Max's performance was breath taking.
Take a breathe kid
I think Kattar would agree with you
You're breathtaking!
@@DaveTheDopeFiend ah chucks...
Meh.
The crazy thing was Max didn't just do that to anybody, he completely outclassed a killer, like a legitimate top contender. Kattar beat Dan Ige, Shane Burgos, Stephens and was likely going to beat Zabit Magomedsharipov over the course of 5 rounds and he just made him look like he wasn't even ranked?
I know, that's what I'm saying. Calvin is no joke, gave him a good chance to win. And max made it seem like he didn't belong there. Fucking levels .
@@pdworld2418 volk lost the 2nd fight in most peoples eyes... just such a shame theres incompetent judges
Volk edged rounds 4 & 5, with round 3 being close. To me its a matter of scoring criteria than judging. 10-8s should be given for a knockdown. In that case Max still wins 47-46 at the very least. He def won the fight, but 48-47 Volk is completely plausible given the scoring system. Volk has hacked the system lol.
To me this was way more impressive than the Ortega beating since Ortega isn’t known as a striker and kattar was seen as the better boxer and some people even said more technical striker and for him to dominate him like that shows he’s a different breed
@@Agsf256 4real, str8up ....completely agree.
It's one of, if not THE best performance in MMA history.
facts
IMO Rory vs Lawler, Tony vs Pettis and this one is just the best I've seen in my life.
@@Nina-jc3be performance not fight
Its a one sided delivery
Chris Lee would have scored it 49-46 Kattar
max lost to volk on both occasions whether u fanboys oppose it or not lol he won 2 rounds and got clapped in the rest. max dominates kattar and suddenly y'all forgot how he got destroyed and dethroned by the champ
?
@@ErenYeager-gx5pi lol, is this Volk? I like you too man, chill.
😂😂😂👍🏽👍🏽
@@Lumbeelegend ayyyy brother we have the same name :D
Feels so unreal we ended the 2020 with Fig/Moreno and we start the year with Max/Kattar. MMA Gods have blessed us.
I'd give all the good fights back if we got the khabib vs Tony fight.
@@tradecraftsecrets nah im over that fight lol tony woulda got smoked
There is no god
@@tradecraftsecrets it woulda been sad to watch.. even more sad than the gaethje and oliveira bouts
Max made Kattar look an unranked fighter. That was a phenomenal performance.
Ortega 2.0
@@joelhayman985 Ortega 2.0 vs Max 2.0? If versions 1.0 are anything to go by....
Max looking better and better every fight. Can’t wait to see how Brian matches up with Volk, but as of right now, I think we see Volk/Max 3 afterwards
@@joelhayman985 now katar just needs to shave his head come back and beat the shit outta TKZ and he’ll get his title shot
@@xSmokeoutxSlawthx think he’s just saying it reminded him of Max vs Ortega, I feel you tho
Max's style was a perfect fit for the ABC debut, wildly entertaining but you don't have to worry much about the fight ending too early and leaving a ton of time to fill.
lol
24 fights.... never knocked down. INCREDIBLE
That's a pretty crazy stat considering he is primarily a striker.
And he fought killers like Aldo and Conor and he's seen Anthony Pettis in his Prime the dude is Incredible
Fighting power punchers like Aldo, McGregor, Kattar, Stephens, Poirier & Ortega too!
Correct
Ive been dropped by middle schoolers and this fool is out here taking the best shots from the best in the deepest divisions in the world lol
That performance from Max was more impressive than any knock out I've seen
He looked like a ninja at times. Spinning back kicks, striking and disappearing like smoke when Kattar tried to counterstrike.
I’ve known Calvin for 20+ years. I was rooting for him hard. I follow UFC.... Holloway put on the craziest performance over 5 rounds that I have ever seen. Holy fuckin shit did Max turn it on, he fought as perfect of a fight as I have ever seen, maybe better even. I give all my love to Calvin just to soldier on though, when he started throwing back in the 4th I was very proud to even know the man.
