Finally!!! An easy explanation and visual presentation on how to recharge purigen. Thank you
I love it when you guys cover filtration topics.
Thanks so much for this very helpful video Tommy! One thing I learned for this was the time aspect when one does the regeneration of the Purigen, especially the neutralisation of the chlorine. Thanks Green Aqua!
That's why I Love you guys: I learned a lot from you, always!
Cheers from Brazil 🇧🇷
Thank you for explaining and doing a demo on how to regenerate and amount to use, really useful,
I tried out Purigen a couple of years ago after watching your recommendations.
It's absolutely one of my favorite products!!
I have researched how to regenerate it before, but I've never done it!!
I have watched several videos on how to regenerate puregen.
Tommy I have to say this is the most detailed and easy to understand descriptions of how to accomplish regenerating this amazing product!!!
I've never seen taking the actual Purigen out of the bag I think this is a great pro tip!!!
Thank you so very much for the video and I hope you and everyone at Green Aqua is having a wonderful and blessed day👍🌿🐟🌿🙏🥰♥️
Thank you so much for this, I'm due to clean my Purigen and will follow your steps. Love the clear explanation, thanks for sharing 👍
Didn't know you had to take it out of the bag, which probably explains why I had so much trouble cleaning it. Thanks for the tip, and I love the format!
Thank you very much for sharing this excellent technique, Tony!
Perfect timing! Was just about to buy this.
That was VERY helpful & answered all of my questions! The 1st video on purigen to do so. Thanks 😁
Perfect timing with this video… I was actually regenerating my purigen bag today 😅
Great video! I use Purigen in one tank. Water is still clear, but it seems to me, there's a slight green tint. For me it's either slight tannin colouring, or Purigen. I knew I should use bleach, I think I got even a short "recipe" from a LFS on that, but this video helps a lot.
amazing tips. i will do soon this process. thanks for sharing legend
Thank you for once again giving us such good advice
Great tip, thanks!
Спасибо что поделились такой информацией. Взяли на заметку 👍
Great vid, thanks for sharing 👍
Very informative video
thank you
Very informative ,Thank you tommy
Very useful information. Thank you. I'm using perigean for the first time and was advised to watch a video on the subject.
Good to know you recommend a higher ratio to product to tank water... I always found the Seachem recommendation to be a bit thin but was afraid to use more, I thought perhaps it could have a negative effect.
Thanks for Guide ❤❤
i legit just did a maintenance and needed to know how to reset purigen just hours ago T.T thank you for reading my mind.
Great video Tommy! My go to for crystal clear water besides purigen and prime is Poly fill and my tanks are crystal clear! Thanks for the tips!
Is "Prime" and "Poly Fill" brand-names for two other filter materials ?? (In Denmark we have a product called "Poly Filla" that we buy in a hardware-store, and use to fill out wholes and cracks in walls).
Great tip and video . Save me lots of money on Purigen . Thank you
Thank you for the video, I bought purigen and I will use it.
Just yesterday I was looking for a good Purigen video and today you post it. Its like you read my mind. Thank you, it will be in the next order from you. I have a JBL e702 filter and a 105 liter aquarium, I think 100ml will be enough. Where is the best place to put purigen in the filter?
Love from India. One of my brother from India, right now present in your gallery, he is also a hobbyist in ornamental fish keeping and he called me all the way from your gallery it's a pleasure to watch your team work. Please send some gift as a take away from your side hahahah# kidding#
But it's really a wonderful experience watching your videos and today it's super special.
This is a great video
Great informative video guys! Yeah ever since I’ve started using purigen like 3 years ago my water is crystal clear! The combo of that and matrix really are unmatched for water clarity! I was nervous the first regeneration of it but I’ve never lost a fish, snail or shrimp!
Purigen not prime
@@6___________99_____________64 😂 that’s what I meant!
That’s pretty much what I was doing it for awhile. Only I was putting purigen in the watered bleach until doing filter maintenance. 😮Didn’t leave it until the purigen is getting too dark, so didn’t take long for this job.
Believe it or not. just today i was thinking about whether i need to buy my Purigen new or if i can regenerate it somehow... thanks for this tutorial!
Thanks, was looking for a good explanation. Does it matter which tray you put it in? I got a Biomaster as well.
Thanks ✌🏽
What will I use in my filter while the purigen is in the regeneration process? Thank you for sharing
Simple explanation & I get it, but I am lazy (or way too busy in my old age)...I'll just use filter floss & call it a day. Thank you.
Great video! Question, what type of glass do you use on your tanks and where can I buy one? is it Low iron glass tanks? Would you say its worth spending the extra money for those$$$? Do you guys plan on making any videos on the type of glass tanks and where to buy them, I can't find many online, im based in America.
hello you always have very interesting videos.
I have a question.
can we use this product if we have an aquarium with a lot of plants? it is said that the product removes nitrates that could not create an imbalance?
Excellent video
I didn't know it took up to 6 months to have to renew the purigen.
