When asked by a member of the studio audience - on the Bruce Forsyth show in 1993( a You Tube clip) - who was his closest and best friend in showbusiness,it was so nice to hear Howard respond that his oldest and best friend was Kathryn Grayson.Given a different career before going into showbusiness and the right schooling,he felt that his operatic base voice would have suited a career in opera.Hearing Howard and Kathryn singing opera and operetta together would have been quite something!
A wonderful pairing of superb voices and great acting skills. Mr Keel and Miss Grayson were ideally paired and best friends too by all accounts. Together, they have created heart-stopping moments in musical theatre and film. Thank goodness they have been preserved for all.
Howard Keel and Kathryn Grayson were Exquisite! One of my favorite movies. A real tear-jerker, too. Ava Gardner was a real standout in this movie as well.

One of my absolute favourite musical films ever!! Their voices compliment each other beautifully, i have always loved this genre and was definitly born 30 years too late!! They make me feel warm and contented inside, fantastic !

People say that Kathryn's voice went better with Mario Lanza's voice and that they were more compatible and yet all of their songs together never gave me the same feeling this one did. Howard Keel and Kathryn's voice go beautifully together in this clip.

I agree with watkiSus, I got "Showboat" for my mother (my mother has "regressed" with Dementia and other challenging situations). She was overjoyed to see it and has watched it repeatedly ever since, (me too cos I go to see her every day) and I must have been born too late because I just find it so captivating and "You are love" just makes me go quiet inside and almost tear full because it is so tender and powerful too. What a great movie! Its been like a tonic for my old ma and continues to be.

The way she could use those beautiful eyes was fantastic and,even though he was happily married, I'm sure this scene must have set his pulses racing. It is very sad to think that both of these great singers are now dead.

I still feel as though I should be about twenty years old - until I look in the mirror and see the truth!! Nevertheless, age is an attitude of mind as well as the number of years we have lived, so I still enjoy life, and hope to do so for my remaining years.

I don't care for these old musicals except for this one I own it and watch it often it's amazing powerful epic Howard Keep is great he a much more real and charming leading man than Mario lanza who I hear him compared to and Kathryn Grayson is so perfect Ava Gardner........Love. maybe one complaint Joe E Brown didn't care for him Jerome Kerne wrote these songs back in the 20s is pure genius
