LOVE LOVE that movie. Saw it 100x at least!!! 😮👏🥰
When you watch nearly 3 hours of a film & you don't ever want it to end. HEAT is an absolute masterclass. Certainly one of the greatest films ever made.
Hear, hear. I would like to think that there are cuttings from the film during editing that could be inserted to make a directors cut, even if it last four, five or six hours long. The existing directors cut only works on creating a more visual movie without adding extra scenes. One of the best movies ever though!
My favourite film. It’s not dated one bit. Absolutely stunning in every way.
Heat has many + moments but the film like a few other Mann projects, drifts off then slowly reels back to the story, building drama. Heat is a excellent movie.
My favorite movie till I saw Interstellar. That was a long time on top.
100% with you on this one.

He hands me 'Heat'. He said 'it's the best movie I've ever seen!'
I raised an eyebrow and looked at him skeptically and said 'that's a big call man...'
He said 'it's so good that I wish I hadn't seen it just so I could experience watching it for the first time again. It's that good'.

Is it a crime story? a heist movie? is it story about a father? about the inability to conect with other people? About workholics? Is it a depection of the people that operate a highest order of their field? Is it about that certain loneliness at the top? The music makes you reflect so much upon the movie.
a crime story told in detail.
IMO it's a story about lonely people, hiding in their work, too afraid to face relationships. It all comes undone for McCauley, and his crew when he finally realises that.
But he wanted the relationship even though he destroyed it by giving in to his impulse.
It's about all of the above, and I'll also add it's about decisions and consequences.

There will come a time when people will finally see Michael Mann for what he is - one of the greatest poets of our time. His world is that of nightly cityscapes, diffused sodium light and alienated men.

A friend of mine worked on set for this movie and called me to tell me he was in DTLA and the greatest shootout in film history was being made. He was secretive and couldn’t tell me much other than they had half of DTLA shut down and this particular scene was something no one was ever gonna do again. And he was right.

Wow, awesome. That scene was absolutely incredible. And if you have a good sound system with good base, it just doesn't get any better than that.
Andy McNab choreographed a large part of that scene… epic
Wow.. your friend was fortunate to have been there. That is iconic.
They've tried to duplicate it in movies and TV since, but they couldn't capture the magic and mayhem of the original.
The scene of McCauley standing against a window and watching the ocean was inspired by the painting "Pacific" by Alex Colville
I notice Mann puts this scene in every movie. a man staring out at the emptiness. Miami Vice movie did the same scene with colin farrel.

Driving with this on the highway at night is an incredibly comforting experience. Almost surreal. Just you, the car, and the road endlessly going under your headlights.
Two weeks ago I was in LA, speeding down the San Bernardino freeway in the dark of night as I blasted Moby's New Dawn Fades. The glare from all the vehicle headlights reminded me of the headlight glow captured onscreen when Hanna flags down McCauley and invites him to ☕
In an interview Al Pacino revealed that for the scene in the restaurant between Hanna and McCauley, Robert De Niro felt that the scene should not be rehearsed so that the unfamiliarity between the two characters would seem more genuine. Michael Mann agreed, and shot the scene with no practice rehearsals.

We all greatly appreciate this movie because is one of the most powerful symbolic representations of the male condition. So rare and misunderstood
Beautiful. I knew there was something a little deeper that kept me attached to this movie since my younger years. The male condition. Never talked about on tv shows. Rarely displayed in movies.
We all kind of go thru this life alone. Knowing these struggles face all of us men yet our very nature forces us to deal with it in solitude.
Here I am only having the courage to speak about it through the anonymity on the internet. Life is somethin. Thanks for opening my eyes to this.
@@vikinghammer87Hear, hear! Very well put and it is true. And I am certain that solitude is what makes us men not only more mature, but also stronger in spirit.
Thank you. I believe you’re right.@@Yacubisko
bro your being gay
The misunderstood, and hopefully rare, thing about this movie is that the immaturity of some guys wanting to play cops and robbers can't justify all of the physical and emotional collateral damage that others, and particularly women, are left to clean up. Most of the main characters that we really know anything about are in a fantasy that they think justifies ducking their responsibilities to anyone but their peers. It's exactly the reason that
- Hanna's marriages fall apart
- Neil doesn't get out and Eady is left alone
- Chris will be separated from his family
- Michael's family and Don Breedan's girlfriend are left to fend for themselves
- Trejo and his wife are dead
It's a truly great movie about the immaturity of some guys made to appeal to the immaturity of others, but it shouldn't be seen as endorsing anything noble. The idea that the guys in THIS movie are the ones who are more mature and stronger is a misreading of what's on the screen.

You see him looking at the sea like if he knew there was no escape. I really wished he would have taken that plane with Eady, but I totally understand why he didn't. I've made that mistake too. It's that eternal fight of those little voices inside you, one telling you to let it go and the other one telling you that you shouldn't, while your "real" you, actually know you definitely should let it go, but you decide not to anyway. You see him struggling with that in the car while driving to the airport, then decides to get out of the highway to his death. That part stuck with me forever. Regardless, it was a master piece all over. The music is hypnotizing.

The symphonic-electronic texture of the score is mesmerizing. I relish the comments that convey what viewing this movie in the cinema was like. Sadly, I never saw Heat in the theater because I was in a long term rehab from 1995-1996 - notwithstanding, I have a visceral experience when I watch Mann’s masterpiece on Television. The image of Neil standing in the dark, staring out at the dark Pacific Ocean is beautiful - somehow this single-image captures Neil’s condition “I am alone, but not lonely.”