A lot of people make a big deal out of it, but you guys are awesome as always.
Bring more videos like this one!
If we fertilize the aquarium with liquid fertilizer, does the purigen absorb this fertilizer?
No
Thank you for the video guys. I’ve a question: can I do the regeneration process even if the Purigen is completely dry?
May know how many times the purigen can be recycled and cleaned? Thanks and have a nice day.
is there any issue if you let it dry after a regeneration with bleech? does it always have to be in water? i read a comment in reddit that says it stops working once you use and then let it dry, which made no sense
thanks for the video tommy, great explanation as always
Nice to know you guys do exactly what i do with purigen 😃 ... even tho my aquarium is no near as good-looking as yours 🤣
hello thanks for the tips! i have a question... I just bought seachem purigen and when I opened the pack... the smell was like vinegar (it was bad for me). Kind of this bad smell is normal in seachem purigen?
In a Biobox internal filter I put the perlon as a pre-filter at the top then the biological blue foam then chemical activated carbon and the clay balls at the bottom. At what level should I put the Purigen for optimal results?
Hello aquascapers. Is It possible overdose aquarium the purigen? Exist can be critical quantity? Thank you
Very Informative is there a limit or can you continue to refresh Purigen, or does diminishing returns set in after awhile?
I been told approximately 7 times then buy new again👍
My tip for my fellow nano tank aquascape fans: buy/use regular tea filters for your nano tank’s hang-on back filters; much cheaper much easier and saves you lots of hassle how to place/use purigen in
I accidentally used scented bleach, should I just toss it out? Could I re-clean it with regular bleach?
Oops I just regenerated my purigen with the seachem bag back in 100% bleach. does that mean I destroyed it? I also let it sit for a couple of days in just water without any prime, and then rinsed it before putting it back in my filter. I did use prime in my aquarium when I turned it back on
Can we clean Purigen with ADA Superge solution with 1:1 ratio
Pontosan milyen fehérítőt használtok? Vagy ez esetleg hypo? Köszi és üdv
太陽光 光解 漂白水
😊
Can i use water conditioners that have slime coat in it? I have read somewhere that using a conditioner with slime coat purigen will be useless and cant be recharged if we recharge it then it will be toxic enough to kill fish!!
Is this true or a hoax plz do clarify
Is there a way to use purigen if I have a sponge filter? I'm a beginner, sorry.
How you clean that brown bag?
Which ppi prefilter sponge do you recommend using in oase canisters? And where in the canister do you place the purigen?
In the penthouse,I feel like the best ppl is the best results in your system. So I have been keeping the original and run it for 5 - 7 days and she spray the stuff out in the shower 👞
My purigen doesnt seem to get back close to its nearly white colour after just 24 hours in the 1:1 bleach and water solution. Has anyone tried a longer soaking period in the water/bleach or should I just not be concerned about the slight brown colouring to the regenerated purigen ?
Replying to my own post.......I decided to try a new brand of bleach and the results were outstanding, very clean purigen after 24 hours of soaking. I was using a supermarket brand of bleach but switched to a name brand and the difference is amazing. So if you have similar issues it might be worth paying a little extra for your bleach.
Can "GA Cleanit" be used as bleach? Does the Purigen get useless if I leave it in the bleach solution lot more than 24h-s (I forgot about it :))?
Hello For 240 liters of water. How many ml should I use?
Seachem safe is the best
Where do you get a purigen bag from as My bag split :/
@greenaqua hi i say purigen's regeneration process on their website and they recommend 4 tablespoon for 1 cup of water and here your recommendations are different.. kind of confused.
so getting two bags of 100ml would be best, 1 for use and 1 to clean and store
I want to ask what is the different between Seachem Purigen and Seachem purfiltrum?
And which is better(?
Thank you!
Seachem developed Aqua Vitro many years ago...the line of products that are only sold by independent retailers to help them compete with the big box chains ?they
There is one thing left behind - with every regeneration cycle, purigen works shorter and shorter period of time.
Just a small doubt to clear up... That's nearly half a day without purigen... Do you run the filter or just keep an air stone in the meantime?
You run the filter! If you stop it for too long the bacteria inside will die. It's not really a big deal to run the filter without purigen (purigen is just a bonus, your tank can be completely nice without it). Now, knowing the green aqua team they do like I do and just buy two sets of purigen bags for each filter so that they don't have to open the filter twice and they have all the time they need to clean the dirty bag.
@@microcox haha, i was gonna say the same.
I do that with filter pipes too, so it goes faster and can be cleaned with calm.
That bleach how many degrees chloride is that ? Here in belgium is it yellow and between 5-15 degrees
That will be fine probably
If i buy 2x100ml purigen bags and rotate each bag. Clean 1 then use the other The one i'm not using do i have to keep it wet or it doesn't matter over time?
Needs to be kept wet once you use it the first time
@@marios.discus Thought so Thanks.
I worry that it will take up my ferts though, will it absorb nitrates?