@@jonstackelin1861 Calvin is a fuckin savage the heart he displayed was legendary
Here's the reason why Max Holloway 1 he was Landing more volume and most Fighters can't handle throwing that kind of volume only other people I know who that is Nick and Nate Diaz somebody like it Conor McGregor they throw heavy heavy punches so that's why they kind of gas out well that's crazy that Holloway through I'm up almost 700 strikes what really impressed me is Calvin kattar that guy took a hell of a beating and he has heart for days to keep on swinging
@@jonstackelin1861
I've known Max for 30 years and he almost killed Calvin
Rich Franklin at UFC 58 only other 50-42
50-42 x2 as well. Different scoring criteria though
Calvin went to collect the freshman’s lunch money
Max went home with a pocket full of cash.
Dayna!
Dude that shit was so lit when Max was yelling "wrong freshman" in his face. IN HIS FACE
Max took that comment personally. Brought back Freshman flashbacks.
Wow. Just wow. I’ve never seen a 50-42 ever Jesus Christ
The speed and skill of Max's combos was absolutely beautiful.
Definitely has the case of having the best boxing in MMA
@@SeanLives Holloway doesn’t have the power that Conor or Poirier have. He relies purely on technique and precision.
Adesanya and Poirier are both up there but I do agree
Volkonovski
@@felixnolasco2683 no, he relies on volume. Like colby. But more pop.
I think Masvidal still has the Best Pure Boxing in the sport but Max is nasty wit it.
I was waiting for Dan Hardy to yell “stop the fight”.
He would have, but I got i into his head on IG today. look at the ESPNMMA post with him, DC and John Anik wearing yellow jackets
I *was* yelling "stop the fight!" a couple times in the fourth... Then I laughed because I thought of the Hardy incident. History repeating, almost.
OctopusWithNoFriends me too, I was yelling like crazy. That was too much damage 🙅♂️
Lmao
Haha, me too!!
I think the problem with max when he went to 155 was that he didn't pack on muscle mass and just cut less weight than he normally does. He Just didn't gain Poirier respect in there, but he still won a couple rds. So it wasn't a one sided beatdown. I would like to see Max at 155 but with his body filled out properly like how McGregor and Poirier done. If max can keep up the pace and performance like tonight at 155 i think hed be a real real fucking problem at the weight class. If he does go up and does it properly this time i want to see him vs Oliveira. And this may be recency bias but i genuinely think he can be champ up there. Provided he puts on some muscle and still has his movement speed and pace.
Yeah, I think max, in an attempt to make the weight cut more doable, has really burnt off a lot of muscle mass. Helps keep his endurance too, but homeboy needs to really commit to 155 If he goes up again
True. Nunes, Poirer and even Jones are making those proper adjustments, because it's a 10 lb jump!
In my opinion, Max's problem when he fought at 155 was that he had to fight Poirier. Poirier has very technical striking, I compare it to "tunneling", a baseball pitcher's way of making different pitches look the same coming out of the pitcher's hand so the batter doesn't know what to expect or they think they know but it's a completely different pitch. If you just watch the 1st round at half speed you'll see how Dustin uses a lot of the same entries and sequences to condition Max's reflexes but he varies the attacks he uses from those positions, which is how he confused Max and caught him flush multiple times. Dustin's also very good with his guard on defense utilizing his hands, forearms and elbows to block shots as well as rolling with the punches that get through the guard so they aren't very effective. I agree with you I think Max could move up to 155 right now and cause a lot of the top guys problems regardless of his FFMI.
@@chirbin0nidhogg623 most pro fighters use water loading to make weight they don't specifically try to lose muscle mass.
You are right. He was skinnier than even Ortega and yesterday too. He ain't no 155er. He needs mote muscles.
A truly legendary performance.
Luke the lighting is on point! So professional!
It’s the stuff like this tht you rarely notice, but it makes all the difference in the quality of the viewing experience
I really appreciate the effort morning kombat in general puts into their production value
@@shaikim-shapiro1453 Wanna go tip to tip?
