Cross sectional anatomy of the female pelvis

  • This video deals with the anatomy of the pelvis and perineum in transverse anatomical and axial CT sections. The video begins with a transverse anatomical section at the level of the iliac crest and continues down to the perineum. The anatomical structures in the sections are linked to diagrams and plastic models for comparison.
    The anatomical sections are arranged to match the orientation of CT sections to provide a better understanding of the imaging anatomy of the pelvis. The arrangement of pelvic and perineal structures is followed in (18) serial transverse anatomical sections of the pelvis and perineum and compared with (6) representative axial CT sections at different levels.

    Musculoskeletal structure:
    iliac crest, sacrum, coccyx, iliac fossa, superior ramus of the pubis, body of the pubis, ischiopubic ramus, ischial spine, ischial tuberosity, obturator foramen, acetabulum, head of the femur, neck of the femur, greater trochanter of the femur, anterior superior iliac spine, the body of a lumbar vertebra, zygapophyseal joint, transverse process, spinous process, ligament of the head of the femur, acetabular labrum, interosseous sacroiliac ligament, pubic symphysis, sacroiliac joint, hip joint, gluteus medius, gluteus maximus, gluteus minimus, iliacus, psoas, rectus abdominis, linea alba, external oblique, internal oblique, transversus abdominis, subcutaneous fat, pectineus, gracilis, obturator internus, obturator externus, levator ani, coccygeus, puborectalis, erector spinae.
