Yes I can relate to this. Saying “I love you” is not a regular habit in Asian family culture. Asian parents often live in such a way where acts of service are the proof of their love. Cooking for us, providing for us, clothing us, doing everything they can to make sure we are better off than they were.
Pushing us to study so we do well in school, so we get good jobs, so we don't have to starve, so we can be healthy, so have a roof over our head and a bed to sleep on.
I know this because the question is always, "Have you eaten? Are you healthy? Are you getting enough sleep?"
I am biased, but Asian parents are the embodiment of "actions speak louder than words."

Plus most of indonesian languages dont even have the word to express love in a less-romantic way, such as 'sayang' in standard bahasa. Like in my language we only have the romantic one ('cinta' in standard bahasa).
Saying 'sayang' would be really awkward as I only speak my mother tongue to my family and saying the romantic one would be weird af. lol

I'm indonesian. Actually english is not commonly used in indonesian. But some people use english to each other, they often use english words while speaking. For me it's not cool, but I have to say that in Indonesia if you speak english, you'll be considered cool and sometimes smart too.

I'm Indonesian, the words "I love you" and "I miss you" is always making me cry so I often avoid to say that directly 😂 Instead of that I express those words as "How are you?" "How do you do?" and things like that. If I really want to say I love you or I miss you, I write it in the letter. TO AVOID THE TEARS YES HAHA

I'm not Asian but it is probably bc languages that aren't English usually hold more weight. Aku Sayang mama probably has slightly deeper meaning than just "I love you". it's so weird bc I grew up with French in my household so I know about difference in language and stuff like that.

I believe that's because as Indonesian, we don't say "aku sayang kamu" that much, and from what i've learn that when you speak english , "I love you" is something that everyone can say to everyone. It's not "literally" everyone but from that example we know that english speaker having the "parabole" habbit that sometimes make a word doesn't sound/feel as deep as it should be specially when we compare the english word with the litterally translation word in other language. It's only my opinion, and sorry if there is anyone who disagree with me

I almost burst in tears too when she said 'Aku Sayang Mama' as Indonesian myself, we so rarely saying that to our parents, we say 'I miss you' more to replacing the words or just simple ask caring words like 'Are you eat yet?' or 'Don't wory too hard go rest. ' or just act it, like bring them food or cook their favorite, like Dita we might crying lots if we say that haha 😅
or we would just say 'i love you' but in english bcs its easier to say it. "aku sayang mama' hits different tho, even tho both words are meant the same

Yes exactly, when we’re saying to our indonesian parents i miss u, it means a lot like a lottt, it’s lit bit awkward to saying i love u, cuz we’re can’t describe how much our love to our parents🥰
My eyes already teary just to think about saying it. I wish I had the time to saying it before my mom passed away last year, got heart attack in her sleep, too sudden. Now I saying it in whisper, in her grave.

Saya bukan penggemar kpop, saya mengenal Dita baru baru ini, dan munculah video ini di beranda saya..
Dari sini saya memahami bahwa kebanyakan orang indonesia sulit untuk mengungkapkan rasa sayang atau cinta kepada keluarga dengan kata-kata namun bukan berarti tidak sayang atau tidak cinta.
Menurut saya pribadi kata-kata untuk mengungkapkan perasaan sesederhana "aku sayang mama" bagi saya begitu besar beban yang dibawa dalam kata-kata tersebut, karena selain menyampaikan perasaan sayang, juga menyampaikan rasa terimakasih untuk semua yang telah diberikan orangtua kita untuk membesarkan kita dan juga menyampaikan permintaan maaf untuk semua kesalahan yang pernah kita perbuat kepada mereka, oleh karena itu kata-kata ini menjadi begitu sederhana namun menjadi sangat sulit untuk diungkapkan karena besarnya makna yang ada dibalik kata-kata tersebut.
Yang kita lihat disini sebagai contoh adalah Dita, dalam keadaan kangen dan terpisah dengan keluarganya membuat kata-kata tersebut menjadi semakin besar maknanya karena mewakili seluruh rasa yang ingin diungkapkan Dita dan membuatnya menangis, saya juga jadi ikut menangis karenanya.
Bagi saya yang masih tinggal bersama orangtua dan masih belum sedewasa Dita saja begitu berat untuk mengatakan "aku sayang mama", bahkan hanya memikirkanya saja membuat saya ingin menangis, apalagi Dita yang terpisah jarak dengan keluarganya, betapa dirinya adalah wanita kuat.
