I still want this house lol Love the layout of the space and how open it is. Beautiful design! Always wondered the logic of having seemingly two front doors as the garage leads to a road and the front door leads to a road. The only logical conclusion is they live on a wierd pointed corner between two roads... Or the fact it's just a set haha
That's one of the lovely disconnections with these TV house sets. We all spend time wondering where rooms, roads and sidewalks might actually be in real life.
I just wanted to say thanks for the upload. This was one of my favorite episodes and it was so cool to see a glance at the behind the scenes. Very cool video!
What insane timing. Im literally watching this episode and wondered what the full set looked like so I looked it up and it happens to be this video of the same
Hi Scott. Yep, the audience seating on most sitcoms is only 15-20' away from the "stage". That's one of the defining features of doing these shows in front of a "live audience". I'm glad you enjoyed this old clip of mine.
Been watching nightly lately. Got to wondering if there was behind the scenes, particularly on how they design all Tims mishaps. Coincidentally I happened to see this Halloween episode last night, so this was a surprise seeing this.
I'm glad you enjoyed watching this old video. As far as I know there aren't any behind the scenes clips of Tim's mishap stunts. CZcams probably has some outtake reels, which is about as close as one can get.
watching this show every time a new episode was on in the 90s...now i watch reruns every night 4times a night and a;waus liked behind the sceens of great show...this was one of my favorites....no show today is better then this! always wounder how did they make AL like that with a green screen or blue screen to hide the rest of him?
I'm glad you enjoyed watching this old clip I shot. We did some green screen work but most of the hidden effects were done live. The post production team was amazing in what they came up with for the rest.
Looks like they didn't use 35mm film cameras, looks like they just used regular standard definition digital cameras which recorded to tape, which means we will never get an HD remaster of the show
You're correct! Home Improvement was recorded in the video standard of the day and not on 35mm. The best it's ever going to be is in the original 640x480 NTSC format.
The standard reason for all of these types of decisions...money. It cost considerably more to shoot on 35mm; with all the attendant costs of personnel, equipment, processing, editing, etc. "Home Improvement" was an ABC/Disney production and they just weren't convinced it was worth the additional cost. Maybe someone will come up with an affordable effects process someday to emulate HD.
Why tf do you want a remaster? That is completely illogical, redundant and unnecessary. The show looks perfectly fine the way it looks right now on Hulu. It doesn't need any form of remaster, and implying that it does makes you a bad toxic person who makes the world a worse place. Stop trying to "improve" things that DON'T NEED IT. If something is good and fine the way it is, LEAVE IT ALONE.
Thanks for taking a look at this old video of mine and sharing your interest. I'd be happy to try and answer any specific questions you might have about sitcoms.
RANDY BAER 1. How long did you work on the set? 2. Did you all become a family? 3. How did you get the job? 4. What is it like now that it's over? 5. Do you get steady work, if not, how do you deal with it? 6. What is your education? 7. Do you still keep in touch with any of the cast and crew? 8. Any advice? 9. What are you working on now? 10. Did you find this work difficult or over demanding? 11. What was your favorite part? Thank you for responding. I'm such a fan of the series. I can't imagine what it was like to be a part of something so magical.

I never realized how close the audience was before

This is really cool!

let's go for a remake of home improvement

@@RBBaer Thats such a shame, other tv shows back then sometimes used 35mm film, I wonder what the reasoning is that other shows used 35mm

Randy, is this your footage? I'm thinking of doing this type work but need some kind of input, true story. Any input is gold (if possible).
