I used to work WNBA games on the sideline for a west coat team...can confirm. These ladies never sell out the arena. On game day, the crowd is funneled into the lower bowl and its even sparsely filled up. They are not going to get tons of sponsors off that...the money is NOT there. They cant get a portion off nothing coming in, and youre supported by the NBA, That tells you most people and sponsors aint doing that...OCHO doesnt get basic economics...he in his feelings for some odd reason. Most people who complaining about this ish dont even watch or attend their games, and I know that first hand,.

My wife, who doesn't watch sports at all, surprised me a year or so ago when this topic came up. She too wanted WNBA players to get paid more. Long story short, I asked her to name me 3 WNBA players. She couldn't. I asked me to just name me 1 WNBA team. She quickly tried to pivot and say well I'm misogynistic for not watching women's sports. I quickly pointed out I watch more women's tennis than men's (I actually do), love golf regardless of gender and watched Sydney McLaughlin break 400 records at the olympics, so how does that make sense? She QUICKLY dropped the topic, trying to pretend we weren't even talking about it!
Nobody gets upset that the best female supermodels make 100 times what the best male supermodels do. In fact, when you say, "supermodel", you just assume it's a woman. Why aren't male supermodels demanding to get paid the same thing that the females do? Because everyone understands the men aren't driving revenue. But when it comes to the WNBA, all of a sudden, women want charity.

WNBA has a marketing problem that can only be solved by them realizing the truth. Athletically they don't compete with the NBA so they need to find another angle. People forget that it was the Lakers and Celtics that saved the NBA and they were able to build a market around that. WNBA doesn't advertise, there is no perceived rivalaries, no heroes, no villains, just showing up and playing. If Reese and Clark come out this year, they should put all their eggs in that basket and market that rivalry like a death match. The public loves conflict and we love to chose sides.

That's plenty of money. They are playing basketball for a limited time of the year and making way more than people who work 2 jobs 5-6 days out of a week.
The problem with the wnba, is that one of the most exhilarating plays in basketball is non existent and no one knows who 99 percent of the players are. The dunk add so much excitement, and without that, it's just a bunch of layups and jumps. You're getting half the game, and paying full ticket prices.

I’ve never understood this argument or discussion. It’s as simple as supply and demand. If you are generating $$$, you deserve a fair/equitable cut. No one complains about women’s tennis because the prices are the same for their matches as the men at majors and ratings tend to be fairly similar, thus they deserve equal pay. I say the same thing for the women’s soccer team. They draw consistently, thus they should receive a higher cut. But when your league has literally been subsidized to remain in existence, it is foolish for WNBA players to expect similar pay. It’s not misogyny, it’s mathematics.

The amount of women who speak on the league and don't watch any games is outrageous. A lot of women like to argue and won't support what they are arguing. You would be surprised at how many argue for more pay for the W yet they couldn't name a starting five for today's WNBA. This being said, y'all can hype Clark or Reese up and you're just doing that. Hyping. The W is not watched, majority of the arenas are EMPTY while good games are being played. No viewership and low attendance yields less marketing dollars. I am not even going to speak on the political agenda they are pushing. In total, the W will not make millions because not even hundreds are supporting, yet THOUSANDS are arguing for equality.

I think the distinct turn off for the casual customer is that the W in WNBA is not championed. If you compare WNBA to NBA on just basketball skill and level of competition the WNBA appears to be a waste of time. However , WNBA some players argue that they are just as good or better. Which no one objectively would say. So delusional of capability and a lack of feminity makes the value less. College basketball , the women project and present a competitive femininity that not trying to compare to their male counterparts. The drama of sport is regulated to their context, story and skill level. (Like the little league world series does for kids). WNBA general culture seems to compares themselves to NBA players , and come across masculine (we are the same) but it has never and will never be true. That is why they make money participating in leagues overseas where the culture still champions feminity (women or women , men are men, they are not the same). This is more an observation and interpretation then a proclamation ....consider it as well .
If the wnba gave a better product then they would make more money. No one wants to see all these brick shots and no dunks. The salary is more than adequate.

There's no rule against women playing in the NBA. The problem is that the worst NBA players would look like Michael Jordan vs the best WNBA player. The NBA secures the best talents in the world and they happen to be men by default because size, strength, speed, endurance, courage, strategy and perseverance are all tools that enhance the skills associated with the games fundamentals and rules.
Back in the day Shaq was bringing down goals. His power and size allowed him to access part of the game that very few could follow. No WNBA player can come close to being a brick wall like him, outreach him on a rebound, or have the power to scare opponents out of the way from the fear of being injured by him. How many WNBA players can dunk from free throw line like Jordan?? The guys and girls may be playing basketball but the guys are on a different planet.
