That wasn't the point, they're not saying that these are reliable articles. His point was that Johnny's reputation wasn't good in the industry or with the media, therefore the op-ed didn't defame him or ruin his reputation (was already in shambles) the way he claimed.

Not sure you understand the depth of what Disney did to anticipate JD would ever accept ANY offer from them. He created that character and worked on the Pirate films for many years and Disney did not give him any benefit of doubt. I can only imagine what that felt like to him but I am sure that wound is so deep it will never completely heal. It isn't possible. When something you create has been destroyed a part of you dies with it.
Disney does not deserve the millions of dollars that it would make with another Pirates movie. As sad as it is, for all his fans, I think he made the right call.
