    Even though apparently the Chimp brain is ever so slightly larger, it appears the Chimp is burdened with incredibly fear and aggression. It seems that overall Orangutan is more intelligent because it can think more calmly as a result of being less aggressive and less fearful.

    • @KatieBellino
      @KatieBellino Před 10 měsíci +2

      Chimps seem to be more prone to psychopathic behavior. With such close dna to them, humans can likely learn a lot about some of our mental illnesses by studying chimps. On the flip side, orangutans seem to encompass our empathetic, community-minded traits.

      I know! I've always been interested in great apes but never knew that bonobos existed until I was in my 30s! As a kid growing up in the 60s and 70s I recall that movies and television presented gorillas as aggressive and scary but just about every children's show or sitcom had at least one episode with a chimp. Back then chimps were presented as cute and cuddly little people, and I think that's true prior to puberty but it was a real shock in the 80s and 90s when we started to see that mature chimps can be scary as hell and dangerously aggressive, but gorillas much less so. And then to find out after all those years that TV and movies had completely ignored bonobos!

    While i can't be sure what was actually going on...I once saw someone do quite an athletic slip and fall in front of 2 orangutans. They started laughing before I could, but as the poor woman who'd fallen rolled to her side holding herself in pain the apes became concerned. Now, anthropomorphism is what it is, but I swear they seemed...embarrassed for their laughter, or maybe just regretting it...they did know and like the woman who had fallen.

    It's so sad we live in a world where animals that are meant to be wild,free and thriving in their natural environment have to be hunted or killed for financial gain and then the ones left behind have to be cared for by rescue groups,zoos etc just so they can be safe and try to have a life😢

    Why was the orangutan defending themselves from macaques so funny. He just jumps and plops and just so nonchalantly swings a stick

    My important advice to Orangutans: Don't evolve too much, that's enough for you, now you are enjoying your life but when you become human, your life will suck!!

    It’s like the governments of Borneo and Sumatra (and the governments of importing countries) have no control over how their rainforests are clearcut. No where else on Earth where these orangutans can survive on their own, and still the slash and burn continues.
