When the Darkness comes is a free walking simulator whose glitchy and dark tale tries to illustrate the hardships of depression and anxiety through a variety of imaginary digital landscapes.
Taking around an hour on the first run, "When The Darkness Comes" feels like you’re wandering around a glitchy hard drive full of abstract dreams and beautiful nightmares. The narrator initially makes it feel like a comedic game, but it soon starts to take a darker tone as you travel down the bizarre broken rabbit hole that explores the darkest themes of the human mind.

I had recently played the game because a friend told me that it fit my life style (because of the dark themes of former/current anxiety and depression), and all I can say is that this game is an absolute gift. It's well made, the controls are nice, and the art is stunning. The meaning could range from how he creater feels, to how the game is meant to be relatable to a certain group of people. I enjoyed playing this, and I left a rather recommending review on Steam. It's a shame that (Steam) doesn't think it's a real game

I remember playing this game and... wow. It was just completely outstanding seeing all of these psychological movements that try to manipulate you. I was tempted, but I pushed forward. Playing this game. I don't even know if I would call it a game actually, it's more of a experience and it's very unique. I personally think this has inspired me since I suffer from depression to keep moving on. I absolutely the work. Nicely done, Sirhaian.

I recently came across this game and I am really glad to try it out, though you suggested otherwise.
In the first arc I enjoyed playing the game, but I noticed nothing unusual. In the second arc altough, I realized something. Over ten years ago I started to work at my psychological issues. I had many depressions and for the first six to seven years it felt allways the same, nothing seemed to change at all, because hoplessnes was too big. Nothing in my mind was able to see enough positive things to face my fears and leave them behind, even with professional help.
But then, after leaving my parents house, moving a good distance away and living with my sister, who informed herself how to break through to people with psychological difficulties, I was able to see progress. Very little and as thin as a soft touch of the wind, but it was there. Since then I feel like repeating, similar to the game, in circles, but on different stages. In every circle something had, and still has, changed, it always will. Every circle gives the next one more sense. Many messages throughout the game, are very familiar to me.
At this point, shout out to all other people, who think there is no hope to ease their pain: Hope will come to you, if you just keep moving on. It is possible to do so, even without positive reasons.
And if my sister should read this: I love you so much for giving me my second chance

Just wanted to say thank you so much for creating this. I originally only started playing for the achievements (which I soon found out don't count to my steam achievements anyway) and nearly quit because of this, but thankfully continued on and completed it. The true ending moved me so much, and as someone who suffers from both anxiety and depression, its motivated me and I feel like it's given me a new meaning, as cliche as that sounds. Like I said, thank you so much for creating this, it's positively impacted me so much and I left a glowing review on steam 💜

It looks like a great game, you should definitely at least charge a small price for this.
Yeah, I thought about it, but I have a few reasons why not. :)
The first one is that I don't want to "limit" the availability of this experience, as I have hopes it might help some people.
Secondly, I could only obtain the piano music under the condition that the game remains free (donations were good). Thirdly, making a paid game whole working for a game company can cause some conflicts of interest, so I'd like to avoid that. And finally, I'd like to avoid complicating my taxes even further. :')

This is the game that made me feel the most emotional ... everything in this game has a meaning and i love it. It looks so simple but have so many secrets. This game just let me think more about live and i think thats great. You really could feel the depression in the game and it made you understand things better. This is the best free game, possible best horror game, and one of the best games in general that I have ever played. I just really loved it, it was so meaningful and I have anxiety sometimes myself, it was just such a good game and representation of depression and anxiety... honestly I love this game and I think it’s so cool that you made this ..

When I played this today, I found it absolutely beautiful. My friend that has anxiety watched me play this, and they said it portrayed it really well. I found this game very helpful to understand her a bit more, and I found the true ending absolutely beautiful. Where it shows that there is always a light at the end. Im very curious on what made you make this game, and your past experiences. But thank you for making this game. It's absolutely stunning, and the game is absolutely beautiful and well made.

If this ever comes to mobile, like on low graphic settings, I think there would be a lot of players.. I played it on my pc, and I loved the game, it is one of my favorite games that I have ever played, it was so meaningful and I just loved every part of it (except for when it dipped in FPS and started skipping because my GPU drivers were corrupt)

It really is a good game. After playing it twice I can safely recommend it to anyone, because as it stands it truly is a beautiful experience which leaves you thinking.

Hey I was looking in the game files and I noticed two files, one called fear.t, the other called despair.t, they are the exact same. All they say is ÿØÿà what does this mean?
this looks inspired by stanley parable and some game that i dont remember its name... well because its name was something like: "choose the game's name" i dont remember the exact wording. this really reminded me of it. cant wait owo.

Hi Sirhaian! You might never see this comment, it depends, but even if you do, I just want to let you know how this game has reached me a whole lot. :’)
Basically, your game was constantly popping in my recommendation, and I was starting to get confused because I thought it was a random music video or whatever, but I’m glad that I have decided to finally click on it and find out about this complete masterpiece.
As a person, who’s struggling with anxiety and social anxiety for 3 and a half years now and not really anyone here to help or understand, this game has touched me to the point I’ve literally cried at the end. Everything and the effort you had put in was relatable, and I was and still am so glad to know someone knows how tough it is to start a day with such issues going in their head, and decided to put their best to make a whole experience about it.
The jumpscares did spook me a lot and the game itself made me uncomfortable at times when I first watched it, but I’ve gotten comfortable to them because I see them as important and small details.
It may not be as relatable as it is to me to some other people, but I wanted to just let you know how appreciated this game is and you are. Thank you so much.

At the beginning of the game, I kept thinking about ‘how to save this cinnamon roll?’, ‘should I just stay in the room or stare at the camera for eternity? (Which I did for like 3 minutes)’
But what I got from the game is that you can’t just pull someone out of their problems by just staying there. It’s not that simple.
Also, I feel like I can understand that guy for some reason? idk how to type out how I feel about this experience, it’s complicated🙈
The poem with the lights at the true end is amazing
One thing is, it kept calling me ‘User’ for some reason. I checked my computer name, it’s really my name, not default ‘User’, but that’s not important anyway
