- San Martin have made a handful of watches to sell at a lower price than their usual offerings. This is their latest release. It was launched in November 2023 and is going to be available for $138 in the upcoming AliExpress sale.

WHY I OFTEN DON'T MENTION OTHER BRANDS IN MY VIDEOS.
You may have noticed that I often don't mention the original brands that watches I am reviewing pay homage to. This is very intentional and not meant to offend you or the original brands. I lost my first channel in October 2020 which I had spent 9 months growing and invested a significant amount of money in simply because I had mentioned the original brands in some of my videos. There are people who try to use CZcamss lack of understanding when it comes to the difference between homage watches and fake watches to attack other channels and their owners and sadly I fell foul of this in 2020. This channel was also attacked recently and CZcams deleted content simply because I had said 'subby homage' and 'Rolex homage' in two videos despite the watches in the videos being perfectly legal homage watches. Please understand that I can not afford to risk my channel so I will no longer be mentioning other brands when reviewing homage watches.

If I didn't already own a Rolex Sub (It now dives solely in and out of it's presentation box) and a Cronos Sub, this would have been my choice. Both SM and Cronos exceed my late 90's Rolex for finishing.
You should buy it. Think about it. You can't enjoy a watch that is permanently in a presentation box. So you can get this one and bang it around all you like and not worry about scratching it! I'm a scuba diver and have a Seamaster. I understand your reticence. Though not as expensive I've never brought it on a dive as a DC backup in case I scratch it. I only wear it to occasional special events ! I use my Seiko's. Heimdallr, Steeldive and Orients! Makes me wonder why we buy more expensive watches. I have the Cronos too , but you can never have enough beaters!

If you have a cronos, I think that's the best sub homage, especially with lumed bezel. I have a sugess sub homage, it is great but uses an nh35 movement and nh35 has been awful to me. 4 watches with nh35 movements and all 30 secs off a day. I like pt5000 movements more.
Cronos makes the best Submariner homage period, not San Martin. It even comes with an optional Sellita SW200 movement.

Got this exact model and I absolutely love it. It wears just perfectly on my wrist. I rounded the lugs a little bit using a knife belt grinder/polishing tool, and now it feels charming, too. The bezel inserts look crisp and 3d, which I like, although the bezel is not lumed (except for the pip). The collar-pin-bracelet works fine and the adjustment is not really too bad, I've had screwed bracelets which were a lot more annoying. There is no such thing as a perfect watch, but this one is damn close...

Mine just arrived last Friday! Been wearing it ever since, and it's my first SM. Loving it so far. Great fit/finish, beautiful movement almost on par with a sweeping hand. It was smaller than I anticipated, I'm used to my 44mm citizen pro master. For it's price this is a slam dunk, buy it now!

I just recently picked up a black and gilt BB58 homage in this new more affordable SM range and it’s absolutely outstanding for the money. Easily beats a few of my Seiko Prospex divers for execution and specs at almost 1/3 the price ❤

I got my all green SM submariner 2 weeks ago and it has become my favorite watch.
I collect watches and have quite a few Seiko 5's which I replace the bracelets on with Strapcodes and adore. Out of curiosity I ordered a green/black SN017GB. A week later I bought the black/black on the same model. I don't mind the pins at all I love this model. It's just amazing they can do this around $150. My g/b loses no time for about 3 days. My black is 1 or 2 seconds faster a day. Ceramic and sapphire, beautifully tapered band that I wouldn't dare look for a replacement. I intend to stop purchasing more, wish me luck.

Very nice. San Martin's finishing on their watches are incredible for the price. If i didn't already own a Cronos sub, which receives a lot of wrist time, this San Martin would definitely be considered. Nice review.
San Martin makes great watches but when it comes to the Submariner homage, Cronos is King!
I bought the Cronos subby at the same price point and it has screw link and on the fly micro-adjust. I’ve worn it for about a year and I am blown away at what you get for the money. Is something about the san Martin that much better?
Exactly! You can get a much better Cronos with an NH35 during the sales for around $150. There is no better Submariner homage than Cronos.
I just picked up the watchdive wd5512 in blue for only $53 dollars. I cant see how the san martin could beat it. Its damn near perfect. And for the price a crazy value. And the bezel action is the best ive ever experienced

😂😂 I actually just picked this watch up last week and have been wearing it for the last 6 days now and absolutely love it. The watch is fantastic. Feels great and the finishing is just top-notch. I can’t afford a Rolex. I will wear this all day every day. I may even pick up the titanium one up as well.

While I would like in general SM more, Cronos is no date so no cyclops is a big plus.
Buy the Cronos! I own it and it is the best Submariner homage period! You can get the NH35 version for around $150 during the sales.

Cronos makes the best Submariner homage there is. Plus they have lots of movement options. NH35, PT5000 and Sallita SW200.
I have a quartz addiesdive which has the same case and bracelet as the automatic one that pays homage to the submariner, it is very well made.. but this one from San Martin can be seen even without a zoom that Sam Martin is clearly superior

Good idea. I, usually, don't have problems with pin and collar or screw pins.....usually.
There are some tricks however people may not know of. Like using Locktight on every screw pin before wearing the watch.
A watch handling video would definitely be worth watching for many of us.