@@donnyj5805 the kind of stuff people only tend to notice if its done poorly
That was a goddamn masterpiece. Max is the GOAT FW
Kattar’s corner should be ashamed of themselves sending him out for that 5th round. Good job letting your boy catch some CTE in his early 30’s
Agreed, they were telling him to go for a knock out when they should have thrown in the towel in the fourth
FACTS....CTE FOR SURE!!
I thought so too. He wasn't making a dent in Max, barely a scratch....so let him fight another day
Was kinda surprised that Herb didn’t stop it after the elbow barrage in the 4th. That was tough to watch.
then we wouldn't have seen that no look right and slips from max. just enjoy the thing. let them destroy themselves they dont need your sympathy
About the no stoppage: Herb almost stopped it several times in the 4th, but Kattar was paying attention to Herb's body language and would throw heavy just in time to buy him some extra moments from Dean.
Watch Big John's explanation about why Herb didn't stop it, he couldn't. Calvin was doing just enough to keep him from stepping in. Similar to how Luke explained how Anthony Smith was doing just enough to defend himself against the beating Glover was giving him.
@@gilbertoflores7397 I agree
Max really did a good job today, he didn’t even let Kattar get started. From the beginning he was lighting him up with consistent punches and ended with 361 landed strikes.. Max looked great!!! Kattar didn’t even get a chance to get started, Calvin is gonna look back at this fight with some regrets as not throwing more punches early on..
Did Max give Kattar a chance to get started, though?

Max looked like Muhammad Ali at times really
greatest performance i’ve ever seen
feel the same
Yeah, deffo up there
Sat and said the exact same thing to my brother. Genuinely witnessed greatness tonight. It was mesmerising.
Same
That was insane
Calvin got a Masterpiece painted on him and still managed to end fight on his feet. Good on him but this fight is gonna change him forever moving forward.
It's one of those fights that you know is going to be a cross roads moment. Max tee'd off on him at will. I love Calvin but he needs to go back to the drawing board.
Kattar is still my guy, but holy shit. Max is scary good, he slipped 4 punches without even looking. The fakes, the variety of shots, the range management. Kattar would've had to have brought a knife to beat Max tonight.
Yeah man, Max was on another planet tonight. Easily the best Holloway we’ve ever seen.
"Wouldve had to have" fook you mate
Max Holloway looked godly with the striking tonight. This shit made me want to train🔥🔥
I was genuinely worried for kattar's health towards the end... It was like one of those long boxing matches that's a brain damaging beat down... Max is no joke
Greatest performance I’ve ever seen and to do it on ABC is awesome
I'm from Oahu and I can't get over how happy, proud and blown away I am by Max last night...
Best performance in UFC history? Yep!
Top 5 for sure! This is why we watch!
By the end of the fight I thought he was gonna say “I’m Max Holloway, and this is my MasterClass”
Not how I seen this fight going.. Ya, I wanted max to win for myself but I didn’t see Max being that Dominant!!!
Really shows you how good Max AND Volkanovski are. Those 2 live in a complete different dimension compared to the rest of the division.
Just noticed the channel has exceeded 75k subscribers! Congratulations 👏
Max’s body work was incredible tonight. Those shots made his boxing combinations and those brutal elbows super effective. Max is still getting better as crazy as that is.
Can't wait to see the full analysis!
Thanks for the content Luke! Morning Kombat is the best MMA show period 💯💯🔥
“My dude will land on you”😂😂
Really appreciate your insight on Calvin Katter and how tough he was last night
Max is on ☝️ bmf
👍🏼 good shit Luke
There has only ever been one UFC decision as one sided as Max's win against Kattar which was Rich Franklin vs David Loiseau at UFC 58. Scores were identical 50-43, 50-43 and 50-42.
That's the only other time that a 50-42 was given as far as I'm aware.
Edit: Scores were actually 50-43, 50-42, 50-42 in the Rich Franklin fight
Thanks for that!
I believe it was two 50-42s and one 50-43
@@detectivejonesw
That's what I thought but on mmadecisions it says two 50-43's so I thought I was just getting my wires crossed.
