Listen to Jack! There is no finer musician. The fact that he hears An Orchestra Sound in the Drum Set is spot on. The American Drumset is a very unique instrument that can deliver the conglomerate soprano, alto, tenor and bass voices across the spectrum. Love Jack, he's one of a kind! And Rest in Peace Dom.

I'm not a drummer, or even a musician, but Jack has been been on my personal Mt Rushmore for almost 50 years. And hearing him say that he was seeking to be "liquid" in his playing expresses perfectly the feel/sound that I love so much. My mental impression of Jack's playing has always been of water flowing in a fast moving brook - running over stones and bouncing this way and that. Always "liquid" as he says, though I never thought of that term.
I owe Jack a huge debt for how he enriched my life.

I was fortunate to have my head put in the right place by this brilliant man at one of his performances years ago. We were talking about music and I mentioned that I was considering quitting playing. My favorite drummer and one the most inspiring musicians I have ever heard looked me square in the eyes and dispassionatelysaid “ if you can-you should” like the guru on the top of the mountain he immediately put my life back in order and I realized the absurdity of my comment.

Jack is a humble beast of a musician! He plays his music as he speaks... eloquently understated, but deeply profound, and full of true insight. This is what mastery looks and sound like.
And, of course, Dom’s excellent interviewing skills and level of enthusiasm is masterful in and of itself. 👍👍

Great description man. Jack has it all, his style is unreal. I was always torn between Elvin and Tony Williams but Jack has Tonys "wildness" and Elvins propulsion. Another great drummer that combines that explosive wildness and propulsion is Joe Chambers. great Blue Note "house" drummer in the mid '60s who doesn't get enough credit. Great Composer and Vibe player as well.

Jack’s playing on Jaco Pastorius’ Word Of Mouth record was just breathtaking. It was a trio recording session at Power Station with Herbie Hancock and Jaco that got the ball rolling on WOM. I’ll never forget putting the multitracks on for the first time when Jaco returned home. Liberty City, Waltz (3 Views), and Crisis were some of the most exciting music I had heard in years. WOM was released eight exhilarating months later and in all that time Jack’s drumming remained as fresh as the first time we heard it. He is a master of his craft.
