      Michael Chiklis has always been great. Before "The Shield", he used to play the protagonist in "The Comish", and he was awesome in that too. Good to see him here still pushing forward, breaking new ground.

      What the show failed to show was that Auerbach's protégé, Bill Sharman, built the Lakers dynasty. He coached them to their first championship in LA, then served as GM when they picked Johnson and won five more chips.

    Very surprised by this series...the telling of the story has a lot of interesting variations with side narratives from the characters. John C. Reilly is terrific. The whole cast especially the choice of Magic actor was very good.

    What a great show. Amazing that someone had the idea to do this. Even more incredible that people invested in it, to get some great actors. This Laker dynasty was a piece of my youth. I was already a 13 year old Laker fan when we lucked into Magic Johnson. The rest is, as they say, hiss-toe-ree!

    Would love to see HBO do a show on how the Celtics were racial pioneers in not only the nba but pro sports as a whole, specifically drafting Chuck cooper, on Bill Russell being the first African American coach in the league and doing all of this in the racial pressure cooker that was Boston back in those days.

It would show what made West the way he was, the way Auerbach was the way he was etc. I know it’s just entertainment, but it rubbed me the wrong way kinda the way they portrayed Auerbach in this, they just rececntky honored him in Boston during Black history month, Boston like everywhere back then had it’s racial issues, but to tie the Celtics and Auerbach to any of it, even if it’s just subtle, is a disgrace to the memory of the great man and great organization the Celtics are!

      @@805fillmore that the Celtics drafted Bird because he was some kind of great white hope when home and Johnson weren’t even in the same draft, and the way they portrayed him as against fast action in the game because it’s like “street ball” when in actuality the Celtics were the originators of fast break/showtime style play in the 60s.

    Instead of walking out like he did, if I was Dr. Jerry Buss, I would’ve stayed and taken that all in for when the time came for the Lakers to beat his Celtics, 1985 and 1987, I would have thrown all that backlash Red Auerbach was giving me back in his face!

    I know we had Last Dance. But if you want ego, competition, undercutting, and envy - the Bulls dynasty really needs to be dramatized. Phil with his eccentricities, Krause and his Nixon like paranoia, MJ, Rodman, Pippen. The kukoc saga, Dennis, etc.

    Auerbach reminds me a bit of Archie Bunker from All In the Family. But he is the GOAT in the game. If Buss really wanted to win, he ought to have tried to hire Auerbach, see if he'll take the bigger bucks or laugh him out.

    I don't know if this scene is realistic or fabricated for drama. But Red was cerebral, eccentric and I don't think he'd get real angry over dinner. For one thing, it would have been much more realistic if they had Red at a Chinese place - that's almost all he ever ate. Red wanted very badly for Larry Joe and the Celtics to beat Magic and the Lakers. However, after the fight he would have told you the rivalry was the best thing that ever happened to the game.

    Lakers went on to win 11 Chips and Celtics 4 after the 1979-80 season. Both tied at 17.

      @@AstroSully I’m not a fan of either city but find it ridiculous that the Lakers (as an organization) can actually say with a straight face that they have 17 championships. Do the OKC thunder have a banner from their championship in Seattle. The LA Lakers have 12. To count the other 5 is disingenuous.

    Just so everybody else know, this is about 20% all factual series in general. Great acting, good entertainment, but not as factual as people want it to be.
