Zelda II - Palace Theme Cover on Synths (The Adventure of Link)

- I recently played the NES Legend of Zelda games for the first time (they were the only ones in the series that I hadn't beaten) and I really loved the Palace/Temple theme in Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link. There's something really dark and mysterious about it that made me want to keep playing (and inevitably dying over and over). Here's my live arrangement of the tune, hope you enjoy!
I'm posting weekly videos now and I hope to keep doing so for as long as I can (once I start touring again, things can get tricky but I'll do my best). Please drop a comment and let me know what kind of content you'd like to see on this channel.
Thanks for your support!
Gear used: Sequential Prophet XL and Pro 3, Studio Electronics Boomstar 4075, Arcadia controller (custom built for me by Matt Moldover), Native Instruments Battery 4. - Hudba
Thank you for watching! If you haven't subbed yet, please do so and help this channel get noticed by the CZcams algo.
What tunes would you like to see me cover next?
Something from the Half-Life series would be cool!
Here's Some of my favorites. I tried to keep it short but there are a lot of good bops.
Half-Life 2

@@Th3bAc0nBiTs27 HL2 was one of my favorite games ever! I don't remember the soundtrack very well, I'll have to give it another listen. Thanks for the suggestion.
@@GLASYS Just gonna warn you the instant you release a Half-Life cover you're definitely going to get people asking for Portal covers.
That person will probably be me but others will be thinking it!
@@Th3bAc0nBiTs27 many moons ago I had a band and we made this cover:
czcams.com/video/jQTQRBu0pLE/video.html
It definitely wasn't perfect, and our lead singer mispronounced a couple of words which got the whole comment section riled up but we had a lot of fun. 😂
Amazing work as always!
I would love a cover of Ryu's theme from Street Fighter II or Big Blue from F-Zero!
Also you obviously love Castlevania so could I also throw in Castlevania III - Beginning or Castlevania II - Bloody Tears?
This is the modern day version of organ players at silent movie theaters, or baseball games.
Would be hilarious if this became popular especially since there are now huge gaming competitions.
that would be lit as fuck between smash tourneys in the top 8
Thaaaaaaaaat's actually an amazing idea 🧐
I can't believe what your left hand can do!
that's what she said!
@@TheInfamousBertman damn you. Beat me to it xD
Imagine if he had a third hand lol
@@pixelstrikegames6380 she also said that!
I second this! Just wow! 🎹👍👍
as someone whose been covering this tune on keys for years, bravo on that neat choice drop the bass note to C for a moment in the progression
Thanks Chris! I try to throw in a few harmonic surprises here and there - especially when the same sections repeat. Keeps it fresh and interesting for me. :)
Underrated game right here! I think most people will know this as 'that' Smash Bros. song. I still don't get how you can even do what you're doing here but amazing work as always!
This game infuriated me! It is a classic though.
they put the Zelda II palace music in smash brothers? it's one of the greatest video game tunes ever created
@@szlash280z he's probably talking about adventure mode in Smash Brothers Melee. Ah good times....
@@szlash280z Yeah - Zelda II and Castlevania II have some of the best music in their franchises. But the games do not get nearly enough respect.
Your playing is crazy!
I wish i had 3 different brains like you.
Edit: spelling.
0:36 a lick from Final Fantasy I's Battle Theme. Nice :)
How on earth can you make the synthesizers sound so freakishly awesome! We need more soundtracks like this!
Thanks so much Chemsem! Glad you like the synth sounds!
GLASYS it’s like butter to my ears! I love electronic music and dance music of all types and your style is just cake! If I could draw as well as you compose/arrange music on the synths I’d be something something.
Video game music is so underrated, the talent involved in writing or even performing such composition is incredible. They use complex chords/progressions, and matching melodic phrases with very odd syncopated rhythms and time signatures, really the top tier in modern music theory.
Brooooo, playing drums and synth at the same time!!! yesssss
Thanks Beau Jones! :)
You literally brought tears to my eyes with the choral section. I listen to many remixes of this song and most seem to miss the understanding of where the focus on this song is. A true masterpiece.
Thank you Alex 🙏
Oh you absolute madman! This is Insane. Your each finger has a brain, So well done man!! Beautifully produced and played ooof❤️
Hey Starcisis, you're very kind! Thanks so much for the kind words! Really glad you enjoyed it :)
loved the video of the game accompanying your music!
