these brushes with us. You are truly inspirational and so generous with your time and knowledge. Please take care and enjoy the rest of your day!

    I love my princeton neptune quill. It's my first and only quill. I got mine in a size 4 and it helps me cover large areas in my sketchbooks. Idk why but I don't like using large round brushes. And the ones I get pre-packaged in sets don't compare to my quill. 😅

    This is a great comparison of quill brushes! I ended getting the 9 piece red set Phoenix brand from light wish when they had their BOGO free sale. It looks to me like they are the same as the other 2 red sets you have. I like them pretty well, but I definitely don't need them all or use the super regularly as I don't paint big at the moment. They are very handy when I do washes and the smaller size work well for everyday loose florals, but a few months ago, I got my hands on a set of Sliver Black Velvet brushes and fell in love with them; so they are my go to brushes. I really love the way they bend and move, even when they don't snap back all the way. Brushes really are personal to each individual. Thanks for sharing

    Lindsay, this isn't about quill brushes however I did want you to make a couple comments. Firstly I was looking at a video that just happened to pop up, up on my curiosity about whether ink pads are water-based ink pads are permanent or not from 12 years ago. And I can really hear from 12 years ago that sort of New England may be more specific Maine accent and your voice is a little bit higher it's amazing what age will do it's so cute. But you're cute all around and it keeps everyone coming back in quite sure. I just want to say I have not seen this on CZcams but I ordered something on chemo from Marie's colors you know the popular Chinese brand memories they have a set out on Timnath the only place I've ever seen it. These are the highest quality Marie's paints I have ever come across and I have bought almost all of them because I've done a lot of Chinese brush paintings, but these are 100% Western professional quality Paints Period No comma they're not the Marie's Masters I have those These come in pans but they're the oversized pans Something that would fit A Asian brush you know the longer hairs Just like the Japanese Pans that everyone so Gaga over From what two years ago or what not So they're oversized like that And it's called everything spring Period I really think you should try to do a review of They are fantastic if I could send you a picture I did a Swatch of them and they're Amazing they look like my M Grant paints And my M Grant paints are my to me My most Wow factor paints and I have All the big boys you know But my M Grahams are just my favorite They have that itp factor. Yes it's all in Chinese but through Google lens and taking a photo I was able to oh no excuse me through Google translator on the camera mode I was able to put detect language translate to English, take a photo and then Google translate will do its best to translate..... sometimes you need to do a couple photos to get a proper translation but after a couple photos and it keeps coming up at the same thing it's pretty much the best I can do anyway to the best of my recollection without going up to the third floor where my studio is. I do believe it's called Everything spring but it should not be hard to find out with the simple keywords of Marie's paints pans, okay thank you Lindsay and get back to me if you read this message and you've heard about them okay thank you so much love your videos thank you for taking your time, Lindsay

    I own a bunch of real squirrel & synthetic quills, and I can confirm, the Neptunes perform the most like real squirrel quills. I gave my Neptune to a friend who is just starting watercolor. I love normally love Rosemary & Co brushes, but I was disappointed in their synthetic squirrel - the paint drops off it at the weirdest times! For those in Europe, Tintoretto makes *amazing* synthetic squirrel quills too.

    Very helpful video Lindsay. My favorite synthetic squirrel quills are the Raphael SoftAqua in sizes 3/0, 0 and 2. They're reasonably priced, especially on Blick and Jerry's and Amazon has a few sizes for good prices. They're fat and juicy yet come to a nice point. My next faves are the DaVinci Casaneo though they're a bit more pricey. I've been eyeing those Lightwish quills.

      Hullo, natural hair brushes vary so much in quality and depending upon what hairs and where they come from the animal will determine the “SnapBack” of the brushes. Squirrel hair is one of the softer hair even Mimik synthetic hair brushes will “act” like a very soft hair brush. Usually the softer the hair the more water/paint it can hold. Every painter has a preference for painting and what works best for them! I have purchased a lot of brushes over the years and I simply never buy more than one brush when trying a new brand or line from a brand. I only buy sets after trying one out. Brushes sold only on sets and not available individually, I think of as a money grab, just my opinion but I am not looking for a budget option or solution. I am truly happy with the Aqua Elite line from Princeton brushes and there is only 1 quill in that line of brushes a number 6 and it is enough for me. I prefer mop brushes for wide swaths of color and a number 12 for a fine line with plenty of holding power(amount of water/paint the brush can hold). Good luck!

    • @SherlockOhms119
      @SherlockOhms119 Před 5 měsíci

      @@mjpete27 Thank you. They were supposedly Sable but more like cat fur, sold separate, but I bought the set, the mop brush didn't perform as a mop either.
