I’m going to comment this in public, with my name, in case it ever gets back to Steve Martin. “That felt good…” “…Sure”. That’s the same vibe I got when I heard him say “I’ve been playing since the 60s. I should be better. I know.”
Man…you are better. You played with Earl Scruggs. You’re playing with Alison Brown. You got me out of my chair learning clawhammer. You’re a transformational banjo player. You’re a transformational musician. Don’t question that.
This is how country's supposed to sound. ❤
As mandolin player I so enjoyed this session. One word "tight"
Check out Sierra Hull, she is the bees knees ;)
@@aportilla007Piggybacking off this to say that Sierra is playing mandolin in this session, and plays with the likes of Béla Fleck and Edgar Meyer a lot too.
Steve Martin: a verifiable renaissance man extraordinaire.
And certified baddie
Solid dude for sure.
This is wonderful. Steve Martin is an American treasure and bluegrass captures the true soul of America. Bravo!
Amen
100%. Steve Martin is my favorite. Love that guy!
It's good he decided to learn banjo to become a legend in bluegrass, because he was far from a legend in comedy
The KING
I am 71 years old and just found Bluegrass Banjo music. I have listened to this video probably fifty times in the past week. I wear bluetooth hearing aids and stream audio directly from my MacBook. Sounds exactly like I'm in a concert hall. Totally incredible....
That is a whale of a piece. Gentle, soft and smooth and still complex. Kentucky Bourbon on strings!
I love how you described that!
Wonderfully warm and cheery which is what we need in these troubled times❤️❤️❤️🎵🎵🎵🎶🎵👍😁🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Steve Martin just became even cooler to me!
I love you the most with a banjo, Steve Martin.
Oh Steve…what a joy it is…
He writes his own music notation, too?!!? Cool. The guy is a genius.
Sierra Hull is a huge star in her own right.
Well said Charles!
Quite so Charles! This performance sure cements that in place, how is so much talent in the same room, wow!!
That is some of the happiest sounding music I have ever heard.
I liked seeing Mr. Martin doing comedy through the years, but I love it even more seeing him pickin the Banjo. To both of you I thank you for the great entertainment.
Only banjos in the building at Hillbilly Central ❤️❤️
Saw SM live touring his album in Portland, great show.
Tremendous respect for Steve Martin. Thank You Alison for sharing this wonderful session.
Such great music 😊
Bluegrass always makes me happy.
Steve Martin, rad. Y'all didn't mention Sierra Hull, Stuart Duncan, and Critter!!!
Yeah, and you didn't mention Todd Phillips, the best of the best.
Wholesome.
Excellent. Steve Martin ages like a fine wine.
Steve doing a bit of Grandpa Jones here!
Steve Martin is a very good comedian and actor.
Jus Smilin Here.
This what makes America great ,,, all star crew ,,, all star recording ,,, classy ,, original,,,
from Canada
MAGNIFICENT!!
This was just BEAUTIFUL. These are some of the greatest musicians alive today.
what a magical journey!!!
Has Steve Martin not aged in the last 20 years? Like, he just stopped. Proof that playing the banjo keeps you young.
The great Sierra hull on mandolin
Love this! Just Scooby Doo marvellous.
I am a metal head, but every time I hear this, my eyes seem to leak. Kuddos to Mr Martin and Ms Brown Great song!!!!
Love the little smile on Steve's face at about 00:33... like he knows it's going to be fun.
Any group including Sierra Hull in which she doesn't get top billing is a VERY good group. And this is magic music here.
😂 Haha. Insert "Stuart Duncan" "Chris Eldridge".. still works 👍
It's a shame Justin Moses wasn't there as well. Justin would have been the reason I stopped to listen.
I mean…. even a group with her getting top billing is pretty good, too.
Magical playing
Alison and Steve Martin, with added help on this marvellous tune
Gonna be playing this track again and again it’s so damn good
@@paulelliott3220 I first saw Allison and Stewart when she was 16 and he was 14 at the festival in Hugo Ok (1978) when they came over to compete as a band in the contest (the rest of their band of kids was still in LA). They were impressive then but lost because the singing wasn't as impressive. Best instrumentalists not on the bill. Met Lynn Morris there too when she did the same thing out of Colorado the year before. Fond memories of that festival.
