    You really tell it like it is, and I'm sure those looking for a home will appreciate your honesty. I lived in Hazel Dell for 18 years and I must say it's a mixed bag. For a few years the wood fence surrounding our community was constantly tagged. Vagabonds would rummage though our garbage on trash day. Unfortunately, I was stuck in my home upside down in my mortgage due to the great recession of 2008, or I would have moved. I never knew that Fruit Valley was a bad area. I remember Sunday morning drives in my convertible, top down, shifting gears through Fruit Valley Road past Vancouver Lake, around through the back country and out by downtown Ridgefield. I never once felt uneasy. I have fond memories of driving the Clark County Scenic Drive. For those not familiar, this is a neat 70 mile loop through Battle Ground, Yacolt, La Center, Ridgefield, Lucia Falls, Moulton Falls, Whipple Creek and Daybreak parks. I remember the break from my drive was always at Cedar Creek Grist Mill. I remember taking my family to see Cathlapotle Plankhouse. For those looking to buy a home in Clark County, please do your research and take note of the surrounding areas. A lot of the issues that were once contained within identifiable pockets are now dispersing more broadly to where many places that were once insulated are now becoming a mixed bag. Even out between 164th and 192nd, which is considered a nicer area of Clark County, I started seeing small occurrences of graffiti that I hadn't seen in prior years.

      Thanks for watching Ben and thanks for the input. Mixed bag is a perfect description for Hazel Dell, some neighborhoods are decent and others not so much. The scenic drive is a nice one. I like to add in making the loop out past Swift and Eagle Cliff and down through Carson and Stevenson. Happy New Year!

      Ben I live in Fruit Valley. It's not sketchy. We just have a few people who tag fences, along with many places in west Vancouver. My wife and I have never felt unsafe walking at night, and the Vancouver crime map is quiet over fruit valley.

    Vancouver is mostly a dump, we avoid it unless we need to make a run to a store that isn’t anywhere else. I used to ride my bike through Vancouver often, but most trails have been taken over by homeless and feel unsafe. Portland spreads like a cancer and Vancouver is its latest casualty.

    It's so sad how Vancouver has turned into. I grew up on Norris road right across John Rogers school. It was a great area to grow up in. I'm now 56 years old living in Woodland Wa. I even grew up in Brush Prairie, Ridgefield and Fargher Lake. I just hope Woodland never goes bad. Thank you for these videos.

      Even that area is really not that bad overall. Unless you’re asking for trouble the only thing you’ll be confronted with is petty theft and car theft. You very rarely hear of random violent crime in the whole city. It’s almost always wanna-be gangbangers that are being violent towards one another.

    I moved into Rose Village last fall, and it's now March. I'm farther away from St. John's and it's very quiet. I walk my dog in the dark and feel quite safe. I have really friendly neighbors too. I knew it was supposed to be bad but it was in my price range, so far I'm pretty happy.

    I grew up in Vancouver in the mid 60's. I lived in the Rose Village (used to be called Rosemere back then) area, on X street just off of 33rd. Of course there was no drug or homeless problem back then but the area was not considered high class by any means. In fact it was considered a bit low class even back then. The well to do folks lived the other side of Main St and I went to school with many of them at Shumway Jr. High. But there wasn't much crime then, always safe to walk the streets even at night, which I did all the time. Times have changed and many cities have drug, homeless and gang problems nowadays. I currently live in Kent WA and we have those type of problems here as well.

    A lot of this could be summarized into realizing that West Vancouver and East Vancouver are totally different places. Take it from experience. I know some sketchy s*** goes down at Bagley Park. I can tell you're not a regular and probably haven't spent much time here because you called it Rose village and not rosemere. A lot of gang violence in that area. Fruit valley used to be really bad until they started moving old people into it. The crime map doesn't do enough. Living here almost my entire life, I can tell you that there's way more cars getting stolen on a daily basis than it shows. One of them was from the homie cuz he didn't know I got a new car. You also didn't talk about the car theft problem on the 112th area. I feel like that's a really important thing to bring up. Orchards also isn't very bad looking. It just has a lot of drug problems. The meth mansion is literally off of 112. There's a lot of stuff I feel like you could have added that I wish you would have. But I don't think anything you said was wrong. I think you just left a lot of stuff out.

    In the past 10 years Vancouver has been over ran by bums and tweakers. Highway 99 and Hazeldell has historically always been sketchy due to I5 and the criminals that use that as an artery to run drugs and other nefarious activities. As well as 4th plain, Andreson from 205 to I 5 area due to high concentration of tweakers wackos. Drug gangs seem to have surged in the past 5 years. Increase of hispanic gang grafiti. My experience having grown up in Southern California and stationed in South Mississippi for 6 years is that i never experienced any property crime in those 2 areas or any other unsafe situation. I moved to Vancouver to be close to family in 2013. And had been a vicim of property crime 2 times and even had to draw my weapon to stop an attack and luckily did not have to discharge it. Aggressive and unsafe drivers are more abundant here than the 2 places i have lived. Also i live in a decent part of Vancouver and my friend lives a street down and someone tried to steal his construction van. Tweakers know when recycling day is and rifle through the containers to get soda cans which is a crime regardless of how anyone feels about it. (No bottle deposit in WA bums take them to oregon to commit fraud) . And todays bums or what people say "unhoused " or "housing impaired ' are more aggressive and dangerous than what people think. They are not just normal people on hard times. The simple presence of them in your neighborhood poses a signifcant health risk to you and your family. My family and i are leaving the state of WA due to this and unconstitutional laws passed by the government of WA.

      Everything you just said is exactly why a lot of folks are choosing to leave this area and Washington all together. There are still a lot of really great places to live in this area and I still have hope for the areas that are suffering. The pendulum just has to swing far enough for the powers that be to wake up and realize that by refusing to enforce laws on the books, they're sanctioning criminal behavior and it isn't going to get any better. Similar to how Oregon is now looking to re-criminalize heavy drug use/possession...gee, nobody saw that little genius plan not turning out good. Sorry to hear that you've decided to move, but it's understandable. If you're looking for a good listing agent, I know a guy 😉 And also, thank you for your service!

    • @livinginvanwashington
      @livinginvanwashington  Před rokem +1

      Vancouver does have similar problems, just not to the scale that Portland does. We've seen homeless camps gradually migrating north out of the downtown area and going up towards Salmon Creek. Vancouver is in the process of adding more Safe Stay communities for the homeless, so at least something is being done, but like anything in government, the wheels turn slow.

      Hi Josh, thanks for your insight on the area and thanks for watching the channel. It's always great to get input from the folks who live in the neighborhoods and I'm glad to hear that you and your wife have had mainly positive experiences there. That being said, I do have to disagree with your statement that "the crime map is fantastic in fruit valley". The residential portions of Fruit Valley are relatively small and according to the crime map, in the past month, there have been multiple aggravated assaults, multiple motor vehicle thefts, multiple theft calls, multiple commercial burglaries, multiple vandalism reports, and more. And much of the graffiti that's in the area is associated with different local gangs. Again, I'm glad that your experience in Fruit Valley is a positive one and I hope that others who watch the video take your comments into consideration if they're considering moving to Fruit Valley.
