    Hello, can you please do a video for odissi makeup for female dancers and drugstore dupes/alternatives for products you are using. Thanks in advance.

    • @Hdaran
      @Hdaran  Před 7 lety

      Hey there. I don't think there's any difference between male and female dancers for classical dance makeup. Most of the products I used are very affordable but if you want specifics, you can take a look at the info box. You can also check out my The Power of Makeup video at czcams.com/video/o_Y2RIZJjPE/video.html
      I would also like to kindly implore you to look through the description box on that video as well.
      The base/foundation layer is from a brand called mi-fi and they have a panc stick and a panc cake. You apply the stick first and with a wet sponge layer the panc cake. You would then set it with a powder (any kind of face/pressed/foundation powder will do). mi-fi happens to be an Indian brand and their products are made in India so I am sure you can find it easily.
      If you are Malaysian then look to Indian Cash and Carry. They carry both the mifi stick and cake.
      Alternatively, any medium to full coverage foundation and setting powder from the drugstore will work. If you want a specific recommendation that you can just pick up from the drugstore, the Maybelline Matte and Poreless foundation and powder would get the job done.
      For the eye makeup itself you can use any flesh tone, brown, red and gold eye shadows. A blusher can double as the red eyeshadow as well. I know of Nykaa, PAC, Colorbar, Lakme (assuming you're from India) all of which carry these eyeshadow colours. Even Maybelline does some good eyeshadows in the aforementioned shades.
      Any liquid liner and eyebrow pencil will do as well. I would suggest looking through recommendations from Indian CZcamsrs for this since they would be your best bet to find products easily available in India.
      Any deep red or maroon colour will do for the lips. A matte finish would unquestionably last longer than cream or satin finish so that may be something to be wary of.
      Hope that helped! Good luck!

    Such amazing skill! And Aynal is right... those brows! I'd like your advice... I am a fair skinned redhead, but I'm studying Odissi and would like to perform eventually. In your opinion, should I accentuate my natural brow color of light blonde-red with an auburn pencil for definition, or should I use black? I want to stay as authentic as possible, but I'm afraid black brows would look really weird on me. :-/ Do you have any dance videos posted? If your dancing is half as good as your makeup, I'm already in awe.

    • @Hdaran
      @Hdaran  Před 8 lety

      +Juli N Awww...... you're too kind. I unfortunately don't have any videos of me dancing odissi. It is simply amazing that you are training in odissi too! Which style of odissi are you being taught? How far along are you in your studies?
      About the brow question, the ultimate goal of odissi dance makeup is to boldly outline features that are centric to the expression of the dance; namely the eyes and eyebrows. Instead of going the auburn route I'd suggest a dark grey or a very soft black pencil. The other thing you could do is not go too overboard with the thickness of your drawn on brows.
      There is another factor that overrules everything; your guru or teacher. My makeup is done as precisely as my teachers have taught me to do (yes, I have had more than one teacher). All I did was put a little bit of my makeup knowledge into it (blending, precision and technique). How the wing was done, the bright red eyelid colour, right down to that upward flick at the end of the eyebrow and the strong highlighting with the gold eyeshadow is all amalgamation of what my teachers have taught me. Hope that helps! Thanks for commenting!

      @AlerieHightower Před 8 lety +1

      +Harivaindaran K.Veeriah I'm learning Mahari temple dancing. Unfortunately, I don't have a guru. :( I live in the middle of nowhere in rural Texas, and there aren't any teachers even in the Dallas area who teach adults. I've taken a couple of workshops with Revital Carroll, and I'm trying to home study with several DVDs for practice. So obviously, I'm YEARS from performing. I was just curious about the eyebrow color question. I think you're right... with the bold, black liner, auburn would fade into the background, and the brows need to be bold for expression. Once again, I LOVE your makeup technique. I hope you can post some dance videos soon. Namaste!

    • @Hdaran
      @Hdaran  Před 8 lety

      +Juli N Ah... The Mahari style. It is the more elusive ones. Smt Revital ji, she's amazing. Shakti Bhakti is one of those true to style odissi troupes that closely follow tradition.
      Thank you SO SO much! I will try and look for a video if I can find one. :)

      +Harivaindaran K.Veeriah How do you decide what color eye shadow to use? Should it match your costume or is there a dark color that will always look good?

    • @Hdaran
      @Hdaran  Před 8 lety

      +MC MC It would ultimately depend on your guru or teacher. My teachers have always used and asked us to use the red hues for the eyeshadow when we are performing classical dance. I guess it could vary. More contemporary dancing like semi-classical dancing, fusion and Bollywood dancing has much more freedom to explore... I have seen dance purists who stick to their gurus and pass that wisdom down in its entirety and I have also seen more flexible practitioners who have taken artistic liberties in terms of costuming and makeup. Hope this helps... :)
