Just love your commentary and light sense of humor >>> you should have 500k subs... and likes... 1+ here. Thx for the stickers. Tony, Carbondale, CO.
PS... used to be a WW Government Sales Manager for a big Japanese camera company that sold internal inspection equipment (think endoscopes but for engines, pipes, welds, cracks, and so on...). The North Slope Oil companies needed our stuff to save money to inspect their equipment. Anyway, even back then, I used my / that position to travel to cool places to help them, and to help me, to explore... which I did! A lot... Like a personal paid travel service so to speak. Had a great time to say the least. So I've been to the North Slope a ton, and Fairbanks, and Anchorage, but not the in-between... Now into bike packing for a few years now.... And I will go there based off your videos, guaranteed! Thanks Marshall...
Even though I live in Alaska, I am always amazed at how others see its beauty! Thanks for sharing!
Only rode to arctic circle- 40 yrs ago -having worked up from El Paso over with multi week trips over four years. The Denali highway was the rough spot for me ( on tandem with wife).
Hi, I’m friends of Sharon and Dave’s! Heard about your journey many times through them and love that your making videos of your journey! Keep pushing and keep up the great work!

Insane how close you got to that Muskox! I only saw them from a distance. Awesome video
I know! I'm just glad it wasn't a bear!

Oh God I love these kind of series.... I'm a mountain biker, but I'd love to get into bike touring. I'm excited to see this journey and how it went.
You should definitely get into bike touring! You'll love it!
Amazing...a motorcycle is one thing but a bicycle?...Its a dream of mine to stand out there on the dalton highway all alone 100 miles from civilization. What a place...I mean for me it doesnt get any better than that.I really hope one day I can fullfill that dream.
Here's to more poptarts thrown your way!
Great job on the first episode mate! Fantastic storytelling and enjoyed the sprinkles of dry, beaten-down humour (that's the only humour we know in Britain). I hope to do this route one day too - we recently cycled the length of the UK but it's not QUITE the same eh?
Thank you! And yes, I don't think Alaska and the UK are QUITE the same, but I've never cycled there, so who knows, maybe there are bears there you have to watch out for too?
👍👍👏👏
Great episode! Subbed! Be safe and have fun!
Thank you!
Very nice brother
Hey man, thanks for sharing these videos. I’m flying to Deadhorse in a couple weeks to start my own cycling journey to Ushuaia. Was curious what you did for food during the first ~500 miles of remoteness. Thanks, happy trails.
Just subbed
Some achievement, fair play ☘️
Thanks!!
Great video. Any tips we would love to have you reach out to us and talk to us. We are starting in May with our grey wold and going all the way down. Good luck in your journey
👍
Good music choices. Must be some mud funk going on. This is the 3rd or 4th bike video I've seen with bad mud in the last week. As bad as yours was I've seen much worse. This was a nice blend of yourself, predators and scenery - I've seen way too many that are on a trip and it's all about them, why then take a trip? Stay home and film yourself. Safe Travels Buddy!
Thank you! and yes I've seen much worse with the mud too, I'm hoping that's the worst it gets for me.
Gravel shower... that sounds painful..
It's better from behind your cracked windshield.
Pop tart shower sounds better than a gravel shower! I’m heading out for Deadhorse to Fairbanks in July.
Any words of wisdom?
Grateful for your video!
I don't know if you plan on carrying a small chair, but that's one of the things I appreciated having the most and would recommend everyone carry. Definitely bring bug spray and a bug net for your head! And I think if I had to do it over, I would ship a package of food to Coldfoot so I wouldn't have to carry so much food from the beginning.
I like the Nalgene water bottle idea. What was the day you left Prudhoe Bay?
