Features
Siri with Apple CarPlay
Easily access the iPhone features you know and love, just by talking to Siri. Music, maps, phone calls and messages are all under your control1.
Voice Control with Android AutoTM
Use voice commands to dictate messages, take phone calls or get help from Google Maps. You can even control music playback, just by talking2.
See and control everything on a flush 6.95" (diag.) touchscreen
Bring up maps, sort through playlists, and make phone calls-all with just a quick tap on the touch controls. The ultra-slim 6.95" (diag.) (17.6cm) display uses a bezel-less panel, for a smooth fit on the dashboard that blends seamlessly with your car interior.
WebLink™ Cast compatible
WebLink™ is a lightweight app delivery platform designed especially for in-vehicle use. Using the Android or iOS device connection, it is now possible to mirror your smartphone screen right on the car audio display - for reliable, responsive infotainment anytime on the road3.
Easy installation with a compact rear chassis
Despite its double-DIN display, the rear chassis is far smaller than conventional double-DIN units. This makes for much easier installation, and leaves plenty of room for cabling and other accessories in the space behind the display.
Quick-access key panel
Enjoy quick and easy operation on the road. Keys along the bottom of the receiver give you instant access to basic features such as volume, source, sound settings and voice control.
Dual USB ports
Enjoy all the greatest hits from your music library while your phone handles directions. Thanks to dual USB ports, you can connect your smart phone and USB device at the same time.
3 X 5V pre-outs
Sony’s head unit with high voltage pre-out gives a strong 5-volt signal that provides clearer sound for optimal connection to external power amplifiers.
Dynamic Stage Organiser creates virtual speakers on your dashboard
Sound waves are directional, especially in the higher frequencies - so If your speakers are positioned low in your doors, high frequency sounds are often lost, reducing clarity and instrument separation. Dynamic Stage Organiser uses digital signal processing to lift the sound, improving stereo positioning so music sounds like it’s coming from right in front of you.
Rear camera ready for easy reversing
If you’ve got a rear camera installed, you can use it to help you park. Whenever you tap the rear camera icon or put your vehicle in reverse, the video feed instantly comes up on screen. Customisable guidelines help you to back in smoothly and safely.
Bluetooth® wireless technology
Make hands-free calls and stream wireless audio from your smartphone with Bluetooth®.
HDMI
4 x 55W amplification for clear, powerful sound
The Dynamic Reality Amp 2 gives you 4 x 55W of power, so you can play music as loudly or softly as you like. The amp has 47% less internal resistance than conventional units, for increased output and clear, natural sound at any volume.
FLAC compatible
FLAC compatibility lets you play lossless audio files, so you can enjoy every detail of the music4.
Listen to DAB+ Radio
Tune into DAB+ radio for even more choice and better audio quality. The receiver picks up your DAB favourites too.

Just installed this on my 2005 mustang. A much needed modern radio upgrade
Great review- made up my mind. I’m off to order one now 👍
Great video mate just picked one up 👍👍
The audio quality on those speakers is amazing! The fact it comes through via youtube says a lot! What speakers are you using? Are they amped or straight off the HU? Thanks for the video
Just fitted one of these in my sons mk5 fiesta, great looking and sounding unit. Oh, I would do for you, UB40 , great choice in music.
Cracking tune :)
I’m glad I waited to by a AX5000 a seems the 5500 is a great improvement
Thanks for a great vid. Looking at my Defender 2002 I need the single din to be at the bottom not the top. Can this be changed?
I'm thinking of putting one of these AX 5550D's into my 2008 Astra H. That would pretty much double its value! I am a bit worried how long it would be before the new audio unit got nicked.
Great video, just upgraded my T5.1 from a standard CD deck to this! Question: The fascia trim you have installed, is this the CONNECTS2 CT24VW12?
I have a Renault Captur 2015 and was wondering if this would fit instead of the standard Renault media say nav kit? Or would there be too much work needed.. thanks.
I didn’t notice in the test drive, but the Passat I bought has this unit, but the rear speakers are not producing sound, only the front speakers. Any idea why? It’s a fender system if that means anything.
