  • Undervolting really seems to be the best option in terms of GPU optimization for the RTX 4000 series. Be it a 4090, 4080, 4070 Ti or even a 4060 Ti, I’d still recommend doing it. If you do it properly, you’re gonna lose virtually 0 performance or even get an increase, while dramatically reducing heat and power consumption. Today we are featuring a Gigabyte RTX 4070Ti Gigabyte AERO White triple fan and using an 1200W 80 Plus Platinum iTek PF1200 PSU!

    It works very well for my system. I have exact the same card and under 3D Benchmark Stresstest the system ist 20 degree cooler under pressure. Before it was about 75 degree now 52 degree. The Benchmark values are 3000 lower after undervolting but the game performance is still the same (FPS dont change). Thank you for this work, well done!

      it runs cooler because obviously you are changing your core clock frequency to run at 2550..so obviously it will use lesser power thus lower temps? Might as well u dont buy a 4070ti and just use a 4070? Since the logic here is to lower the cuda core frequency. Correct me if i am wrong

    • @VladK-1
      @VladK-1 Před rokem +2

      @@jamesmadison3108 it's not so much about the frequency but rather about the voltage. Simple frequency reduction will not lower the power consumption (and so the heat emission) as much. Besides, you don't need to stop at 2550 MHz at 950 mV, it's just the starting point. In my case (an INNO3D 4070 Ti X3 OC) I've got stable 2650 MHz at 950 mV and even better 2600 MHz at 900 mV-the clock speed is just a bit lower but voltage difference is actually huge (it doesn't scale linearly). In the result I got minus 40% power consumption at the cost of 2-5% FPS loss depending on the game compared to the stock settings (which is boosting to 2750 MHz and 1070 mV). But in some games and tests the FPS got even better as the GPU is no longer throttling so it sustain higher clock speed and of course runs colder.

Basically i followed this guy's video but change his freq from 2550 to 2600 instead and it worked fine. Yea i do see the wattage is much lesser. running csgo for an hour, i can see my wattage use around 90w. previously it was about 150 to 180w if i not wrong. From test data I've seen around the web, that is not the correct/best/most efficient way to undervolt. Instead of subtracting then raising a point, you should add then decrease. For example: in Afterburner, if you want 2760@950 you should look at what your stock frequency is at 950. Let's just assume it's 2520. So you'd subtract 2520 from 2760, you get 240. Increase your core clock by 240, then you highlight all the graph points past 950, and drag them down, then click apply. They'll all snap to 2760.

    • @ImWateringPSUs
      @ImWateringPSUs  Před rokem +11

      That will increase the effective core clock, but it will unfortunately overclock the lower part of the curve, possibly causing instability. Most RTX 4000 cards will not encounter instability though, so you can do that. I actually do recommend this for better binned cards like the RTX 4090 and if you have the 5 minutes to watch my RTX 4090 undervolting tutorial I actually go in depth about this!

    • @bobalazsgaming
      @bobalazsgaming Před 19 dny

      That's bs. Reduce all by 300 and increase by 200. Because this way no clock drops.

    i think this is good if you're only using it for gaming but I mainly use my GPU for Topaz Video AI and Gigapixel. After doing this I noticed artifacting in the 2 videos i processed, but when i returned it to what i originally had the artifacting was gone. I'm not sure if this is due to the memory overclocking or the undervolting. I think it might be the memory overclocking. Also there was absolutely no change in power draw. i also have a power meter attached to my PC and while undervolted I was drawing around 285W, when i had it on my original overclock that Afterburner auto applied I also was getting around 285W. i think some people are getting the placebo effect, they think they are drawing less power but actually aren't. I'm not saying this doesn't work at all, Im just saying every single GPU is different and this undervolt isn't going to work on every single 4070 ti.

    Sounds like you guys bought the wrong 4070Ti or have case airflow restrictions, mine rarely hits 60°C (core) and the hotspot is 8-12•C hotter, that's on a "hot" UK day up to 30°C, and I don't think I've ever heard it in normal use. MSI's 4070TI Gaming X Trio has a great cooling solution. The last three GPU's I've had experience of are MSI's 2070 Gaming Z & 2080 Duke, both of those also had class leading cooling solutions, and continue to perform as new. I'm still using an old case design, Corsair Carbide 540 Air without air filter and with 5 Noctua case fans (had to use slim front fans mounted on the outside of their mounting point in order to squeeze the 4070Ti in) So if you have the same card and it's running hot then I'd suggest your issue is airflow related.