June 4, 2021. Nalgenes are good, but they get brittle and crack over time I think from sun exposure, but I still prefer them over anything else
Nicely done! We rolled out of the Deadhorse airport on 25 June 2021 and are now in Mexico! We saw zero bears the entire way down the Dalton Highway, despite being told over and over there were bears ahead. Then again we made a lot of noise to scare them off. You got lucky with the mosquitoes, we were eaten alive from the very start! The mud!!! HAHA yes the mud, it something else. Also too funny that your legs were done on day one, probably the easiest section. There were some very steep climbs on the Dalton Highway for sure. When did you start? Where are you now? Cheers from Mexico, Ron & Petra
Haha, yes looking back, day 1 was definitely the easiest! Some of those climbs along the dalton were insane!! I thought I was going to get away with doing the whole highway without mosquitos, but it sounds like I should be glad I had the first few days without them.
Started June 4, and I'm in San Cristobal de las Casas at the moment.
Cheers
@@fatnomad lol day one was/is the easiest for sure. We heard about Beaver Slide, Roller Coaster, & Finger Mountain way back near Deadhorse from some of the drivers there. We'd go ride the Dalton Highway again though. Love being out in the remoteness like that. Hope to meet you down the road. We are a few weeks behind having flown home in October from San Diego for our daughter's wedding, then spending a couple extra weeks in Ensenada waiting for my (Ron) Rohloff to be repaired and one other unexpected issue that we'll cover in an upcoming video. Take care and safe travels. ~Ron & Petra
@@PedalPowerTouring oh you're cycling with a Rohloff? Me too! I just had to order the sprocket removal tool, because I didn't realize a special tool was needed to take it off and mine is starting to wear down.
@@fatnomad yeah we've got well over 20,000 miles on ours and other than the little glitch we had a couple months ago they're great. You know the Cog can be reversed right? Also, yeah I carry that tool with us on our tours since most (like 99%) bike shops will not have it.
Inspiring!
Question: How did you get to the top of the Dalton Highway?
I flew and put my bike on the plane as well, as a checked bag.
How quickly did your fitness develop? 800km / 11 days = 72 km day avg. so I guess you had some good days!
It probably took around a month before I could ride for a whole day and not worry about my legs. Those first 800 km my legs were crazy sore everyday and I would take a lot of breaks and stretch, but after a few weeks they got used to it
🙂👍🏻
Thanks for this video mate! Is that possible to cross USA and Canada border by the land? Cheers!
Yes it is now. When I was there it was not :(
@@fatnomad thanks for your answer! can't wait for the next episodes ; )
You should have bear spray and bear bangers. You're a easy snack
I did have bear spray with me just in case, but yes, I am definitely part of the meals on wheels program.
In which month of the year did you start?
I started June 4
@@fatnomad thank you so much 🙌
Hi, What date did you start from Deadhorse?
I started on June 4, 2021.
@@fatnomad thx
Did u see many cyclist other than Dave and S. ?
Thx
On the Dalton Highway I saw one other cyclist going north and that was it. I met a few riding other roads in Alaska. I think the pandemic kept many bikers at home and I believe this year there were a lot of cyclist biking to and from Prudhoe Bay
How many miles is gravel ? Thx
I remember about 75% of it being gravel. It was paved for several miles south of Prudhoe Bay and several miles north of Coldfoot, but that's all I can remember
@@fatnomad thx. 75% to Fairbanks?
Or 75% to Coldfoot ?
How did u get to Prudhoe ? Thx
@@PInk77W1 75% of the whole Dalton Highway. Once it ends the Elliot highway is paved all the way to Fairbanks
@@PInk77W1 and I flew to Prudhoe with my bike
@@fatnomad thx
Bro do you really not own sunglasses ?
When I started I did not, I have now been through around 8 pairs, but at least I usually have them.
have you planned to change your username you dont look fat anymore in your recent videos
Yeah might have to change it to notasFatnomad
wonderful video. i have a question, why do americans eat so many unhealthy dreadful things. pringles do not even contain mostly potatos and the truck stop only served fast food. how do you get the energy on mcdonalds and things like that. mars bars etc.
