Hey guys, first of all Shiva is male, he is a deva (god) not a devi (godess). The Bull Flag, Nandi Flag or Vrushabha Flag is the flag of shaivism, and Nandi is the name of the gate-guardian deity of Kailasa, the abode of Shiva. He is usually depicted as a bull which also serves as the mount to Shiva. According to Shaivite siddhantic tradition, he is considered as the chief guru of eight disciples, Nandi teach them the divine knowledge of Agamic and Tantric wisdom taught by Shiva from goddess Parvati, and then they were send to eight directions to spread the wisdom of shaivism.
Well, now let's talk about the origin of the lyrics. This song is inspired by a strota (hymn) called Mahamrityunjaya strotam which is supposed to have been sung by the rishi (sage) Markandeya after being saved by Shiva from Yama the God of Death. Shiva killed Yama and then revived him, under the condition that the devout Markandeya would live forever. For this act, Shiva was thereafter also known as Kalantaka "The Ender of Death" or Kala Kalaya "The One who kills Death", and Markandeya is considered a Chiran Yivin, a person who lives forever.
Ok, so after all that... the lyrics go something like this:
Devadevam jagannatham devesam vrushabhadwajam, Namami sirasa devam, kim no mrutyu karishyathi.
The Lord, Who is the God of gods, Who is the lord of the earth, And who has the bull flag. What can death do to the one, Who salutes with his head to the god.
Anatham avyayam santham akshamala dharam haram,
Who is limitless, Who cannot be explained, Who is peaceful, Who is the killer, And who wears the garland of ruraxs (literally translates to furious eyes)
Aaandham, paramam nithyam, kaivalya pada dhayinam,
Who is happiness, Who is beyond thought, Who is stable, And who grants salvation.
    Swargapavarga datharam srushti sthithyanthakarinam,
Who grant heaven and salvation, Who looks after creation, upkeep and destruction.
This keeps repeating, with some other names of Shiva thrown in along with 'Namah/Namami' which means 'I bow to thee'.

Sorry bro but ur talking about rudra. Shankar . And Shiva is just different. Shiva is whole dark universe. It no male nor female. Rudra is male and they all are one entity. That's why we say Shiva is shunya and ikaaee means it's everywhere and nowhere at same time

Seen a few videos on " The Search for the Real Jesus,"
In one myth by the " mystic traditions " Jesus first travel to India in his 20's after growing up and training in Egypt as a teenager. Then after getting nailed to a tree then took his wife and children to live out the rest of his life in India.
The other traditions is that his wife and children flee to Spain then went up into Scotland and founded a royal blood line.
As for myself, I am more into evolution and reincarnation and we are in the current Hindu Kali Cycle with close to 3,000 years of warfare and suffering left.

Finally some Rotting Christ! They're geniuses. Especially Sakis (singer, guitarist and lyricist). Rotting Christ is the band that got me into black metal. Their first albums were 100% black metal but now you can't even describe "their genre" anymore. I usually call them ritualistic black metal haha. I think their last album "Rituals" has songs in 7 different languages. If you want you can react to some of their english songs like The Sign Of Evil Existence (first album, black metal), Transform all Suffering Into Plagues (same) or Non serviam which is probably their most popular song. Otherwise you could react to songs like Kata Ton Daimona Eaytoy (greek and english), In Yumen/Xibalba (Mayan and english), Apage Satana (greek christian prayer), Χ Ξ Σ (greek, very popular song) or Ze Nigmar (my favourite one, Hebrew).

Alluding to trinities, that's a really interesting thing to me since I've always really been into comparative mythologies and such, I've always been very interested in how these peoples who had almost no chance of ever meeting each other end up having similar elements in their beliefs. There's also trinities in Celtic religion (several actually) and quite a few in Greek mythology and things as well. I'm mainly thinking of the goddess Hecate being seen as a triple goddess a lot.

Thanks :). Their album Paracletus is probably the one Ive delved into the most of all albums in general. I was writing a review for one local metal website and it was a great ride. Though, having a 3 (or was it 4?) A4 page review was probably a bit overkill, I really enjoyed writing it :). I think the main tipping point for me to get deeper with it was when I saw that curious line in Amos 5:18 on their tshirt for the album. So Ive read up on the context quite a bit. Even the first time Ive listened to the album, Ive had to had their booklet from vinyl spread in from of me, because I really wanted to follow the thread. It is a concept album, so I think you could guess what comes before the final track called Apokastasis Panton ;).

This is inspired from an Ode to Lord Shiva, considered the God of the Gods and The Destroyer according to Hindu Mythology.
The language is Sanskrit. I was blown when I saw RC did a song in Sanskrit, and it sounds sick.
I have compiled the parts used in the song along with English Translation for anyone who is curious:
Starts with 'Gayatri Mantra' followed by the 'Strota' (Ode).
    Devadevam jagannatham devesam vrushabhadwajam,
Namami sirasa devam, kim no mrutyu karishyathi.
    The Lord,
Who is the God of gods,
Who is the lord of the earth,
And who has the bull flag.
What can death do to the one,
Who salutes with his head to the god.
Anatham avyayam santham akshamala dharam haram,
    Who is limitless,
    Who cannot be explained,
    Who is peaceful,
    Who is the killer,
And who wears the garland of ruraxs (literally translates to furious eyes.
Aaandham, paramam nithyam, kaivalya pada dhayinam,
    Who is happiness,
    Who is beyond thought,
    Who is stable,
    And who grants salvation.
    Swargapavarga datharam srushti sthithyanthakarinam,
    Who grant heaven and salvation,
Who looks after creation, upkeep and destruction.

A band I think would be really interesting to have you discuss and react to is Terra Tenebrosa, especially their video for "Where Shadows Have Teeth" (their last album is the only one with available lyrics). They're an experimental/Avant-gard metal band from Sweden whose songs explore the dark side of dreams and the human psyque. The singer wears a mask that represents the Cuckoo, an entity he says has appeared to him throughout his life acting either as a good or bad influence/guide.

GREAT TALK! Also, more Rotting Christ, please. There's 30 years of albums to choose from. Rituals, Kronos, and Genesis are great starting points. \m/

17:06 YES, VIN! VICTORY! I've been saying *this* about metal for maybe two decades now, and *Rituals* is an album that I'd like to shove in every nay-sayer's face as a proof of my claim! =D

Rotting christ are one of the few bands in the black metal scene that still attract new audiences throughout their career.
I have been listening to black metal for over twenty five years. I even DJ played it in a nightclub in Birmingham called Xl's.
Over the past 25 years there have been many bands come and go, but the true essence of black metal is emotions, and the feelings that it creates within the listener.
When you guys did the reaction to Emperor I Am the black wizards, Sori said she gets a vision of mountains, and trees swaying in the background, well, well done Sori, because that is exactly what black metal is about, getting in touch with your inner self, your inner awareness. I thought "yes, way to go, she finally gets it."
Rotting christ Rituals is probably the best album to come out of the black metal scene in years. I would put this album up there with Emperor - in the nightside eclipse, Mayhem - De mysteries som Satanas, dimmu borgir - death cult armageddon, satyricon - dark medieval times, summing - Old mornings dawn, Abigor -Leytmotif Luzifer (The 7 Temptations of Man) and cradle of filth The principle of evil made flesh.
More Rotting christ reviews and reactions please, XIBALBA would be fantastic.
