    Great info the that budget mixing board. I think eventually I will get a good mic & mixer when I can do HF at my QTH without a lot of noise. Do livestreams eventually with that config too. 73!

      Thank you Jeff, Are you talking about RF noise or just regular noise in your house. I live in the middle of nowhere so there's not a lot of RF noise but I've got teenagers, traffic and dogs that like to bark while I'm recording. Those all make plenty of regular noise. I made a small booth by hanging cargo blankets. It's cheap and fairly effective at quieting things down.

      @@59RadioUSA RFI. Loads of it in my area. Can’t operate HF SSB at my QTH at certain of the day/night. Some bands are all S7+ noise levels. Which is why I do a lot of POTA activating.

      I'm afraid I cant be much help there. The worst RFI I've had to deal with was at the POTA I activated a few blocks from a city power plant. A Flex radio in a remote location is an expensive option but would probably solve the issue.

    I'd like to know more about your PTT switch box design. Does it provide galvanic isolation (i.e. a transformer) to eliminate the possibility of ground noise and hum rejection? I thought I heard a little 120 Hz hum on your microphone review. Also, my mic input has a two grounds. One labeled and the other labeled simply labeled . I've seen this on several mic pinouts. Which one should I use? Finally, have you ever given any thought to using the 'data' input (usually reserved for a TNC on the rear of the radio) instead of the mic input. My old FT-100 has a 1200 and a 9600 baud input. It's still an analog input but it bypasses the mic front end which has a band pass filter and some compression.

      Greg,
      My box has a 600 ohm 1:1 transformer. That slight hum became a loud buzz in the days following the video and I did a complete rebuild of my box. New switch, transformer and some of the wiring. I'm not completely sure where the problem was but the hum is gone. My 2 meter rig only has PTT, GND & MIC connections and no rear input but my FT 450D has the MIC GND/GND connections. The MIC GND goes to the Microphone and the GND goes to the PTT switch. The data input on it has been hooked up to my computer for digital modes but I'm planning to get a new FTDX10 soon which will connect to the computer by USB. Still I plan to connect through the front mic port with a Heil XLR cable.
      I know you're running a Yaesu but if you ever get an ICOM radio you must put a capacitor on the mic connection. ICOM runs DC voltage on that wire and it will see your microphone as a short and will cause damage to the radio.