Merlefest coming right up!
Nice to see you pickin n grinnin Steve
This tune is new to me
Marvelous
I'm not used to mellow instrumental Bluegrass
Beautiful arrangement there. Alison was right about the clawhammer banjo melding with the three finger picking. Exquisite !
I had just been listening to this song. I knew Steve was on it, but Hull and Eldridge? That is crazy
I was shocked but super happy to see Sierra Hull included. Great video.
Only Banjos in the Building ❤️
Absolutely beautiful!!
The man doesn’t age!
The circle album. I need to break mine out. Haven’t listened to it in years
This is a Wild and Crazy Video. Very entertaining.
Wow, just wow.....
Quite a mix of styles in one song
Steve Martin has been my favorite performer since the early 70s. Such and incredible actor, comedian and banjo player!!!!
Steve Martin is also a noted author as well as a comedian. The best question about him is what does he not do brilliantly: a real Renaissance Man... 😊
I still say yes
Wonder Full.
❤❤ wow ❤❤
May God grant Steve Martin "almost" eternal life, I cannot image this world without his contributions to music continuing for many, many years.
Poised at the piano the ever ready capeless newsman took to the keys with ease pentatonically approaching the Phrygian scale of a many a stringlessed sheperd's ways of keeping up with who was at whose neck in his immediate whereabouts.
Well just no way to top that😊
This was awesome.
Thanks 👍🙏
The first time I saw this man was on (i think) johnny carson..I fell in love
You get down the fiddle and you get down the bow and you kick off your shoes and throw them on the floor !! And you get out the banjo 🪕 and you do it some more !!! Louisiana Saturday night !! Colorado Saturday night !! Wyoming Saturday night !! AMERICAN SATURDAY NIGHT !!!
Real nice guys and gals
Thanks for sharing.
This is joy!
Soooo tasty!
Bravo to all!
And Critter, don't forget Critter !
Hey that guys good.
Steve Martin, writer of “The Jerk,” my favorite movie. Incredible musician. So inspiring, all these folks!
It was never easy for him. He was born a poor black child! 😀 (But at least he had a special purpose, and his name in the phone book.)
And star of the hit CBS show Brazzos
Lovely!
They sould they be married!❤
Awesome 👏🇺🇸
Steve.Martin play claw hammer style banjo here. 👍
I'm not exactly sure what I just listened to, but it was excellent! 👍👍

The mandolin-to-fiddle transition, from 1:20 - 1:30, especially the overlap, is simply gorgeous
Brilliant!
Sweet tune...
Really great to see someone writing new Bluegrass music and not just redoing the older (but great) music.
Way cool folks. These people are great musicians. ❤ ❤ ❤
Welp now I'm crying. Thanks for reminding me why I do this!
There are very few things better than a really good jam session.
Love
Perfect song to start your day.
Excellent.
Do you know what this gives me??
H A P P Y F E E T!!!!!!!!!
That was Very, Very Cool!
What a beautiful, gentle melody. Song? For some reason, took me back to my youth and became a soundtrack for some old film video I have of yself and friends waterskiing and swimming at a lake hear my hometown in western New York State. Thank you all.
Lovely stuff, thanks for posting the video.
Amazing,...
lovely rich sound.
Steve Martin is a true artist and entertainer. Great video.
you just cant be unhappy when a banjo, mandolin and a fiddle are around.
Blew my mind!!! Fantastic!
Who else clicked on this thinking it was Foggy Mountain Breakdown?
You’re right! I read it too quickly. Glad I clicked on it though
Me too! But it's still a nice tune for the banjo.
Like it tho
Nope. I clicked on it because of Steve with Alison Brown. No matter the song, it's going to be great.
Suddenly the skies cleared when the band started playing.
All I saw was Steve and Foggy Morning Breakdown and I thought it was a reposting of the allstar video featuring Earl Scruggs, Vince Gill et al. This was a great surprise. And yes, Steve Martin is an American Treasure. I dont think he plays banjo enough. At least not for our consumption. I need more.
Beautiful!
Love it!
If that don't make ya tap your toes, then you're probably dead!😮😊
WOW!
The slow fiddle is really nice
This gave me happies this morning! 😊