@@sarcasticgenius8563 hmmm seems like different online sources are giving different accounts of the score

I loaded it up on Fight Pass and fast forwarded to the end, you're right it was 50-43 and 50-42 x2
Wow. Just, WOW. Max has never looked better. Wow.
Iconic performance
Missed all the fights I thought they were on tonight.
"My shoulders are all jacked" - Luke Thomas 💪😭😆
Do you think the crowd helped Max, since he was more animated, started shouting in the ring, and seemed to be feeding off of the crowd's chants?
I'm gonna say probably, but he also looked really good in his last fight so idk
Crowds help dudes like Tony,Max,Conor imo
Personally, the Aldo fights were more impressive because of the stakes and the opponent. that said, this was an absolute masterclass.
True. This is also the second time that a number of people, myself included, thought that Max was gonna lose to the rising contender and instead he put a life altering beating on him.
Nah i feel this had more significance bc everybody was doubting max and he had something to prove coming off of consecutive bad results yk.
@@thiefinthenight9492 second volkanovski fight was very competitive. I wish max won as alex with his patty cake low kick act is not fun for 5 rnds, but no one with a brain thought max looked washed after that fighr
This felt like a culmination of all the skills Max has shown in the octagon. I'm glad he's been showing more offensive diversity in his last 2. It felt just a tad one note in some of his prior fights.
Great episode.
Holloway is WAY too Fast! it was like a Cat playing with a Mouse... Kattar had no chance.... not in a single round...
And Kattar is WAY too Tough...
Best chin in the UFC, without a Doubt.... Who can take 445 SIGNIFICANT Strikes?????? Only Kattar.
I will never forget this fight legendary!! Performance was amazing
I was trying to find this on your personal channel. I didn't realize you switched it over to Morning Kombat.
Max we love you from down under! You the real champ
The whole fight i was like HO-LEE-FUUUKKK😬😬😬
One of the best performance s I've ever seen Holy shit
MAX put on a brilliant performance; simply beautiful to watch.
I had to video call my brother mid fight cause i was HYPE and when he answered he had the same stunned face i had
Great take Luke!!
That was seriously amazing! Max will be wearing gold by the end of his next fight! Blessed Express Rolls Through baby! YA'LL MUST OF FORGOT! #RealChamp
That last round... max is too fucking good!
I still have chills thinking about max's performance. GOAT
Some fight of the year discussion in this one, the first card of the year! Crazy!
Katter's corner did him a huge disservice. Virtually no fighter is the same after that type of beating.
I couldn't sleep for hours after this fight I was so pumped. Incredible Max
Imagine being rush Holloway watching his dad do that to a guy on TV. Goddamn that boy has to be so proud of his dad, superhero type stuff right there.
That’s a life changer for Kattar
Max came out like a bat out of hell and sustained his pressure nearly the entire fight. We've seen Holloway look untouchable...Ortega but his whole demeanor was different in this one. With all the Max praises aside, what about Kattar...SAVAGES.. Even after nearly being finished twice he was still a potential threat with his power. Unbelievable fight. Will Kattar be the same after this is the question.👊🤘
That was the Goat of mma performances
Good calls. I'm surprised you didn't mention the "released" danger of Brown and Condit. I think one of them was on a last fight on contract deal. Whatever happened to 60 releases by the first of the year?? Did I miss it ?
I have not been watching MMA as long as some (7-8 years), but that was the best display by an individual in any sport that I can remember. Not only that, but Max is an awesome guy and an entertainer. I dont think I have ever enjoyed 30 mins of anything, as much as that fight last night.
Max is the most natural but effective fighter there is at the moment.
Insane.
Luke looking sharp with a fresh cut!
Max's feints were incredible tonight
At one point I thought Kattar may have broken his left hand, he was holding it very open and throwing a ton of left elbows. Insanity for taking that insane beating Max put on him. Easily one of, if not, the most impressive display of striking I’ve ever seen.
