Saints D was Patroling the Dome against Warner in the Cards last night. I was a proud Saints fan knowing we had a D and a O that showed up to the Post Season
I remember this defense. Not only were these the best linebackers in NFL history but some sportswriters have even said that this defense is the best in NFL history, even better than the Rams' Fearsome Foursome, the Vikings' Purple People Eaters, the Steelers' Steel Curtain or even the Bears' 3-4 Defense of 1985.. Can anyone imagine this defense on a Saints team with Drew Brees? We would be unstoppable! This is what the Saints need to do now; rebuild the defense and start with the linebackers.
@@brettreason484 Bears had the 46 defense..plus enough offense to make it work. Bobby Hebert had nothing...Brees used to get tore apart by the 46. That's considered to be an illegal defense now because it destroys the offensive line. Bobby Hebert got a few wins all by himself
Man oh man I miss these days with that defense!!! No offense to any other linebacking corp. but Vaughan Johnson, Sam Mills(R.I.P.), Ricky Jackson and Pat Swilling was, in my opinion, the greatest set of "backers" ever!! I know the Steelers, Bears and Giants had great linebackers but as a group the Saints had the best(maybe it's cause I'm biased in my opinion being a life long fan of the Black and Gold) LOL!!!! All the other members of that D fed off of the "Dome Patrol" and it was fun to watch!!!! I loved to watch a running back try the middle and stop dead in his tracks or bounce back like he hit a brick wall 💪🏻💪🏻 great days indeed!!! #️⃣5️⃣1️⃣⚜️ #️⃣5️⃣3️⃣⚜️ #️⃣5️⃣6️⃣⚜️and #️⃣5️⃣7️⃣⚜️ thanks for the great memories!!!! 👍🏻👍🏻⚜️⚜️🏈🏈 One more thing the numbers 51, 53, 56, and 57 should be retired by the Saints organization!!!
Can you imagine how many SuperBowls would have been won with this defense and the offense today under Drew! I consider the Steelers of the 70's the best team of all time. We would have been right there with them. Damn....coulda, woulda, shoulda.
I wish the current Saints team would start wearing those 1987 throwback uniforms. They are the best uniforms right next to the old powder blues of the San Diego Chargers.
Absolutely. I remember this game. This was one of the most feared defenses of all time, dude. Problem was the Saints had almost no national TV exposure back then.
The 2011 Drew Brees with 46 Touchdowns, 14 Intercepts, 71% Completion, 5,476 Yards with a QB Passer Rating at 110.6 [111] With The 1986-1993 Saints, Specifically the 1992 New Orleans Saints team who lead the league with 57 Sacks, number 2 overall in Defense [255yds], Number 1 against the Pass [154yds], Number 7 Against the Rush [100yds], Number 1 Against The Receivers [178yds], Number 1 in Opponent Points [202 Total] Number 1 in Opp PPG [13] ------ {Continuing 1/2}
By the way, if the 1992 Saints won 12 games with Bobby Hebert, realistically, The Saints not only would have gone 1609 in the Regular Season but 19-0 to finish the Season and capture that Lombardi Hardware.
Can you imagine this defense playing with today's Saints offense? That would be 19 easy wins per year, not enough space in the trophy case for all the Lombardis.
@waooohhhh Yeah, I had the same experience right after he won the ring with the 49ers in a restaurant in New Orleans. He showed me his ring and I joked, "I can't believe you sold out man" and he said, "You gotta do what you gotta do bra."
Man, there was no better 'D' in the NFL back then. None. The Eagles like to think they were, but they weren't. If Carl Smith's offense wasn't so conservative and would have opened it up a little bit, those late 80's teams could have been special. They had decent talent on offense too, but they knew that defense and the kicking game with Morten Andersen was so good that they literally only tried to score 10-13 pts and they'd win. Hence the ultra conservative game plan.
Was that Marcus Allen they were throwing around like a rag doll!? Gosh I miss that defense they use to scare the living shit out of quarterbacks and running backs
Its not that they didnt have talent, they had that, it was the fact that everybody flew to the ball which scared players and made them shutdow. You cant treach intensity and the want to hit. Your born with it
We get 7 turnovers against the eagles and put up 13 points that's the story of this defense Mora was to conservative in play calling he played for field goals
This Saints defense + Drew Brees' Offence + Sean Payton - O god that would be a great saints team
Nobody can deny it. The most talented black and gold defensive unit that ever played in the Superdome. They kicked ass.
td4lyfe the most powerful defensive unit in the nfl
Pat Swilling was awesome!! When he cam eto my Raiders I was over the moon. That dude was so good. He was constantly near the QB

You wonder why they never brought the 3-4 defense back with their heritage.
5 years later the Saints did just that.....too bad Drew's no longer there
@@brettreason484 Bears had the 46 defense..plus enough offense to make it work. Bobby Hebert had nothing...Brees used to get tore apart by the 46. That's considered to be an illegal defense now because it destroys the offensive line. Bobby Hebert got a few wins all by himself
4-6 Defense...not the 3-4
@@netrioter You're right. My bad!

rickey jackson is finally in the hall of fame!
damn like a pack of wolves the way they swarm to the ball. I wonder if the Saints LB coach shows these videos to our current linebackers
Best group of LB's ever assembled...
Rip sam mills#51