Will not reduce yourfertilizer levels if you follow the recommendation.
Will purigen remove any fertilizer or nutrients for my plants?
If you follow the recommendation, will not remove anything
Why is there such a difference in ratio/quantity of Prime:Water on the official instructions (4 tablespoons of Prime per 1 cup of water)? Is it just so Seachem can get you to use more of their product? Also, is the buffering step necessary?
The main thing is to remove the chlorine scent. Prime is the best water conditioner out there and you need to use only a little for this task. We only use bleach and prime. Never used the buffering step.
Resin anion or resin kation is same thing with purigen
But wouldn’t it be better to put the fine filter before the bio media? Then there won’t be any debris in the bio media?
Well if you will replace it weekly, then it is fine. Most of us will not do that :)
@@GreenAquaShop ah I see, thank you so much!
Which filter is good for 250 litre tank
An Oase BioMaster 850? Just to give you an example.
Nothing in cheap
You can check other brands with these parameters. Maybe you have another option locally
How many times can the purigen be regenerated?
Ideally, many many times, but I found that it is a process that needs to be done very carefully, so no chlorine gets into the tank water after it. So the answer would be as many times as you can avoid getting your fish poisoned. ;)
I just wanna point out, chlorine =/= bleach. Bleach tends to contain sodium hypochlorite (chlorine) but it always contains other things as well. A lot of bleaches are also dropping chlorine as the active ingredient in favor of hydrogen peroxide. As said on the video, be very sure to read the label.
Thick bleach? I’ve recharged it loads but always stays brown on the bottom, even when stirring it constantly 😢
Not sure how much you used for your aquarium and also how long you kept it running there. We would recommend 100ml Purigen for every 100L aquarium water. And do the cleaning in every 3-4 months. If your filtration performs well and the Purigen gets in contact with clean water it will not be a problem. So it is not a good idea to neglect a filter for example.
purigen can absorb nutrients of plants in the tank
Tks
I've been using Purigen since I decided to ''raise'' the level of my tanks, high tech tanks I mean. It works, but for some reasons sometimes I took out the Purigen and didn't replace it right away and really the difference is almost imperceptible. I think you see the difference when the wood has tannins.
I have purigen, the problem is with the bags.....
As far as I remember, a piece of stockings can serve as well (silon, not cotton) .
Steal a panty from your wifi
For 100 litre of water how many months it will work
Usually we recommend 100 ml for 100 liter and that lasts about 4-6 months before it needs to be regenerated, but that highly depends on what's in your tank. Lots of iron wood will shorten this time frame for example.
@@GreenAquaShop after 6months need to add fresh one??
Nope you only need to regenerate. You can regenerate it like 6-8 times before the replacement
@@GreenAquaShop Nice, then we can use this at least 2years right??
Yup or more 😀👍
I buy it in bulk so I don't need to recharge 😊
Hmm nice video but I feel like the last part is excessive unless someone is in a super hurry(no second backup media bag ready) or has chloramines in their tap water or doesnt know if they have chloramines. I live in Canada and usually the biggest cities or remote locations will have chloramines, just inform yourself, I feel like you have a legal right to know what they put in your water 🤪If just chlorine, instead of wasting Prime and you are poor like me, you can rinse it in tap water, then just put it somewhere with good air circulation and let it dry, preferably not in a closed space as it will evaporate pretty easily within a day or two depending on how often you "fluff" the media to let moisture be trapped in one place. Hope this helps! And...no, don't hang it on the back of your computer fan 🙃
Thanks for the tips!
Dude that method you used to get it out of the bowl at 4:25 looked tedius. Can you no tuse it in the bag? I mean will it not clean it all or something? Why dump it all out where you have to go fishing..
Better to use hydrogen peroxide than hypochlorous acid (bleach). Hydrogen peroxide is significantly better for your health and the environment, and you don't have to deal with residual chlorine.
no matter how many times I 'clean' it with bleach it's still brown...
Oops I did 100% bleach is that a problem?
Will be harder to remove the chlorine. You need more Prime and probably longer soaking period with it. May need to repeat it a few times until the scent goes off.
@@GreenAquaShop thanks for that.
Why not just use carbon?
You can. But you can’t recharge it and it’s a different material entirely, and you can’t see when’s it’s full either. Purigen is more chemically ionically active so manmade circles, it should draw out more colour/tannins but isn’t like carbon relying on baked surface area to absorb.
Oh god. I always gave up 😂
Those purigen bags are expensive as f_ck. Does anyone know a cheaper solution? I tried with peace of stockings but did not work well...
Still smells just buy new
Seachem says purigen will not affect pH. Not true. Use your pH test kit and you will see that purigen will lower your pH. Why the lies?
It will not affect in aquariums on that level that it would hurt anything. If you’re worried about it i would focus on other things like soil, water treatments, filter media etc
Don't bother-just buy a new pack.
Most people do. :)
Great explanation but I'll just buy more.