When Kattar was against the fence you could see Dan Hardy standing in awe
I'm not sure if people pay attention but dan is standing 90% of the time during the fights mimicking the fight it's a bit weird he really wants too fight again 🤣👍
Not sure a ref stoppage was warranted at any point. A corner stoppage would have been fine tho. Many boxing corners would have stopped that fight.
Superb man
Boy.
Featherweight Champion: Max Holloway 🤴
I’ll keep preaching it.
75K lets go!!!
It was a great performance by max truly great !!
Max put on one of the best performances of all time. Incredible.
I went into this fight thinking Kattar didn't have a chance and Max still shocked me how great he looked. Max put on a legendary performance.
What a fight!
max best boxing at 45
The Best really is Blessed !!! Gooood Dog what a beating he dished out tonight !!
Great card. Spectacular main event !!!
I’m glad they didn’t stop it early, cause then they woulda said anything from what if he would of landed a knockout punch or an elbow.. This way it went all 5 rounds and No questions asked..
"Let's just let our guy get punched in the head another 150 times on the off chance that he lands a hail mary" is short sighted. Kattar might not show it right away but his career got shortened & his future quality of life worsened based on that beating. Dude's coaches let him down.
@@Hickey563 oh yeah even IF he hit that Hail Mary in the 5th it does absolutely nothing for him because everyone knows that max is still a way better fighter and the damage taken was not even worth a title shot which he would probably lose due to that amount of damage and the difference in skill between him and max, volk and Ortega (if he beats volk)
Max went Ultra Instinct in the fight, Kattar showed alot of heart and I would have stopped it in the 4th round but scored the fight 50-43.. Amazing performance.
Is it just me or did Max look like lighting next to Calvin Katter ...he looked so much faster and dealt with the leg kicks really well
Before the Volk ll fight Max mentioned in interviews how the police were strictly enforcing covid protocols at local gyms so he had to work around that. We are still in the pandemic, numbers are still bad. The fact he came out and looked like that is amazing. What did he do? Like Eugene said Max's camp is super under rated and i think it showed tonight!
He's never looked better in spite of these conditions. It's bizarre, it's almost spooky
@@shaikim-shapiro1453 I'm honestly speechless. CLINIC
I got tired from watching Max fight, but he’s not even breathing heavy
Kattar was beat down in dream shattering fashion. He has to wake up today and reassess his career. Brutal. Max is a different specimen.
MMA corners (& a lot of fans) need to understand that even IF Calvin somehow had won, it would not have been worth the damage he took. He will never be the same. Kudos to Max though, legendary status on display again
Althoguh this beating was rougher, people were saying the same about Ortega.
That was probably the greatest mma performance ive seen, partly because how good Calvin looked in his recent fights and he was still swinging with bad intentions far past the point where most would have fallen.
I wouldn't be surprised if this motivates him into a better fighter down the line. That being said a 4th round stoppage would have been justified
@@jj80808 I agree that Calvin might become a better fighter and Ortega showed it's possible, but personally I don't think we should be gambling with that possibility as one of the potential outcomes of a hellacious 5 round, utter beatdown in MMA
@@bileductable yeah definitely, the cte and broken bones aren't worth the warrior mentality. For that reason I wish throwing in the towel was more prevalent.
Calvin mentioned he spars pretty hard as well and was in there for the win no matter how damaged. So i doubt he will say he has any issues with the corner.
We got one of the most iconic rounds in ufc history and all fighters know the risk,I was just saying not to count him out indefenetly for getting dominated by Max
I saw a guy on Kansas City Chief's warming up doing a wrestling stance drill. I'm pretty sure he watched it.
To be the best, you gotta beat the best, and the best is Possessed!
Best is blessed baby
Even if he's fine from the physical damage his confidence is probably shattered as well you can't lose that bad and have the same confidence
The greatest main event performance in UFC history and it's not even close.
Agree 100% on Luke's take about stopping the fight. Absolutely legendary performance by Max Holloway.
Max is an inspiration. Don't know what else to say.
Happy the fight wasn't stopped... That 5th round was more gangster than the Stockton slap