Always giving that Glasys magic touch, freaking awesome man, thanks for this masterpiece!
Thanks so much for the kind words Alfredo! 🙏
That percussion work god-tier
ALWAYS look forward to your explorations!
I just stumbled upon this jewel of a version. You just made my day, man. As a fellow keyboard player I enjoyed this an awful lot!
Hey Pablo, thanks man! Really appreciate the kind words, glad you enjoyed it 🙏
@glasys can't say enough how great your videos and playing are; much appreciated, thanks!
Thanks X80, I appreciate you!
Fantastic cover, you're a gifted man for music! Congrats!
Thank you so much my friend!
Definitely the most underrated Zelda music and some of the best.
If you pay attention to the left hand, you'll notice that parts of this tune are based on a very similar bassline and chord progression as the tense "turnaround" from the classic surf tune "Pipeline"
The man with TWO BRAINS and FOUR HANDS is at it AGAIN...WOW
Damn dude. Been following your stuff for a couple of years now. Incredible as always.
Thanks so much Charles! I appreciate your support man!
I found you like 5 minutes ago thanks to Metroid, and you might just be my new favorite youtuber. Amazing channel!
Hey thanks so much, I appreciate you being here :)
Damn, that left hand agility is something else!
Thanks so much Reonlasbard!
Dude you effing ROCK! You deserve so much more attention!
Thank you! :)
Bravisimo!! That was freakin AWESOME! Been on a Palace Theme kick tonight and this is my favorite one! You need more exposure, brother! Very cool technique and skill in your performance! :)
Thanks so much for the kind words Boswen! I'm glad this is your favorite cover of this tune, that truly means a lot! 🙏
GAAAAH. Watching this puts me in this awful conflicted range of emotions from anger, envy, and awe. That left hand technique.....who even thinks of that?! And then how are you able to do that?! I've tried so hard on my arturia mkII for like a week to get a drum beat going to a bassline with the left hand to ABSOLUTELY no avail. Respect.
Man, a week is nothing. I've been practicing this technique for years now! You can't get good at anything without sucking at it for a long time... stick with it for a while and I guarantee you'll see results!
You back again, thanks man you are awesome
Love the bass instrumentation/voicing!
Thanks for the kind words Brett!
This is Top Tier! great track!
Thank you! Glad you like it 🙏
That Shadow Battle was tough as nails, but I managed to restore balance and return the Triforce to its rightful place!!
Mate you are amazing
Thank you my friend 🙏
IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS
Absolutely stunning as always.
These VGM reharrangements are so cool. If you choose Koji Kondo or Nobuo Uematsu anything will do, I guess. Banjo Kazooie OST by Grant Kirkhope is another masterpiece. There are lots of incredible OSTs out there, so it's always tough to pick a song instead of another.
Thanks for the kind words!
I LOVED Banjo Kazooie as a kid, I need to revisit the soundtrack. I have very fond memories of it :)
Amazingly awesome. Great cover.
Thanks so much Steve, really glad you like it!
Another weekly classic Gil! Great arrangement and playing. Thank you!
Thanks so much Don!

Truly amazing I love this game and soundtrack. Watching you work is a awe inspiring!
Thanks so much!
That was so good! Love this song
Thanks dude!
As always. You R Awesomeness!!!
1987 was playing bars in Austin....and playing video games.
Some were deff tougher than others.
Also watched Utopia Dvd, last weekend. You are so spot on with your parts and if I may say so, your take on some of the parts are just forward thinking and very well done.
Your my Hero on the keys My Friend.
Keep it up, you were made to do what you so...fo shure. Be well in health and all your music. Always a pleasure. TattKing. Aka. Richard King
😎✌🖖👍😍
You're very kind Richard! Thanks for the awesome compliments. The Utopia tour was definitely one if the highlights of my life so far, I miss being on stage with those guys!
@@GLASYS Nice of you to say, " The Kind Part" . But honestly, I only speak the truth. And You my Friend are the Real Deal. I have been listening closely and not just to the video games. The reason I started recording digitally was video games. I really wanted to write tunes for vid games in 1996 ish, and I played the shit out the games.
