Great reaction guys ... appreciate the authenticity of it. Your right, the feelings first time watching it ... humbling, redeeming, familial and overwhelming... so good
I'm not really into shooters, so I never played Overwatch. But way back people kept talking about the similarities in the Hanzo/Genji story and the Yasuo/Yone story, so I checked the cinematic out. Well, after that I watched all others in one sitting and even started reading some lore :D
The storytelling in it and the pure emotion in the narrator's voice is just soooo good.
So yeah, I would like more Overwatch reactions :)
It really sucks when things you get attached to suddenly get removed from the game :/

I'm pretty sure they will still do a campaign/PvE in Overwatch 2 eventually at least last I heard from it.
Also yeah, the fact that Hanzo says he was way better with a sword no matter how good he is with a bow, and that Kiriko pushes him to pick it back up honestly makes you wish they give him his sword back even if it's only for an event or a single ability or something, which is exactly what the story mode would be for because he'd have to go through some character development first to be able to pick the sword back up.
Also even though like you I would prefer there to be more mysticality and magic to it, the dragons are mostly a metaphor they weren't actually dragons and their powers are actually purely extremely advanced technology... which honestly is kind of a mistake in my mind, the Overwatch universe would really benefit from it being a mix of supernatural/technology/otherworldly/science based powers.
Which is why I love Sigma and Zenyatta's interaction:
Sigma: How does this omnic defy gravity? No repulsors are to be detected!
Zenyatta: I owe my gifts to the Iris.
Sigma: Oh, the Iris, of course! We've met.
Zenyatta: How... fortunate for you.
Because Sigma is just such a great open-minded character that absolutely revels in both Science, Philosophy and the Supernatural.
And so the Dragon Powers should in my opinion in fact be more mystical, I am not sure how they explain Kiriko's powers I mean she can literally teleport but I suppose Symmetra can too so it's possible with Technology, but I would just much rather have it be an actual fox spirit than "well it's actually just an artificially created fox spirit" Part of the reason why I love universes like Marvel, DC, Star Wars etc is because they all have the best of both worlds. So the Overwatch universe would really benefit from being less scared to just throw something supernatural or mystical in there.
We know who those bodyguards are the same ones were actually also in the Kiriko Cinematic.
They are basically just a Yakuza Clan called the Hashimoto Clan who have taken over because the Shimada Clan is in ruins because Hanzo got Depressed. Also I think they(Hashimoto) killed their father(Hanzo/Genji), there's a lot of lore out there actually. Genji basically went rogue though eventually causing the confrontation between the two, Hanzo as good as killed Genji or was responsible for it, Mercy brought him back to live as a cyborg, then he started working for black watch, then he ended up with Zennyata who spend a lot of time training him both physically and spiritually and now Genji is ready to confront his brother after all these years.
As for the maps they will probably come back but because 2 CP doesn't exsist right now they would have to make a new gamemode work on those maps, it's clearly too small for push (which isn't a very good gamemode atm anyway) so... it's going to be a bit of challenge I imagine, because the map is very clearly formed for a game like 2 CP so you'd have to basically invent a new gamemode that works on that map as well.
The problem is terrible leaders and lofty goals in unrealistic timespans. Dunno about you but I am not going to continue to play and (like they want you to) pay for enjoyment (skins, cause that's all this game offers) in a game that doesn't even know what it wants to be. This is directly attributed to confused "leaders" who literally dont know what they are doing with the IP. Kaplan cared about the game - now its a laughable cash cow.
I dont want to write a book about how much 5v5 sucks. or how much balance is a joke in the game. or how much taking out old maps and hero skins we already were able to earn for free in lootboxes from giving the game our time - SUCKS.
The OW leadership is clueless. but people are so wrapped up in things they like - it will continue to be this lackluster game that people just dump money into for eye candy.
Also - The dragons being a metaphor? mmm - i guess if you want to root the game in some sort of reality. but being that it's the most unrealistic thing ever and unless i read something that outrite refutes them being born from some sort of magic/mysticism im gonna stay in the grey area of - unconfirmable - ..if you can point me in the direction of some official lore I can read id be down for that.
I personally don't have the patience to handout to the blizz ow decision makers on 'the maps may come back' - they should of never left - push sucks and i disagree that any new game mode need be added for the old maps to be enjoyable - don't change what isn't broken imo.
Iteration in the name of progress ..isn't progress when there's no direction. This team is lost compared to the Wow/D4 teams.
