I heard quite a few successful founders of tech startups got invited for "tea" with the Chinese government, where they were "invited" to share their big data with the government for purposes of national security. Basically once you hit a certain level of success, the Chinese government co-opts you into helping further its aims, and you can't say no. That is why a lot of successful Chinese tech CEOs quickly stepped down and named successors to avoid this plight.
And they also warns companies to stop monopolization. Jack Ma is punished (read: silenced) for monopolization attempts. You see, rich in China is just rich, but you have no control. Basically, the govt is fed up with Jack Ma, like you are fed up with Zuckerberg (Let's be honest, we're all are). But the difference is that CCP can easily punish Jack Ma. Here's the thing, when you're as rich as Jack Ma, Bill Gates, Bezos, Zuck, Elon, you can't be satisfied with buying billion dollar yachts (idk if it exists, but surely...). We (non-billionaires) dreamt for whatever it is: sports car, yacht, private jet, penthouse, 100k hermes belt, etc. because we can't afford them. Billionaires need something that keeps them worked up, one example is "Elon Musk trying to buy Twitter". I don't know his reasons (good or bad), but you can see that Elon is a bored man with too much money. Also, before his philantrophy acts, Gates' Microsoft was notorious for bullying the software market. Elon's not interested in owning Ferraris, Lamborghini, Teslas, Yachts, Billion dollar mansions, because he can afford them (buying your first house (using installment) vs buying your 3rd house (cash) gave a totally different feelings). Billionaires in China are rich, but not powerful. Their steps are tracked by the government to make sure their companies is not involved in shady capitalistic practice like Alibaba's recent scandal. China really hates Comapny monopoly (e.g. they have 3 youtube-like alternatives, and all three of them are similarly popular) and I really like their stance in this matter (unless I'm the billionaire).