Always seemed to be some kind of quest or the eternal battle of Good and evil. I have a friend of 40 years now, he plays a little keys but, his Father was a keyboard player from Louisiana. So he knows his music.
I' ve know James a long time, but when I saw the look on his face when you were cranking out the vid game songs and soundtracks. Castlevania? Ma....be? SPLENDID
We cranked up the stereo and sub woofer went nuts.
Yea...im long winded, but I am truly so happy for you and New album. I guess in a way, You have been able to do 2 pretty awesome things, and I'm sure many other things.;I was never able too. 1. Tour and Hang with Mr. Todd and the guys.....please say hi to Kasim for us.me, and the kiddos...And.....
2. Be a very accomplished musician and if you chose to , could write for any gaming platform available.
Hopefully we can meet if yooz guys ever come back to TEXAS.
And...Thanks for being a class act, and being so nice to communicate with us to and fro. Best wishes. R. King
@@TattKingMusicProductions that's so awesome, thanks for sharing the story about your friend. Hope to play in Texas again soon. Stay safe my friend 🙏
Oh man this is AWESOME
Thank you! :)
Wow, awesome playing man!
Thank you MiniMan!
@@GLASYS Let me know if you ever wanna do a videogame cover collab. We have a similar multi-instrumental counterpoint style
Brilliant !
Thanks Gustavo! :)
Amazing!

Oh man thanks so much Justin!
GLASYS you’re * for all the grammar police
Supremely well done!

Amazing job ! ! ! ! 🤘
Thank you Stephane! 🙏:)
love your channel man!
Thanks so much for the support dude! :)
C'est juste incroyable mec. Le talent que tu as est vraiment impressionnant. Ce genre de performance mérite plus de vues ! Et en plus c'est ma musique préféré de tous les ZELDA !
Merci OXO! I don't speak French but I can understand enough to know that those were compliments 😄
I love this!
Thank you! 🙏
Excellent as always! That wiggly Prophet X was killing me, though haha
Haha wiggly Prophet X. Yeah some of my keyboard stands are pretty old, I should replace them :P
GLASYS no judgement or anything. Just reminded me of my Roland MKB-1000 that does the same thing on a $60 keyboard stand I bought in the early 2000s. I know the struggle!
Great stuff man
Thanks! 🙏
This may not be my favorite zelda game but this game definitely has some amazing music, this is one of them.
How is this possible?! Wow!
Thank you! 🙏
Another excellent performance. I laughed when you looked up at the camera! I can imagine how you absorbed this music while playing video games! Thanks again, Gil.
Haha thank you Gary!
When I watch your videos I look past my screen so it looks like you have four arms. That way I don't feel too envious of your skills :)
AMAZING
Thanks Ulo!
Holy fuck. Just amazing.
Hey thanks so much! Appreciate it 🙏
Lol my teacher loves this game bruh I know this this took soo much time and dedication as well!!! Thank you for making this awesome solo!
Thank you Joshua! :)
WOW it's so cool
Thank you! 🙏
Some beautiful synths and beats for a punchy cover :)
Thanks Duhemsounds!
I saw a clip of this song being played through an ad you placed on instagram and my first thought was “I need to find this song”.
I appreciate you checking it out man! This is exactly the reason I ran an ad, to hopefully get this out there to people who would enjoy it. Cheers dude :)
So hard to do that! You’ve got skills!!!
Thank you! 🙏
You bring great shame upon my music with your incredible skills! You're some type of inspiration my man!
Inspiration, awesome! Shame, please no! There's no such thing in music. Thanks dude!
Sublime 🙌🏻
Thank you 🙏
Don't know why I hadn't heard this one yet, absolutely perfect. The underlying baseline (I don't know what to call the big buttons properly) is just superb. It's maybe my favourite part of all your videos? Also really love the high sound you used from 1:07 - 1:31. Just, wow.
Thanks so much! :)
Yo guys this man deserves far more than 16k subs so if you haven't subbed and you like this there's plenty more great songs and they are always bangers so definitely sub
dope af!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks dude! :)
Super man, your a superman🎹👍
Thank you! 🙏
WOW!
nice. I've been playing zelda 2 on the switch. had a hard time beating it when I was a kid!
Hell yes
My only complaint is that it isn't longer! Great work mate!
