This 40-year-old eatery’s unkempt, garage shed sort of appearance, in sharp contrast to the well-kept decor of restaurants on the Goa tourist trail, may leave the first time visitor a bit perplexed, but I was told that when it comes to the local’s preferred haunt for fresh seafood, Sharada Bar & Restaurant, now named Gopal Bar after the owner’s demise a year ago, stands tall. And so I discovered during my visit here, incidentally I was the only tourist on the premises, over a delicious lunch of drumstick prawn curry, clams, mussels, oysters and chonak masala fry. The sort of soulful fare that helps one get past the rustic vibe of the place. Hope you enjoy this episode; take care, stay safe and strong. Happy eating!

Parboiled is a rice that is partially boiled in the husk. I had seen my grandparents using this technic where the rice in husk was soaked overnight, the next step was boiling the rice in big pots and then drying it before dehusking.

Sir, the ukde rice or the parboiled rice gets its name because it is prepared by boiling the rice grains after it is harvested and dried in the sun. Once it's thoroughly dried again after boiling then only it is taken to a rice mill for removing the husk. The finished product is the what you enjoyed along with the prawns curry loaded with the drumsticks. This type of rice has more fibre and Vitamin B compared to any polished rice.
