On Cranston Street you have The Cranston Street Armory which is a very beautiful armory that has architecture of that of a mini castle in France

Hi Henry, thank you so much for your kind words. Providence is definitely a great place to visit. You'll discover so many interesting and historic sites around the city. I hope you get to visit it someday 😊
As someone born and raised in Rhode Island, the swan boats were probably closed due to it being winter as most of the activities in the park are usually closed until spring. I recommend coming back in October since the lake is lit up and you can rent a swan boat to go through it at night. The Jack-o-Lantern Spectacular at Roger Williams Park Zoo is also an event I recommend attending during October. It's a night time ticketed event and you can go through the trails in the zoo to see the different pumpkin carvings that all are usually in line with the year's theme. They also sell merchandise for kids like light up swords and wands, and snacks are also sold on site like hot chocolate, popcorn and fried dough. But if you want to see the animals, you'll have to go back in during the day since they're put away before the event is opened to the public.

I lived in RI for 60 years. Two of my children live there. You touched a little gem and missed some other gems. Newport, Beavertail, Narragansett bay, Long and Ell pond just to name a few...
The weather sucks for 7 months. The roads suck. The drinking water sucks. The politicians suck ( Mafia good ol boy ) We can't do it that way. We always do it this way with this company.
We went to Newport after Providence and visited Hartford as well. 😊
Before the American Civil War, there were only two geographical entities that never had a slave law on the books. One was New Hampshire and the other was Providence Plantation. In recent fit of assumed historical brilliance, the State recently changed its name from the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations" to just 'Rhode Island." The historical truth is that the term Rhode Island in that former name refers principally what is not called Newport Island. The great irony is that Newport Island was the favorite summer retreat of the major Southern Plantation and slave owners such as John C Calhoun. Newport Island was quite practical for this purpose as the fact that it was an island meant that it was much easier to keep track of the many slaves they would bring with them for the season. This was particularly important as under the law in Providence Plantations slaves could take their case to court if they ran away from their masters. Of course, this was not the case in Newport.

Thank you so much for your kind words! Yes, we parked at the providence mall and explored the city by foot. Parking is free for the first 2 hours then 2-5 hours is $2, 5-8 hours is $15, 8-15 hours is $20 and 20-24 hours is $25.

Go to Federal Hill if you want Great Italian food!
It rained hard as soon as we reached Federal Hill so we didn't get to explore it that much. Plus, we were heading to Newport as well. I hope we get to come back to Providence one of these days. Thanks for the tip. ❤️

@@alewolf7 it's dangerous at night, there's been an uptick in violent crime and since the Renaissance in Providence it looks nicer but it's misleading. It's just more risk than it's worth to go there more than necessary at night. I'm not saying I never go but so many people I know have had their only violent encounters rendered upon them in Providence at night. I'm not saying that it can't happen anywhere but Providence is an Urban center and it's the mayor wasn't succeeding at all at curbing crime and violence. So much that people were disgusted.
