    A few months back I watched one of your older videos and decided to give building a RAT clone a shot. It took a while but I got it working after some encouragement from you, and I've been really grateful ever since. I'm now on my 10th+ build and have already sold a couple of custom painted cases. It's legitimately one of my proudest accomplishments. I've been making art for fun since I was a kid but have never actually sold my artwork to anyone, ever, and building guitar pedals has given me the medium to finally sell my art. I can't thank you enough, Jason.

      Conversely, as somone who thought they really wanted to build pedals, I realised this is absolutely NOT my thing.
      Honestly though, really awesome to read that dude. Best of luck on your new boutique pedal company! People like me need people like you in the world lol

    I spent the last 8 hours building my first pedal, an acapulco gold clone. Need to figure out why I suddenly get no sound now that I placed everything in the enclosure haha! I can definitely see the appeal now, it's almost a meditative experience soldering all the tiny resistors, capacitors etc and going from a handful of small parts to a functional pedal, very rewarding. Great video!

      If it worked outside the box it is likely just a jack grounding against enclousre (: I do a monthly QA on Patreon if you ever want to ask some questions, thanks for watching!

      It will easily end up taking as much time or most likely even more than building the pedals or playing them , at least in my experience. and I knew nothing about any of this prior. It is a blast though and sometimes I wonder if I've started to enjoy just building shit more than playing with it.

    I've built a few pedal from kit companies (BYOC, General Guitar Gadgets, cheap Amazon kit). One piece of advice that I'd give is to have a multimeter available to properly identify each resistor. As someone who has red/green colorblindness, I found it very difficult to discern the different color markings on the resistors. The brown and black, red and orange, and blue and purple can be difficult to tell the difference, but if you use your multimeter (helps to have the alligator clips), you can accurately measure their resistance.

    I built some tagboard pedals and it's easier than you think. The Tagboard FX homepage is a great source if you are into DIY pedals. I prefer potentiometers that are soldered directly on the PCB or tagbourd as it makes everything nice and tidy inside the pedal.
    If you want some great sounding and very easy to build DIY pedals, God City Instruments do cool PCBs. I just guilt a Brutalist Jr and a Hannibal and they sound awesome!

    • @FuzzlordEffects

      The soft switching requires another mini sub circuit that would have to be added on. Maybe I’ll have to design an add on kit for this (:

    • @Mogwai06
      @Mogwai06 Před rokem

      Is that like the JFET switching or boss type set up you'd see a lot? I can never remember what that's called? Id always wondered this about those switches some pedals have that you can operate like typical footswitch he's or hold them for momentary operation of certain things. I've not used one yet in any pedals but there's a bunch with that switch in them. Wasn't sure if that would entail extra circuitry that you'd not normally have to include, aside from what the momentary action is driven by, for example like making your delay go apesh*t while it's held down, into crazy oscillations.

    Talking about ground loops... I find you don't need to connect one of the jacks to ground, the metal pedal enclosure itself will do this and avoid a loop, otherwise you WILL have a loop. Perhaps different if the pedal enclosure is painted and thus not conductive

    • @2007bmpgti

      Yes. You're messing with electricity, there's always a risk to mess something up bad enough to fry anything. Hooking your output up to a 120v rail would probably be bad, yeah?
