(Laugher that a few placed their bets on overhyped Alexy.)

For those are doubt about Pan still:
Since no western media or youtuber will tell you the full story of what happened in 2021 which lead to all this fury, here it goes.
    >> In 2021 China swimming association held a national gathering, meet of all swimmers in competitive level in a single city. While the swimmers were there, the Chinese Anti Doping Agency (CHINADA) tested all the swimmers 3 times during the duration of the event. They found 23 swimmers with trace amounts of TMZ in 1 of their 3 tests. They promptly started an investigation which determined that the reason only 1 of their 3 tests were positive was because all 23 of these swimmers were staying at the same hotel. Then they checked the kitchen and found trace amounts of TMZ in the meat, in the kitchen counter top and vent hood. All this were reported to WADA. Then WADA did 2 separate investigations of their own which confirmed what was found by CHINADA.
    So to recap,
    1) it was not WADA that did the test but CHINADA, if China wanted to cover it up, they simply could have not reported it at all. No one would be the wiser.
    2) The TMZ found was trace amounts and only in their blood test after that meal, their initial blood tests were also completely clear.
    3) Pan Zanle was not amongst those 23 swimmers. This whole thing was not an issue until the NY times digged it up and made a stink, then USADA got US congress involved (not sure why since they don't have jurisdiction). Just so everyone will be clear who WADA favors. US pays 10% of WADA budget annually. WADA is based in Canada, has not a single member from China. And, WADA has given last few years, 66% of all Therapeutic Use Exemptions to just 3 countries, USA, France and Australia. Just happens these 3 countries have the most swimming medals. And, all the top US and French swimmer including Leon had severe facial flushing at the end of their race that is a clear side effect of bronchodilators.
    4) Most doping tested swim team in Paris was China, that is fact, 6-7 times more than US/Austrilia/Canada/France. And all Chinese Swimmers are clean!

    • @ni9274
      @ni9274 Před měsícem

The fact that you say french swimmer is cheating cause of purple face just show you're as bad as the people who say Pan is cheating, Léon Marchand was tested multiple time in this Olympic
China has more medals than France and Australia
If they tried to cover it up it would make them look even worst so they just injected TMZ in the meat to create a cover up story, if 23 US swimmer had tested positive to a banned substance they would have been banned, no matter what was found in the meat afterward.

I think your list is quite fair. I personally like Pan very much and I’m also Chinese. But most of the swimmers on the list have been known around the world for quite a while. I know people can be quite prudent putting him number 1 considering he’s relatively new compared with others and gave up some of the other races (don’t get me wrong, I’ve got faith in him getting better and better in the coming years). Some of us are a bit sensitive at this time as so many rumours and speculations are going on baselessly because of his astonishing performance in 100 freestyle and thus might have accused you unfairly (probably mistook you for your friend?) but please don’t take it to heart. I think you are quite neutral and can see your passion for swimming.
A fun fact: Pan actually disclosed in an interview before the Olympic which was just made public that he was glad the last time he broke the WR on the 2024 world championships was only 46.8 that people didn’t think he could swim even quicker and took him lightly.

I wouldn’t call pan relatively new compared to the others. In the west we maybe see him less but he’s a known factor.
I also wouldn’t call it baseless. Pan did not test positive. That’s a fact. But the concern here is with over 20 positive tests and a lax wada procedures it’s possible there was a program wide doping program as has been seen in the past. Especially with tmz working for far out from a meet there’s serious concerns even with the current testing regiment ; which is dumb btw as its wada trying to cover their ass in a way that makes them seem like they are being strict but all their really doing is posturing. The margin also matters here if he had won by a little he’s well known and while I’m sure there would still be some chirping it’s not unreasonable. By a full second is gonna raise some eyebrows.
I like pan I think his form and aggressive start to his races are really intresting especially to watch but until there’s more clarity on the situation it will loom large ver his results. Hopefully this will pass with time but it’s certainly not baseless.

Because I am Chinese so yeah I’m really uncomfortably familiar with the way the government does its propaganda. I can’t consume a lot of Chinese media anymore because the propaganda is so cringe.
But I am also aware that different sports work differently in China. If it was a gymnast or diver caught doping, I’d say the suspicion on everyone would be pretty fair. But swimming in China takes on the more individualized private club model like it does in western countries. So while the Chinese government does use its swimmers for propaganda too, swimmers aren’t training under a government controlled system most of their careers and PEDs wouldn’t be able to be pushed en masse.
Sun Yang is a good example of this, because that man was so doped up his team attacked a WADA rep who’d come to collect his samples, but he mostly trained in places like Australia, not China. So whatever doping he did was driven by his coach and his team, but by the state.
If there are top-down doping programs like we saw in Russia, it’s going to come from the top of the national sport organizations for certain individual sports. But based on evidence we have, right now it’s more that a lot of individuals are doing it of their own volition, and when they get caught the state helps cover it up to save face.
Because to be honest-if there was a state-run program giving athletes DEPs, the Chinese government would only put it into action after it had bribed the right people to ensure no athletes would test positive. That’s more in line with the way the ccp functions.
But people don’t really dig into these nuances. They just think “oh authoritarian government” and assume everyone operating under it must be doing the same thing and controlled the same way.
That’s what bothers me I guess, and often I can’t even argue against it without making myself sound like a mouthpiece for the ccp which I’m absolutely not. And because a lot of Chinese people will make these same sweeping assumptions about the west, I often find myself making these same arguments in Chinese and I wonder why I even bother
lol if you bothered reading this far thanks for coming to my Ted talk’

