  • Join me as I present the first ever comprehensive review of Wamos Air's daily service between Perth, Western Australia and Auckland, New Zealand. Operating under a special wet lease arrangement for Air New Zealand Spanish charter carrier Wamos Air have been contracted to operate Air New Zealand's daily flight between Perth and Auckland since November 2022 to help the Kiwi carrier free up there Boeing 787 Dreamliner that used to operate the route to boost resilience elsewhere on the carrier's network. The arrangement means the service until later this year is a fully wet-leased flight with Wamos Air meaning the Spanish carrier provides their Airbus a330-200 aircraft along with its own pilots and crew for this flight whilst Air New Zealand still takes responsibility for marketing and selling the service as well as the on board catering and ground handling.
    In this review I will offer my compressive take on everything about the Wamos Air experience on the longest Air New Zealand service to Australia that comes in at a lengthy 7 hours 40minutes on the outbound to Perth and the 6 hour and 20 minute flight that we are taking to Auckland tonight. Further the aim of this review is to help you decide whether it is still worth booking the route with Air New Zealand whilst Wamos Air are being contracted to operate the route or whether it is best to wait until the kiwi carrier reinstates its own Boeing 787 Dreamliner back on the route! For anyone else around the world who find there usual airline contracting out to Wamos I help you find this informative too!

    I was lucky enough to fly Wamos / AirNZ on this exact route in August 2023. I found my experience very similar to yours: hard product ok enough, but the highlight was the crew, who were amazing and very attentive, couldn't do enough for you. Thanks for sharing your journey, it was good to relive mine, and to see Perth Airport again. I do love those check-in and bag-drop kiosks, and tbh, I think you got the better lounge deal... the AirNZ lounge is fine, but that one you had access to was next level. Happy travels.

    • @AussieJetSetter
      @AussieJetSetter  Před měsícem +1

      Thanks for watching Michael, very much agree with your assessment there. After a short return to Perth with ANZ B787 Wamos have been back operating the route for a few months now. Looks like the global engine shortage is still causing issues for the airline, I have heard the Auckland to Chicago service suspension has been extended too possibly for same reason! Yes it’s a great lounge in Perth unbelievable views. Defs one to use priority pass for!

    • @michaelgask
      @michaelgask Před měsícem +1

      @@AussieJetSetterYes, that Chicago extension shows how bad the shortage of planes is for AirNZ. On the other hand, apparently it really is adios to Wamos from next month. At least for now, anyway.

    • @AussieJetSetter
      @AussieJetSetter  Před měsícem +1

      Yep I believe ANZ have only just recently resumed to Perth. I’m sure WAMOS will no doubt be on standby for quite some time now in these uncertain times!

    I have flown this return flight in economy twice in the last 9 months, in November 2022 and March 2023 and I am about to fly with them again in October 2023. The only issue I can identify for me was the seating was not very comfortable. In my opinion, I found all other services were great as in friendly staff, cleanliness, meals satisfactory, and price reasonable comparable to other alternatives neither better nor worse and of course, the element of when you book needs to be considered. The most important feature available for me was the direct flight. Thanks Air New Zealand and Wamos Air I was more than happy with your service :)

    • @AussieJetSetter
      @AussieJetSetter  Před 9 měsíci +1

      Thanks so much for watching Shelley and for sharing your detailed experience of Wamos. I largely found a similar assessment the hard aircraft product is perhaps a little behind but the soft product was fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed the flight and the connivance of direct saves so much times as opposed to connecting through over east. When I flew the direct flight it did attract a slight premium over the indirect flights both sold by Air NZ in conjunction with Qantas to indeed any of the Australian airlines

      Thanks for watching Pam and the tip off about return of Wamos first I had heard of it! Enjoyed spotting the Air NZ Dreamliner back in the Perth only the other evening which has turned out to be short lived! Just checked there website looks like Wamos are being recontracted to operate the wet lease from Feb 9 through to April 30. With a rather lengthy turnaround period in Auckland they probably will be parking up at a remote gate fingers crossed they are prepared for your needs as all
      Customers deserve the best possible experience🤞

      Thanks AJ, after Air NZ sent me the notification just this morning I phoned Air NZ straightaway to confirm my requested wheelchair and luckily it's still in the system. Will certainly be glad of it in AKL as I wouldn't be able to stand that long in the customs queue!

      Thanks for watching thrilled you enjoyed it! A minor shame indeed. I put in a 'weak' bid of $420 which was a tad higher than the minimum 'very weak' $330. I guess I probably pocketed the money to spend in NZ so never mind :)
      Certainly looked like rather a conventional 20 seats business class cabin but still with lie flat seats and to be honest reckon it would of been a better upgrade then Air NZ's Dreamliner seats which are awardly structured and tricky to film take off and landing from!

