@@Inexteriors hi I was trying to fix mine and I need to know will this method work for me
@@alexisjones8379 It depends how bad yours is.
i sent you some pictures on your facebook messenger
@@alexisjones8379 I could not find them, you can email them to blasteven300@gmail.com if you want.
Thanks mate
No probs, thanks for watching.
Great vid! I fear my window is too far gone. The whole lower half is completely rotten. Not sure what I can do to fix it 🥲
Thankyou Very much. Maybe replace it If it is to far gone. Hope you get it sorted..
Brilliant video Steven and just what I needed today as I noticed water on my window cill and this is caused by the corner of my window frame rotting away. I'm going to repair it following your video. Quick question though, can you recommend the primer and second coat paint you used? I'm also tempted to strip away all the paint and repaint the entire frame, belt and braces if you like which would also give me an opportunity to check the rest of the frame over. Many thanks
Hi.Thankyou for watching, i used Leyland trade primer undercoat for spot priming, then i used Johnston's trade oil based undercoat and gloss.
You refer to 2-part filler, but the image at 0' 40" seems to show 1-part and the link seems to be to standard 1-part filler. Am I missing something?
the link is ronseal 2 pack filler
Many thanks used your method above as it gave me the confidence to have a go, one question though in the video above the two pack filler is very loose and easy to apply, I have followed your mixing video and the tin instructions and in both instances, the filler is way thicker than the above video, in today's temperature I am having to use less hardener to give me chance to make it usable, but is still difficult to actually fill with, is there something I need to do to get it as loose as you have it in the video.
To be honest, the filler was going of quickly with me the other day in the heat, try and fill when it is a bit cooler. also just mix a manageable bit at a time.
@@Inexteriors Much appreciated, yeah I found out how fast it goes off in the current heat, had to dramatically reduce the amount of hardener to stand a chance of doing anything
Great video. Have you any examples of the same but on a a Marvin type aluclad sash?
No sorry.
Does this also work for forcefully ripped out chunks of wood on the frame?
probably, and it wont be rotten, keep me updated with what you end up doing.
@@Inexteriorsokay thanks!
great video. would you use this method or plastic wood filler for a rotten velux frame
depending were it was rotten.
My old upstairs landing window non opening has been leaking at the bottom after heavy rain.
Scraped away rotting wood at the edge of glass 5mm width , 10mm.deep, what best to fill with?
Same process as video.
Groovy
Thankyou Very much.
after removing the rotten wood, what solution did you use before filling the hole, and is it mandatory?😮
Wood hardner, yes it is mandatory,
get yourself a sanding block, that way you sand flush without waves. Anyway, nice video
Thankyou very much.
Good tip. The light loves to show you any waves every time you walk past a repaired frame!
What did you apply on the window trim by using the brush? Wood hardener?
Yes, it was wood hardener.
Can you apply the hardner in the winter when it's cold or raining or should I wait for warm dry day ???????
Wait for a dry day, and wait for wood to be dry not wet. Its not a winter job.
@@Inexteriors OK thanx pal I've got an old conservatory an Sill's have gone so I wanna treat behind them before I replace them so I'll save your video ( which was very helpful ) until we get a few dry days 👍 thanx for the feedback
@@ste9430 No probs at all, let me know how it goes.
So what happens if you can't keep the base section as that has all rotted away
Maybe get a joiner to have a look.
Never repaired a window frame in my life, but I'm about to. A very useful video, thanks, Steven. 🇦🇺🦘
Thanks for watching. Let me know how you get on.
What did you use to fill that window?
@Dineth Wijewardhana . Ronseal 2 part filler. There is a link in the description bud.
Ahh cheers dude
What is white prime pint called?
Then you put gloss on ?
So thats two lots of different paint yeah??
Prime & Gloss ??
I walked round B&Q and couldn’t see anything with “prime” on it? Just matt and gloss ??
It was leyland primer undercoat, you can get it in b&q. on this i used the primer undercoat, then a oil based undercoat and gloss.
@@Inexteriors bloody ell THREE tins of paint??? Gunna cost a fortune! 😝
Nice one mate 👍🏻
@@DeeTeaDee You can use the primer undercoat, just give it 2 or 3 coats.
@@Inexteriors oh so
Primer undercoat & gloss
Just two tins but 2 coats of undercoat followed by 1 coat of gloss yeah?
@@DeeTeaDee Yes, if its new wood maybe give it 3 primer undercoats.
What's the filling material??
Ronseal 2 part filler.
Ok, now how bout a video where that bit of the frame is cracked and breaks. Can you replace that piece of wood, or does the whole window need replacing?
probably need a joiner to look at lol.
@@Inexteriors dang it. I had a feeling it was gonna require something I didn’t have. There’s no shot they sell replacement pieces, and it’s a “historical” house so we can’t switch to vinyl. Oh well, thanks for replying
@@KelticTim No probs at all.
What would I do if the wood around the window was rotten and wanted to remove and re do
Kt hatch . Hi, i am not to sure without seeing it.
Use a sanding block to get a straight edge
I have never owned one to be honest.
Please feel free to leave a comment.
My window is horizontally rotten and it doesn't have something to hold the creamy stuff as it is rotten in every side.how can I repair it?
@@dipeshpoudel1092 I would need to see a picture of it, Try and find me on facebook under Steven Blake, them you can send me a pic in messenger.