    I tried 2600MHz @ 0.9V. It seems the freq bin is 15MHz so I can either bump to 2595 or 2610MHz. The later caused crash in cyberpunk 2077 and the lower one crashed in jedi survivor (a heavy loader). So I settled with 2700MHz @ 950mV. ~0-3% less fps but 33% power reduction. Fan was 1320rpm rather than 1930rpm stock. Temp went from 77C to 61C. Very small hit on performance is worth the silence and power saving I reckon. This galax 4070ti ST card has annoying fan noise when under full load especially when it is on the steep curve to 100%. Yes it is not hitting any limits beside voltage/freq but it sounds like a jet engine… Your claim of no loss in performance is not necessarily true all the time as people volt limited like me will be asking volt/clock to come down and fps will drop. Thanks for doing this tutorial. It was to the point.

Hot spot was 112C max when average core is 77C. Your video helped me to get fan speed more manageable before I got to fix the issue. Factory paste was reading a tad high from day one and got worse gradually. Many users report mid to low 60s for core and fan rpm in the 30s% when gaming across varias brands and models. Now my card is in line with those reports. Hopefully the job lasts. It is alarming to see people start to get paste degradation months after purchase on 4070ti cards. I even saw a report on 4090. my question is if the card needs more mhz will it take more automatically during gaming or is it a solid 2550 at max, and if my clock speeds are lower but my ram is faster, is that a hit to performance or a boost or will it be so negligible that i wont notice?? i havent had time to test myself and im not fully sure how afterburner works becuase i always try to minimize the number of programs i use.... now that i have these settings when i confirm them to be stable is there anyway to turn this into a hardware level undervolt so i dont need to run msi every time i start windows?

    Ciao, ti scrivo in italiano visto che ho notato che lo sei. Innanzitutto, ti faccio i complimenti per la bravura dimostrata nel video sull'undervolt. Ho seguito la tua guida per la mia MSI Ventus OC, e ho notato un miglioramento significativo. Sto riscontrando un problema, dopo un po' di tempo di gioco, i giochi tendono a crashare. Ad esempio, in Cyberpunk 2077 con tutto al massimo a QHD, i consumi sono scesi da 230W a 130W, con una diminuzione di soli 9 fps e 10 gradi in meno, ma il gioco si blocca ogni 30 minuti. Non sono un esperto in materia, quindi mi sono basato principalmente sul tuo video. Hai qualche consiglio su come risolvere questo problema? Grazie mille.

      Intanto ti ringrazio per i complimenti e mi scuso per la tarda risposta! Prova ad abbassare il core clock di 100Mhz ed il memory clock di 200Mhz rispetto ai valori del video!

    Didn't we just loose -350 mhz core clock? Or am I missing something. Can't you just underclock voltage without messing with core clock? The performance seems the same but the core clock was like 2780 in game, now 2610, why do you decide -350 at all, why not 200, 400? Thanks for the video!

    • @ImWateringPSUs
      @ImWateringPSUs  Před 7 měsíci

      Nope, we lower the curve and then get it back up! No clock loss. But it only works if you subscribe to the channel :p

    Thanks for the tutorial. Can you help with Afterburner displaying Volt as 0mv even though the voltage monitoring option is enabled in settings?

      Have you enabled voltage control as well? Either way you can still work on the curve, even if the mV are not displaying. But be sure to subscribe!

    helped me on my dying rtx 4070ti from Asus . I had 107 degree hotspot and now i have around 95 degrees hotspot . a major win and i dont have to disassemble the card. (PS make sure denug menu is not enabled in Nvidia control panel or the undervolt wont work . the curve wont be flat)

    i don't like losing performance so with my 4080 i just undervolted with a target of 1000mv. it's able to keep its stock clocks that way

    • @ImWateringPSUs
      @ImWateringPSUs  Před 11 měsíci

      That’s a great way to go! That way though, you’re actually gaining performance, because peak boost clock is not actually sustained at stock :)

    Great easy to folow video. I wanted to undervault my 4070ti to get rid of the awful coil whine but following your guide did not help. Could you make a follow up video that can help me please?

    • @ImWateringPSUs
      @ImWateringPSUs  Před rokem

      I’m really happy it was helpful! Thanks a lot for taking the time to write this, if you wanna reduce the coil whine even more you need to go lower with the millivolts. Try around 800mV, probably with 2400/2300Mhz on the core and do not give it any extra memory clock. The lower you go the less the coil whine!

    Question : for Undervolting, why even max out power limit and temp limit in MSI afterburner when our goal is to lower both temp and power consumption ? Isnt it completely useless ? Or just some safe precaution ?

    • @ImWateringPSUs
      @ImWateringPSUs  Před rokem +5

      It is indeed kind of a “precaution”. Basically, there might still be the occasional spike in power draw, even though on average it’s MUCH lower. By unlocking the Power limit and temp limit, we ensure that nothing throttles the performance!

    • @ImWateringPSUs
      @ImWateringPSUs  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Very good question! Both work, people usually prefer the new method because the effective clock is closer to reality. For 2770, usually 975mV will work
