    Excellent clip! Here's my favourite Italian car chase : the police chasing the Stratos in Napoli spara! Not so much on the technical side, but the idea of a little rascal driving off in a Stratos just made me crack... a hilarious scene with tongue-in-cheek humor.

    I love seeing these strange (not to you) little european van's from all of the different manufacturers - I find them both bizarre and charming and individually unique - that being said, here's a few of my favorite car chases : almost any James Bond movie, Bullit (of course), The Getaway (first version), The Seven Ups, The French Connection, Against All Odds (308 vs 911) The Blues Brothers (held the record for most vehicles destroyed on a single movie), Vanishing Point (early 70's counter culture classic Mopar tribute) Gumball Rally (Raoul Julia was perfect) and Ronin (off season F1 drivers doing the stunts) - another great post, my friend!

    In the 1968 film Roma come Chicago there aren't many cool car chases but great shots of alfa 2600 police cars . At the end you also see the Ferrari 250 GTE as driven by Armandino Spatafora . Fantastic idea for a video. For me the best car chase moment is in "Poliziotto Sprint" when the brown Citroën DS going in reverse is chased by a score of Giulias, and suddenly in a blink of an eye, in the space of a milisecond, it turns around 180° GLUED ON THE GROUND and starts speeding forward. How the hell did they manage this with a car that has column shift and no handbrake? Incredible.

    • @Matteo_Licata
      @Matteo_Licata  Před 2 lety

      Thank you! That 180° reverse turn is relatively easy to do, actually, I've tried it myself using a big empty parking lot. You don't need the handbrake (which on the DS is operated by a lever under the dash and locks the front wheels) at all. Reverse at full speed, then steer abruptly while stepping completely off the gas: the large, sudden weight transfer from front to back is what makes the car turn so sharply on itself.

The other one must be the chase in "Goldeneye" when James Bond are chasing Colonel Ourumov's Volga with a tank. Don't know if the last one is classified as a "car chase" though.

    Ha! Italian film is a huge gap in my cultural life.
    I know a few Italian films, but none of your choices.
    A film that did come to the UK in the 90s was "La Scorta". Plenty of car scenes, but few chases. Nice cars, though.... Nice cars of the time.
    I do recall also a wonderful 60s film about a group of bullion robbers evading the police in Turin... But I do not think it was actually an Italian film. The actors were mostly British, as were many of the cars. The cars I recall best were driven by a group of concerned Italian businessmen (led by Raf Vallone) who tried to prevent the robbery. They had a beautiful convoy of Fiat Dino coupés. Stunning. If there were an Oscar for car scenes, a line of black Dino coupés should win it.
    As to a Ferrari being held at bay by a DS..... I recall from my troubled youth that on the public highway a quite modest car can match or even exceed the speed of a powerful one. Once you add junctions and traffic signals and traffic, the advantages of the race track are largely lost.
    Lovely video. Lovely cars. I am a sucker for the 130 Coupé.
    I haven't seen one on the wild for decades, bit it is nice to get a glimpse on CZcams.

    Ha Ha got you there, I can recommend this film to everybody, it is full of action and it is very cruel in some parts : (1973) La Polizia incrimina, la legge assolve. (I don't even know what it means)
    It plays in Genua and 9 years ago when I bought my Renault R8S in Italy near Aquapendiente I first had to go to Genua because there was a ship that needed some supplies and repairs from our company, it struck me that I recognized still a lot of places where the film was shot, this is one of the films that made a great impression on me, I sometimes look up the car chase which is also done by Remy Julienne and his French team. If I remember well, there was a blue FIAT 125 driven by the mafiosi and they kill the daughter of the police inspector by running her down with that FIAT, the shot is great, you see a close up of one wheel of the FIAT and the shining hubcap, the girl's face, playing innocently and all of a sudden the wheel of the FIAT spins like hell and they run her down, killing that little girl, I still get goose bumps from that scene !
    This film was released in the Godfather era and it does bear some resemblance with the Godfather, it is equally cruel sometimes. And the music is great !
    Here's the car chase from that film : czcams.com/video/W7CM_GcJ2FM/video.htmlr,

