March 6th marked the 35th Anniversary of the Miners’ Strike. On March 12th 1984 the Derbyshire Miners joined the year long Strike in defense of jobs and our communities. To mark this event we are releasing footage of our commemorative event 'Born in 84' held in the Winding Wheel in Chesterfield.

Lyrics: We are women we are strong - A song from the 1984 miners strike by Mal Finch
    Chorus:
We are women, we are strong,
We are fighting for our lives
Side by side with our men
    Who work the nation's mines,
    United by the struggle,
    United by the past,
And it's - Here we go! Here we go!
For the women of the working class."
We don't need Government approval for anything we do
We don't need their permission to have a point of view
We don't need anyone to tell us what to think or say
We've strength enough and wisdom of our own to go our own way
    CHORUS
They talk about statistics, about the price of coal
The price is our communities dying on the dole
In fighting for our future we found ways to organise
Where womens liberation failed to move, this strike has mobilised
    CHORUS
Ours is a unity that threats can never breach
Ours an education books and schools could never teach
We face the taunts and the violence of Thatcher's thugs in blue
When you're fighting for survival you've got nothing, nothing left to lose
    CHORUS

Our women made the strike possible. They stood up to be counted, fed us, raised money, picketed and much more.
We had to take the fight full on as our industry was under threat like never before.
I have nothing but respect for the women who stood with us

I was there that night, sat pretty much last on the left of the first row I think. A great night and Dick Gaughan was awesome too.
I wish someone would record this and put it out digitally for people to buy, with the money raised going to the Oregreave Truth and Justice Campaign, or similar. I am sure Joe Solo would host it on his site and raise the profile.
    Never Forget, Never Forgive!

legends. Tony Benn mentions the song in More Time For Politics (diaries 2001-07), says it brings a tear to his eye.
