We live in watermelon country here in Texas and all of this is true! We actually eat salt on our watermelon because it brings out the sweetness even more!
So let me tell you , all these watermelon which are big in size , may be totally red and sweet, however donât forget that to make it big red and sweet , seeds has been modified and now it is hybrid which i am not sure if good for health or good just for taste. make your own choice
Natural Natasha is soooo pretty! Of course, dressed up Natasha is too, but natural Natasha is awesome. Great job Natasha. You covered all the key points and in the correct order of most reliable and important to least. The hollow sound test is so crazy subjective and itâs the least reliable yet itâs the one I see many people do first without doing the others. Btw, I recognize this video is about how to pick a ripe watermelon and not whether seeded or seedless is better. đ€Šđ» Very well done video and just in time for the season! đ Thanks Natasha!!
Excellent tips. I like hearing a distinctive snap when I first cut into the watermelon. I forgot bite marks on the outside of the rind can be a good sign that watermelon is ready to eat because some animal wanted to eat the watermelon as well.
Deep hollowed sound doesn't always work. A high sound is still good. Too hollowed meaning there's a hole in the middle, over riped. This watermelon in particular is a primo one with no black hard seeds. Seedless. Yummy.
đ ~ đđđđđ Excellent teaching vid!!! I knew about the yellow field spot & thunking sound clues, but not the rest of your tips. Thx! Sadly, E-VON though i eat watermelon đ every single day, i buy the convenient (but twice-as-expensive) bowls of ready-to-eat đ that the produce guys peel & cut into chunks & keep in the cooler section - i got tired of cutting myself with a big knife when it slips & rolls away from my grasp trying to do it myself, plus too heavy to carry. Sure miss eating the wedges, though. Also, miss the big black seeds - hate choking on those little white ones, plus they're disgusting to eat ... they ruin the whole đ experience. Bravo for telling people to wash it 1st ... it's amazing that anyone would have to be told to do that & to be shown how to, though ... but some do. đ€·ââïž ~ đ
I had to look at this video a couple of times... I think it's the first time I've seen you 'dressed down' or comfortably like the rest of us. :-) Thanks much for the tips here, as my wife and I have always pondered the best way to check them out.
Thank you so much for this video! You are amazing! I just got a watermelon based off your suggestions and it was the sweetest and redest watermelon I've ever had!
I donât think those apply but I do know with cantaloupe when you push on the end it should have some âgiveâ to it; a bit of squishy texture, it shouldnât be hard and if you smell the end, it should smell fruity. Also, leave it out on the counter and it will ripen after picked. Watermelon, on the other hand, must ripen on the vine. Once itâs picked, it will not get any sweeter. Hope that helps.
Bought a seedless today at Wally world, had every sign on it , creme yellow spot , heavy, hollow sound , large green webbing , but one thing I heard was to look for a symmetrical shape , so like a dummy, I grabbed an odd shaped melon, got it home and it was yellowish pink inside , I'm taking it back tomorrow.
She tells us why to pick one with a cream colored spot that means it ripened in the sun, and then lists a few more things to look for and I wish she would have stated why she'd look for those as well... do they also mean it ripened in the sun or other things?
Pro tip- if you pick one and itâs spongey or doesnât have that perfect crisp and sweetness, throw it in the blender with a bunch of ice and make slushies for the kids. Annnnnnd for the adults- add rum. đ
Green stem means it is freshly picked.... brown indicates older plant.... the rest info ia fine.... we grow them here so I know đ
Brown stem may also mean that it fully ripened on the vine and detached itself.
I grow them here, so I know! đ
@@feetsoap4266 green is still fkull of life; juices, the tissue is still vibrant.... whereas the brown ones are dull, but if one doesn't mind it, that is just fine
also wash using some sort of surfectant, not simply water. baking soda and/or vinegar work well. seeded melons are best choice
I always wash the melon with dish soap. Apples, pears, nectarines, tomatoes, cucumbers, for example, I wash with bicarbonate, baking soda.
@@tanja3921 yep. i use dish soap too (always a free and clear one)!
Thank you for the tips!! It is so disappointing to get a bad one!

I have a black man as a neighbor. When we go out to the grocery store, he usually picks them out for us. He has never failed us yet.
Good info. Just wish I could find real watermelon still with the seeds. I do taste a difference!
Maybe you will find one a few weeks later.
Sprouts grocery stores
No difference in taste.
No seeds I believe it's Gmo
@@friends791 That is not correct. More like a hybrid. Not GMO.