You are a superman. great jobs

I've never seen anything like this. That´s a busy left hand
1:09, 2:10 ❤❤👏👏 reminds me of some of my favourite Muse songs
🔥🔥🔥🔥
I think you might be the most talented keyboard player I have watched…
You are incredibly kind, thanks so much
@@GLASYS Absolutely! cheers and keep making us music! 🍻😁
The Legend of Zelda 2 The adventures of Link such an underrated game.
Even though Zelda 3 is my favorite.
@@80sHairMetalFan agreed!
nice
Thanks!
That's the sound of a game that's out to murder you every chance it gets. Well done!
Haha that's a great way to put it!
Love your stuff! Glad I have notifications on. Have you considered bloody tears from Castlevania?
Sorry I missed this comment, yeah it's definitely one of faves and I'll keep it in mind! Thanks Timothy! :)
so awesome! Can we get this added to your Zelda downloads on your website?? :)
Hey Ryan, I'm going to be releasing this one separately, but if you (or anyone else) want this audio file email me at info@glasysmusic.com and I'll send it to you for free.
Ok I’m done being mad at myself for not being good as you, please tell me what I need to do to play like you 🥺👉🏼👈🏼
Practice every day and be patient. Developing skills on an instrument takes many years. :)
@@GLASYS I think most us know to practice, but not how to practice productively to come anywhere near your level of skill.
@@almightyEsquilax it depends on your personal musical goals... but I'd define "productive practicing" as being able to focus intently on specific things you're having difficulty with and figuring out creative ways to improve them. Many people (myself included) waste way too much time jamming instead of truly focusing on the weak points of their playing.
You need to go into your own dragonball z bruce falconer faze. This is insane
Any chance you can do the SNES courtyard entrance?
I want to see a working mri while this guy is playing.
Sakurai needs to add this version into Smash Bros Ultimate like yesterday.
goldeneye vibes
Thank you for creating this!! Better than the original! ♥️
That's a huge compliment, thanks man! 🙏
Hi, can I use it for an unboxing video? It is awesome!!
No problem just credit me :)
@@GLASYS Thanks, It´s a great perfomance!!
Zelda II is the TMNT III (movie) of the series. Change my mind.
The theme that made me want to completely beat every Zelda game ❤ Melee introduced me to so much good stuff!
Also this theme is so absurdly great, I wonder why they don't reuse it throughout the series as extensively as ALttP's Hyrule Castle theme 😞 tbh I can't remember of a single time it was reused 🤔
I definitely hope they reuse it! It's quickly become one of my all-time Zelda favorites :)
HIYAAA!
Can you please sell an album of your video game renditions?
Yes, I'm going to release a live album with many of the tracks from my videos soon! It's a little tricky securing the licenses for everything but hopefully there won't be any issues. :)
GLASYS I wish you luck. I’m sure it is going to a lot of work. I can’t wait!
Time to go!
Run, and do not walk
It's time to fight San Crenando
Come, no need to talk
Silver Arrows kill San Crenando
He's not Ganondorf
He's not Agahnim
He's not Majora
(it's a stretch, but)
He's not Ghirahim
So let's ride with Epona
To his tower in San Diego
Wait, I could be wrong
He could be down in San Francisco
What about South Detroit?
Where the fuck's South Detroit?
With crème brûlée
What? It made it yesterday!
Can we please turn around?
Not until Zelda's found
One Rupee
10 Arrows
Oh my God
When will RNG give me a break?
From this nightmare
Will I ever wake?
Ceiling skeletons make my knees shake
This experience makes my head ache
Random rooms test my desire to breathe
Stupid P Bags are all monsters leave
Take shots for the dead ends I receive
And all this rhyming makes me want to
Bomb some dodongos
Excuse me, Princess
How about a kiss?
Squadalah, we're off
As we run, and do not walk
It's time to see San Diego
Come, no need to talk
We can fly out to San Diego
It's not South Detroit
It's not Tennessee
It's not Baton Rouge
(Baton Rouge? What?)
Or Montgomery
Oh look it's
As you should have stopped singing by now, there you see that girl
Wearing red
That's Carmen Sandiego
She will steal your heart
Then your bed
Carmen Sandiego
Okay that's too much
Stop singing this bullshit
Is what it says
