I always had like a distant memory of going here as a kid. I thought it was just some kind of fever dream though, glad to know it actually happened. Great video!
I remember my grandfather used to work there (2000) and he invited me to go inside and meet his coworkers and I had a chance to enjoy the fun stuff they had there. 😄 Good times.
been trying to find a good video essay of this legendary place on CZcams for a while and dude this video was so great! used to go here a ton when i was a kid so it was great to relive my childhood through this video. keep up the great work!!
I'm from England, and I visited New York in 2000 as a 20 year old. I quickly found out that I was a year too young to visit the nightclubs, so we stuck to eating out and visiting landmarks and iconic shops. We headed out to Times Square and asked several random passers by where the best place was to eat, and almost all of them told us to head to Mars 2112. We were warned that the food wasn't anything special, but the experience would be, so we headed over. We had a superb time there, flirting with the aliens and just enjoying the atmosphere. From that spaceship flight simulator to walking in to the huge restaurant with the amazing ceiling, it was something to remember. I haven't been back to NY since, although it's on the agenda someday soon, but its sad to know that Mars 2112 closed down and I wouldn't be able to re-live that experience again. Thanks for posting this video!
I went there way to often 😂 as well as Jekyll and Hide since it was walking distance to me growing up. Every time we have people visit NYC I would use it as an excuse to go to themed restaurants
I actually vaguely remember going to this restaurant when I was little. I don't fully remember what I ate there or what year it was or even why I was in New York though... I do remember that I shouldn't have been so hard on the staff there saying "it's just a guy in a costume" though... damn I was a bad kid.
I remembered going on the opening ride as a really little kid and I figured somebody must have made a CZcams video essay about this place that can tell me what happened to it... Excellent work!
That was an incredible video!! Well done. You captured everything about the restaurant and its story and I'm so glad that more people are interested in this fantastic restaurant. Thanks for using my clips too! Glad I can help preserve as much as I can about this old place :) Also where is the clip from 7:41 from? I remember being so so into that thing as a kid. I thought I'd seen every Mars 2112 clip out there but I've never seen that one!
7:41 clip is BRoll from the Souls of New York episode! Thanks so much for all your coverage over the years on Mars 2112! Really could not have made this video without your commitment to preserving the restaurant’s legacy :)
My mother and my father took me there when I was 4 or 5 years old. Coolest place ever to be as a kid, I thought I was actually on Mars. I’ll Never forget this amazing day, well before mom passed away and when dad had some silver in his hair instead of only white. My parents were older when they had me lol
I remember going to Mars 2112 at least 3 times with my Aunt and cousin. We parked multiple blocks away and I remember walking what felt like forever to get there. Every time we went it was for a birthday occasion just going out to eat. It was okay as a kid I guess i think i remember going around 2010 or a few years earlier. I think I had mozzarella sticks and a cheese burger basically bar food like applebeese.
Excellent video, well-written, well-researched, and full of juicy B-Roll. Used to go here and the old Jekyll and Hyde club on 6th Ave w my mother after she got off work on Fridays. There's a surprising lack of footage from the former, seeing so much of this place in such great detail was a real treat (esp that ceiling shot, man that thing was high). The giant screen in the dining room was usually broken 9/10 times tho, I don't even remember what they had playing on it It would be the biggest hit in nightlife were it still around today, not sure what that promoter was on when he thought denying Shaq entry was a good idea. Guess he got the last laugh tho since he's an A-List DJ now When I saw that rocket at 9:12 I lit up cause I remember hiding inside that thing as a kid in the arcade. Between the two themed restaurants, Mars 2112 was my favorite. I still have a keychain of the alien at 4:33 I got from the gift shop stashed away somewhere in my closet. Wish I could've been there for the parties
I remember back in 2004, when I was four years old, and my parents took me and older brother(who was 6 years old at the time) over here. I thought it was cool, the food was great, loved the atmosphere. But now it's gone, but I had the best memories over here.
I remember my friend and his mom well as me and my mom taking the subway to this place one Saturday afternoon after our weekly piano lesson when my friend and I were 7. The food there was really good and I spent a ton of time in the arcade mainly playing Marvel vs Capcom 2.
yessss MvsC3 is what i have now but MvsC the 1st arcade game captin america was favorite theme song and chun li was and still is the character i use and win with a lot
I NEVER heard of this existing. Odd because I should have seen commercials for it since I grew up and have lived in the tristate area most of my life. Very interesting. I'm sorry I didn't get to experience it. I HAVE gone to the Jekyll and Hyde restaurant in NYC and enjoyed that a lot so this might also have been fun.
I just found the real life FNAF 57! (Or the alien/space themed version of Five Nights at Freddy's). This is what kept me from doing laser tag when I was a child. I was scared that something like these alien mascots would pop out and people would have to shoot them with the fake guns. I was crying like a baby to not go inside when the rest of my cousins went. Maybe I was just too young for that.
Loved the place, really miss it and still think about it to this day... one time got 3hr one way transport there just for dinner when was out of town... 👽👽👽
My mom loves to tell the story about when we went here and saw roaches, but when we told the waiter, he said there's many different forms of life here on Mars! What a weird time
I always had like a distant memory of going here as a kid. I thought it was just some kind of fever dream though, glad to know it actually happened. Great video!

I loved that place , just the look and walk thru was set up like you weren’t on earth anymore.
I remember my grandfather used to work there (2000) and he invited me to go inside and meet his coworkers and I had a chance to enjoy the fun stuff they had there. 😄 Good times.

I remember seeing the big space-port screen back when I was 12. It felt so real at the time.

This video is amazing omg, editing and script are perfect. Thank you for creating this!
I used to work at this place! Worked in the kitchen and up front. Was fun but expensive.

They definitely got the '2112' from the Rush album. There's no way that's a coincidence lol

This is an extremely well made video. I just found out about Mars 2112 and I would give anything to go there during its prime.
It was finally replaced! By the first DTF on the East Coast!
I went there when i was 5, i loved Star Wars as a kid and imagined it as being in the Mos Eislei cantina
I went there as a Kid.. Boy, Was I too young to understand it.. But it was a trip... For sure.
I remember coming here when I was a little kid with my brother and dad and buying the iron man game on psp lol
