  • A brief video showing how many ash trees were struck by the emerald ash borer on my homestead. Ash trees in America have no resistance to these borders, and once the borers attack the tree, it's doomed to die. I do a poor job of counting the trees I cut in the video, but I believe the final count is around 20 already cut with at least 5 more that remain to be cut. #homestead #homesteading #ash #borer #invasivespecies #chainsawman #chainsaw

Unfortunately there's almost no call for ash around here except for firewood. The lumber companies don't want ash lumber and most woodworkers don't much want any of it either. If we can't make railroad ties out of it we just make firewood or dunnage out of it.

@@uglyapplehomestead1310 if you get an Alaskan mill for a chainsaw or even a small portable mill you can plank some and make live edge slabs!?

@HuckThis1971 we've got a Woodmizer at work and sell a fair number of live edge slabs. Most people around here want red cedar or oak. Any time we saw ash we end up hanging onto it for a long time until someone finally agrees to take it instead of oak for a project.