    The remote stand was most likely die to early arrival means if it's busy then gate booked wasn't avalible so they give a remote rather than have plane wait for jet bridge also wamos plane u arrived won't fly out again for around 6 to 8 hours so having it at remote stand means they don't need to then move the aircraft empty off the gate as Auckland ground handlers may not be insured for wamos plan so its solves a lot of issues

      @@AussieJetSetter your welcome I really liked the review it gave good honest feelings of service and shows some the issues when carriers lease aircraft with Auckland as air nz doesn't operate a330 plane and wamos are only doing Perth flights that plane isn't just turned round and then go straight out like a330 of qantas or Malaysian who bring a330 those planes turn round go back out within a few hrs but the Perth flight comes in round 6ish in moring then doesn't go back out till the afternoon that to long have plane just sitting at a jet bridge Auckland a smaller airport compared to Sydney or Singapore etc so gates are needed so it more put wamos flight on the remote stand then tow it to gate when it's going out again but this under no way excuses bus not being there to meet the plane I personally as an aviation geek love remote stands as u get to see the plane upclise where jet bridge u miss it that why I love 727 as it had boarding stairs . But if flight arriving on a remote stand the ground handler should have buses waiting to meet plane most big airlines have separate bus for business class but again a lot of ground handling at airports as aussie had issues is contracted out to other Companies they save cash wherever possible so I think this review does show air nz needs to look at its ground handle people in Perth and Auckland a while air nz used hilly to replace its dreamliners business and priumum economy passengers where offered refunds as no priumum economy on hilly and business class was a lot less attractive than airnz as no lie flat on hi fly Did you notice if wamos aircraft had premium economy at all

      Yeah mate E gates for Australian passport holders on arrival in NZ we essentially get special category PR visas by default on arrival due to Trans Tasman Travel Agreement getting through immigration is super easy although customs can still ask a few questions if they are feeling like it!

      @@AussieJetSetter Yeah I gathered that but I saw there's a whole list of ebliable passport holders from various countries who can also use the egates is it just a one step process like scanning your passport because I didn't see any kiosks or E tickets like the smartgate system in Australia?

      Thanks for sharing your thoughts and glad you enjoyed the review!
      Yeah it is disappointing Air NZ keep out sourcing the route.Whilst I thought Wamos in my experience provided a fairly reasonable service albeit with the older yet still fairly comfortable aircraft they have its not really a good look for the airline not appearing to have the capacity resilience to be confident to fulfil all its routes that it sells tickets on.
      Its not exactly an insignificant flight at 6.5-7.5 hours depending on the direction and with Air NZ charging a decent premium for the monopoly they have on the direct route customers are well within their rights to expect the modern Dreamliner experience!
      I redeemed a flight credit to book this flight knowing in advance it would be operated by Wamos but I can understand the frustration of those who had booked under the understanding it would be a AIR NZ flight then only later to be informed they outsourced the flight to Wamos - especially the Premium economy class passengers that would be bumped down to economy!

    Ive flown from perth to nz quite a bit to visit family and last time I went a year ago it was on the wamos flight..yeah I dont think I liked it at all really😭 the seats were uncomfortable, the inflight entertainment was pretty bad and the intercom would go off and it would be the crew hurriedly yelling in spanish, and to top it all off we had to circle around multiple times to land so a bit stressful. Thanks for the video I dont really hear people talk about it and sucks that they reintroduced the planes recently

    • @AussieJetSetter

      Thanks for watching and offering your thoughts. I do understand that the other reviews on it are very mixed indeed and a lot of people are not a huge fan of Wamos. I reviewed it as Wamos flight already knowing it wouldn’t by an ANZ flight but if I had booked ANZ and was booted to Wamos I can understand how frustrating it would be and in many regards such as the economy seating and IFE are not up to standard of ANZ Maybe I will have to do a comparison review in the future when the Dreamliners hopefully return! Maybe in the interim you could try Batik I saw there Auckland to Perth flights were going for $400nzd which is about $200 cheaper than Wamos!

    I fly to Perth next week wondering how you think a 6.4ft bloke will go in the economy seats for leg room haha? Also what’s the go with the sound on the entertainment do they have Bluetooth for headphones cheers TIA!!

    • @AussieJetSetter
      @AussieJetSetter  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Thanks for watching . I’m tall but probably a little less tall than that for me it was more than acceptable for the semi over night flight towards Auckland although the seat didn’t really have any extra bells and whistles to help with comfort or sleep - it was pretty basic and I think you won’t have much room at all at your height ( if your flying to Perth your probably flying in the day so it might not be so much an issue anyway.)
      My tip would be try and reserve a seat towards the back the last half a dozen rows or so tapers off to 2-3-2 on their a330 so pick a window seat at the back and you’ll have a slightly better feel for room and the chances of getting empty seats next to you are usually better. As for Bluetooth I don’t think the screen did so if you got any decent headphones bring a cord for them aswell or use a Bluetooth wireless receiver like the Airfly. Entertainment was pretty limited in general though so it may be worth loading up your own device! Enjoy your flight to Perth next week!

      Sorry about the late reply. They do have a USB A port out of the IFE screen - I wouldn’t bank on it supplying enough power for an IPad though although I didn’t use it so not 100% sure. Brining a power bank May be a good idea. Thanks for watching!