    Il Cacciatore (TV series), for the prosecutor's 2000 spider, and the 33s and 75s used by the Sicilian police.
    Romanzo Criminale (TV series) - if only for Dandy's Fulvia HF.
    Il Divo(movie) - govt officials getting round in Alfa 164s.
    The Mafia Only Kills in Summer (TV series) - Alfetta sedan driven by the kids "iffy" uncle. The movie also has great cars.
    Traitor (movie) - 33s and 75s in abundance.

    Altough more relaxed-physics-oriented, there's couple of fun parts in Italian-French »I gendarmi di Saint-Tropez«-»Le Gendarme (de Saint-Tropez)« films series with Louis De Funès, but primarily I appreciate that franchise for lot od beatiful and legendary cars involved. What a great idea! More please! Close to your examples are the many great scenes from the original version of The Italian Job. Did they really thrash a Miura? And what about those Jaguar E-types? Obviously my favorite scenes tend to contain Citroen DS's, although it always pains me when one actually gets thrashed. As an example of an actually Italian movie I'd like to point out Diabolik (again with some jummy E-types included). Furthermore: Who could ever forget what Louis de Funes did to cars in french movies, again including many a DS. Then there are all those 60ties, mostly equally cheap and cheerful, Europsy movies. Let's also not forget the De Gaule assassination attempt scene from the original Day Of The Jackal. I could go on for hours but if I have to point out only one scene it however has to be the chase in Ronin, in which an XM outpaces several cars, among them a whole pack of supposedly superior German ones. Am I too much of a fan or is that XM really behaving much more stable then the rest? :-)

In continental Europe 50's and 60's were in the rythm of VW Transporter boxer ramble. Slow as hell, no heating, impractical with engine in back. Also there were minor things like Alfa Romeo Romeo, interesting but unsuccesful. When Ford decided to merge its UK market with the rest of Europe, suddenly british built Transits were everywhere and they were really good. So good in fact, that it took VW till 1990 to finally make good enough van to cope with them.

The then-British Leyland, with characteristic charm and acumen, insisted the makers paid for the cars they used. But the producers felt the Mini was essential to the movie and reluctantly turned Agnelli down - and helped make the Mini a style icon. Agnelli, however, was still very helpful and - as Turin's most famous citizen before Giorgio Armani arrived - helped smooth the way for location filming and made sure Fiats were in almost every shot!

      I wouldn't go as far as calling Agnelli a genius, but he indeed was very helpful with the production: without his support, they wouldn't have had access to the Lingotto's roof and they wouldn't have been able to shoot the jump scene between two buildings, as that was shot in the Mirafiori factory area, dressed-up to look like an urban street :)

    Why did italian commercial vehicles have a red diagonal stripe over the radiator/ front?

    • @Matteo_Licata
      @Matteo_Licata  Před 2 lety +1

      That has to do with Italian legislation. That red stripe identified the van as a vehicle used to transport stuff relative to the owner's business i.e. not transporting stuff on someone else's behalf.

    Here's the car chase from that film : czcams.com/video/W7CM_GcJ2FM/video.htmlr,

      la@@Matteo_Licata I was checking Autoscout for a Renault 4, oneof my first cars when I saw a familiar dashboard : the Renault 8S, the seller lived near Acquapendente a beautiful place and for work (marine safety world) I had to go to Genova anyway, so we took the truck with trailer and drove down there and I bought the car for a price which could not be true ! The car is original paint and 4 headlights it belonged to an old man who bought it new when in his seventies.
      Is is still on italian plates, I love the licence plate Roma H74787 and the dealer sticker from Roma. The car's name is Augusto after its original owner It is not a real mint car as it lived in Rome but it is 100% original! Can send you pictures if you want.