For anyone saying doping, they need to read WADA’s own statement.
Yesterday, the United States House Committee on Energy and Commerce held a hearing titled “Examining Anti-Doping Measures in Advance of the 2024 Olympics”. Despite the title, the relevant organizations with responsibility for the anti-doping program during the Olympic Games were not invited. Instead, its focus was on a no-fault contamination case from 2021 involving 23 swimmers from the People’s Republic of China.
The hearing sought to further politicize a relatively straightforward case of mass contamination that has been turned into a scandal by a small number of individuals, mainly in the United States. It was another example of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) being dragged into a much broader struggle between two superpowers. As an independent and largely technical organization, WADA has no mandate to be part of those political debates.
For this reason, and because we did not want to risk prejudicing the ongoing independent review of WADA’s handling of the case in question, the decision was taken not to send a representative to Washington D.C. this week.
WADA’s job as the global regulator for clean sport is to strive to ensure that athletes of the world enjoy the same protections, rights and responsibilities whether they are from Boston or Beijing. When we review cases, we must always think about what is fair to those athletes, whatever their sport and whatever their nationality.
Conversely, the hearing in Washington D.C. was filled with the sort of emotional and political rhetoric that makes headlines but in fact does nothing constructive to strengthen the global anti-doping system. The talk, led by Travis Tygart of the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), was all about how other countries and WADA were not playing by the rules. Given what we know about the anti-doping system within the U.S., one can’t help but think about the words of the American politician, Adlai E. Stevenson: “A hypocrite is the kind of politician who would cut down a redwood tree, then mount the stump and make a speech for conservation.”
To this day, 90% of athletes in the U.S. do not enjoy the protections provided by the World Anti-Doping Code (Code). That is because the main professional leagues and college associations refuse to be brought in under the system overseen there by the USADA.
Even the remaining 10% of athletes in the U.S. are not receiving the sort of support they deserve, a reality illustrated by the fact that 31% of American athletes under the Code were not sufficiently tested in the 12 month-period prior to the Tokyo Games.

      @someone5002 Před 22 dny

Unfortunately, too many suffer from short attention span. They're not going to get past the headlines (DOPING! FOOD CONTAMINATION) . Instead they cling onto sound bites and talking points favored by conspiracy theorists.
Reality is the 23 Chinese swimmers were cleared of any fault of doping primarily because the trace amounts (nearly 50 times below the minimum threshold for doping or microdosing) and negligible in enhancing any performance for the January Chinese national swimming meet or many months later for the Olympic trials or Tokyo Olympics. The tests covering 3 consecutive days with some days 2-3 times varied within a few hours of negative to low positive or vice versa, also inconsistent with doping. All the samples from the 23 swimmers were uniformly the same trace levels. Meanwhile, swimmers staying at another hotel were tested negative.
All those scientific evidence combined to support no deliberate doping, which WADA, World Aquatics and IAT accepted without appeal, while the what and how of the food contamination was the least relevant in the conclusion.
Because the swimmers were absolved of deliberate doping, CHINADA and WADA, in line with a policy that even USADA advocates (except hypocritically), decided that it would not be fair to publicize the case - just as USADA doesn't disclose many outright doping cases (including the undercover mole operation that USADA didn't inform WADA and against their policy).
The biggest joke is the most effective trick to avoid a positive test is EVASION - the same ploy used by Lance Armstrong. Despite his bellowing, he wasn't tested remotely as much as he claimed either. He dodged and weaved out of testing. And when they finally pinned him down, he was already tipped off of the impending test so he could mask the drugs or take diuretics to flush them out or infuse with saline solutions to dilute the drugs to undetectable levels.
And unlike today, biological passports were not used to keep track of the athletes blood metrics to notice abnormalities. Mind you, Michael Phelps resisted the call for bio passports when he was competively swimming. Huh, I wonder why, eh?
Best way to catch a cheat is to test often and be vigilant about it. Or else USADA is giving carte blanche for athletes to dope up while the cat's away.