Great vid mate. Can i ask would this fit an 05 plate vw passat ?
Question, do you need to connect with usb each time or can you connect via Bluetooth after initial setup to cast and use CZcams?
Would this be a kinda direct fit for an e46 M3 with navi? Thanks
quality content 👌
is it possible to wire in steering wheel controls to the unit? i have a 13 honda crz. i like my wheel controls and don't want to lose them.
It all looks good but I don't want to lose the time on the dash what about getting an amp and better speakers and a usb hookup to the Panasonic factory unit would knot get a good sound quality as seekers make a sound system better by a long shot especially with an amp and sub and amp what do you think?
Loving the format of this unit!! Would probably not have bothered with the iPad build in my '36 had I have seen this sooner... :)
I hav a xav-68bt if I buy this one is it straight switch cause I've took my old one out already
Can you use the Weblink feature when you are not in park?
How are you doing steering controls?
Does it have a built-in mic? because some of them don’t..
Is the screen glass?
audio ... what it is "all about" - absolutely
PIONEER's MVH-A219BT is full mirror. All apps including Whatsapp, Instagram, Facebook & CZcams etc can be played by mirroring entire phone with head unit.
Could you please explain the steering wheel control harness/cable? how do I connect it?
👋🏻 Great video, are the steering buttons still work like with the original unit?
Is this better than the XAV AX8050?
what chassis did you use for this? i'm looking at installing a 5600 in my volvo but can't find a chassis.
Just look up dash kits for your year and model
Hi there. You ran a single pair of RCA’s to your DSP from the unit. Correct me if I’m wrong, but wouldn’t it have been more beneficial to have run all three sets? Thanks.
Hi, no sq impact as the dsp will create the signal for incremental channels (it's designed to do that). What one will loose is the ability to use the fader and sub control from the stereo as that too will now be dependant on the DSP. No major fuss though.
Ajay Ahuja That’s great. I’ll be running the DRC to the front anyway. The only reason for the concern was that if I also used the sub output, I’d be stuck with no way to defeat the low pass crossover on the headunit.
@@Studioincar Thanks for the reply. I decided to go for the Sony XAV-AX8050, which you also demonstrated. I see what you mean about one set of RCA’s. It’s hard work cramming them down behind the stereo especially in an E90. LO☺️
In your opinion, is this better than the XAV-AX8050?
@@Studioincar other than keeping wiring to a minimum is there a signal benefit to running only one pair of RCA cables?
really want to know if I can put this in a civic ep3 type r
Yes
Will the head unit display VW parking sensors guide lines?
With certain interfaces you can display guidelines. The Sony has no native control software for VW. It has it's own optional reversing lines, also.
What features does this one have that the ax av 5000 doesn't?
DanKGameplays No Weblink on the 5000. Not that it matters. I have the 5500 and weblink is still super glitchy. Won’t work at all with my iPhone 7, and works terribly with my gf iPhone 11.
@@tony2k79 ok so basically it wasn't worth it
Will this unit fit in a single din slot if I can find a chassis to fit?
@@Studioincar ah thats a shame, do you have any recommendations for a single din unit with similar features by any chance? Trying to find a suitable one for my lotus elise is proving harder than I thought it would!
@@Studioincar Yeah I have seen that one too which looks great. The problem however is that on the small dash a screen that size will cover the entire centre vent fans as well as the fan controls even the adjustability of that model. 😔 Back to the drawing board!
I have the 7000 with weblink and my Netflix has sound but black screen 😭
How you have access on Netflix?
Netflix, prime video and other streaming apps do not allow video pass thru in screen mirroring. CZcams has no problem though.
Does this support wireless CarPlay :)
@@Studioincar
Thank you for replying and letting me know :)
If you had an iPhone plugged in to use CarPlay, could you plug an iPod into the other USB port to play music, I know somebody who is looking at getting this and wants to continue using their iPod for music
Thanks ever so much for playing music in the background, it was really distracting, thanks.
you seem like a fun guy
would be more understandable with no background music !