Jesus, they we're so damn physical. I miss those ball hawking, hard hitting days!
This was bounty gate before bounty gate. If only Drew had this defense he would have 5 rings by now. I remember watching these game when I was kid
Those were some REAL defenses. Saints had the greatest collection of LB'S ever. DOME PATROL .. R.IP. Sam Mills and Vaughn Johnson.
They have forever ruined me, That is the standard for which I judge all Linebacker corps.
this was the best saints defense ever, i watched them every sunday. they were deadly. who dat say we superbowl champs!
Best LB Corps in the history of the NFL...
I met Rickey in person and got his autograph actually, he's a really nice person and extremely humble. go saints
Absolutely. I remember this game. This was one of the most feared defenses of all time, dude. Problem was the Saints had almost no national TV exposure back then.
City Champ by brother one of the grestest......Brenda
my cousin will always be the Greatest to me!!!! MY hero
LOL
Check these stats... Rickey Jackson: 128 career sacks, 40 forced fumbles (yes, 40!) Lawrence Taylor: 132 sacks, 0 forced fumbles... Crazy.
argueably one of the best linebacking cores ever

oh yeah,superbowl 2009!
One of the best defense's to play the game !
Who - Dat !
If only Rob Ryan had this kind of defense today..... but I am pumped for this season, can not wait until September!
Why?Then we'll have to go back to school.
@ChrisDeMarinis1 Sam Mills should be in the Hall of Fame too.
The best corp of linebackers EVER!
Best linebackers in the history of the NFL!
i could just imagine eye of the tiger playing during the vid.
Im from New Orleans and i love the saints WHO DAT!
It was actually voted THE best group of linebackers of all time.
Imagine if the 2009 Drew Brees had the Dome Patrol for its Defense
Brees hand would be littered with rings
literally get chills while watchin' these catz, what a defense
All four in probowl same year you will never see that again
All that talent and fans still wore bags over there heads.
If Mora's defense could play with Payton's offense, the Saints would go undefeated for a decade.
I cant believe we didnt win a superbowl with this roster.
This year may look similar to dat. Not just LBs, but as a defensive unit. Mark my words!! Who Dat!
Turnell Carey damn.
Best LB's ever.. Dome Patrol..
Much Love For The Dome Patrol!! Love FOr Jim Moras Saints!! Shame They Werent Around For Drew Brees...
Roger Craig "Man who ever hit me, it hurt", He was referring to Vaughn Johnson
I saw him put someone in the hospital when he went to Philly
great work on this vid, you made the saints look awesome, very hard to do
OLB Rickey Jackson-6 Pro Bowls HOF
OLB Pat Swilling- 5 Pro Bowls, 1991 DPOY
MLB Sam Mills- 5 Pro Bowls
MLB Vaughn Johnson- 2 Pro Bowls

somebody tweet this video to members of the saints defense before the season starts lol

Too bad we didn't have an OFFENSE to go with it back then. Boy I remember those days. Seems like an eternity ago now
now that the Saints have won the superbowl, Rickey Jackson has made the hall and Sam Mills will follow shortly
With the Saints switching back to a 3-4 they are going to have to live up to this great group.
Masters of Destuction
nice,2009 defense will stand out!
If only we could get this type of defense back for the Saints...! They would be literally unbeatable!
2009 defense is gonna be like this i feel
rip Sam mills
Ricky Jackson one of the best check out his interview
awesome video. thx.
How are they forgotten? It seems baffling to me. AMAZING.
This defense + Drew Brees would have won multiple super bowls. This is not an exaggeration
#57 RICKEY HENDERSON! HALL OF FAMER NOW!
if we had had ouroffese like we have today we wuld have won like 3-4 superbowls seriousy

They were pretty sick, who do you have Hilliard and a decent WR? Those LBs were amazing. Eagles!
wow, giants had no O line back then either
now, defensivecoordintors want no part of they electrifying offense!!!
WHO DAT!!!
Show this to the 2018 LB corp. Lets get this violence back. WHODAT
To think what this team could've achieved with a slightly better offense back then.
look how young Moses was lol
Lol Moses was only about 563 right there
Beasts.
@golfcartpro it's Jackson man
Was that Marcus Allen they were throwing around like a rag doll!? Gosh I miss that defense they use to scare the living shit out of quarterbacks and running backs
Yes it was.
@XxLuckyShotz95 Strangely enough, I think our defense maybe better than our offense for the first time since Payton came here
These days are over my friend. You have to ask permission now to hit someone. NFL- the national footsie league as of this week.
@golfcartpro its rickey jackson.
Awesome defense all around, but I'd take our current secondary over the guys we had then. Gene Atkins was the only bright spot.
New Orleans 4 Life
@jj8771 All 4 LBs from the Saints in 1991 were all voted in the pro bowl
or if we could have had an offense like ours today back then.....
Db's getting stops
Typo I meant to say 16-0, not 1609.
actually we have a strong rivalry with them >;)
Its not that they didnt have talent, they had that, it was the fact that everybody flew to the ball which scared players and made them shutdow. You cant treach intensity and the want to hit. Your born with it
if the dome patrol would hit Romo he would quite
quite?
They could've been the best if they had some help (a good D-lineman or two).
Imagine this defense with drew Bree’s at q.b they would 10 suberbowl wins back to back
Whats the name of the first song?
Its great
Hell yes!!
Can anyone give me a track listing for this the music is terrific
@cuttywith22 He is now.
Offense had to score about 13 points and we'd win
Sam Mills or PAt Swilling should have gotten in before Ricky Jackson.
jfliguy STUPID
We get 7 turnovers against the eagles and put up 13 points that's the story of this defense Mora was to conservative in play calling he played for field goals
offense* would*
Mills,Jackson,Johnson, Swilling - the DOME PATROL MOTHA FUCKA! badest line backer Corp to EVER play the game. Who Dat?
i got a question, when this linebacking corps. was still in tact, did they play a 3-4 or 4-3 defense?
3 4