No it’s not. It’s the easiest pin and collar system I’ve ever used. Beats seiko and citizens pin and collar systems hands down. Sure, I’d love it to be screws but for the price, man I’ll take it over Seiko or Citizen any day!

@@R023N the dial it's the same. The hands are very similar and have the same color scheme (and even the exact same colors in the black version). Also it takes a bit of inspiration from the 2022 versions which had pastel colours. Not saying it's bad but not an origin design
@@popofofo4701 I don't see anything beyond the 3, 6, 9, 12 being specifically Sinn. The minute track is more of a generic style than being Sinn-inspired. The hands are standard flieger hands. You're just overthinking it. I mean if we're going to scrutinize ever design aspect of every watch, 99% of watches today will be homage watches. Rolex with all it's might will be considered a homage company as they neither came up with designs for the dials on their Submariners and Daytonas nor they were the first to use them.
I would have loved to have gotten this but I have a black Pelagos and i think they're just too similar. If they'd had it in blue or one of the two tone bezels I'd have jumped at it
I would get one if I could pull it off on my tiny wrist. The SN004 in term of dimensions is the biggest I can comfortably wear at the moment😅
Try it out! It's actually much smaller than it looks, 40mm is very user friendly on a smaller wrist
@@RyanMTisi1982 I own both and the SN017 is noticeably larger than the SN004. The SN017 is more like a 40.5, has a deep rehort, etc. Not that it is a massive watch but if an SN004 is the biggest someone wants to go, an SN017 isn't a good option.

@@RyanMTisi1982 Yep, just wanted to share some perspective as I own 4 watches with the SN004 case and also 3 SN017 watches (two of the old and 1 of the new). I'm not in the super small wrist club - but a lot of photos make these things look so similar and it isn't until you experience them that the differences really start to emerge. I'd also suggest someone try one of these with a small wrist, but if SN004 seems "large" to someone, I'm imagining disappointment with an SN017 related to the size.
Rolex comparison should be good.

It’s a shame they still refuse to use the VH31 on their sports watches. I’m sure there’s a market for dive watches under 11mm thick with a more robust movement. Also helps eliminate the superfluous “automatic” text they seem to put on every dial they make.

How would this watch compare with an Invicta Pro Diver?
Way better. As an owner of both, I can tell you the Invicta bracelet is jangly trash. The Pro Diver also has inferior lume, case finishing, bezel action, and it sits taller on the wrist due to the exhibition case back. Plus, the San Martin has sapphire and ceramic, and a more modern Sub case design. In fact, I'm prepared to give my Invicta to a buddy that needs a watch.
It doesn't compare to an Invicta Pro Diver in any way except for the movement. It's leagues above it. The Invicta was an amazing watch for the price point until these showed up. The game has elevated to a bar so high it may never be beaten.
You should start doing wet testing to see how the finishing and bezel paint holds up.

I dont know if the prices for UK based buyers is different, BUT here in the EU the cheapest one can buy this model is 169 euro & thats with their discount coupon, maybe they will shave a couple more euros during sale time, but its still nowhere the 130+ USD price that you are quoting (yes i used your link).

For me exactly the same, in EU different price, just under $173 including discount. I just asked San Martin for explanation.

Keep in mind they always put the promo price in $ without taxes, which here in EU are added up yes or yes for items under 150€.
@@jesusmartinmusic The price i am talking about be it in USD or in Euro is the price WITHOUT any form of taxes. Tax is added to the EU price after the item is in the basket, ergo, the prices remain ridiculously high in the EU in comparison to the UK or US market.
Im thinking (& im probably correct), its how Ali Express view the markets, obviously the EU is last.

Personally think this is a bad move for SM. I’ve got their bb36 homage and the explorer homage. The bracelet on the explorer is noticeably of lower quality than the bb36 homage.

I purchased a ghost watch from San Martin. The last two digits were 17 - G it’s beautiful watch. It’s the blue color, but I had to take a stone to the bracelet and to the case cause there were so many sharp edges the way I test the sharp edge if I rub the edge against my fingernail and it pulls up a little bit of fingernail it’s a sharp edge. That’s how I used to do it when I used to make instrumentsand had the same problem with the titanium version that I bought from San Martin I had the stone bracelet and the corners they were sharp. They’ve overcome this and had a tumbling operation in the process before polishing assembly after they mail the parts they should call him in the tumbler to the parts and then do their polishing assembling.
What about San Martin vs Sugess Submariner?
You're going to compare the wrong watch to your Rolex. It should be the Cronos Submariner homage. That watch is almost a clone of the Submariner. It is the best Submariner homage period! It even comes with an optional Sellita SW200 movement.

They have been lower price than this. Honestly the best thing about this model is the ability to buy the after market on-the fly adjustment clasp.
clock not working
Hiw about a 1 to 1 with the WatchDives version of this watch..? That watch is even cheaper. And ..... how about a working clock on the wall? This is the only watch channel on CZcams, ever, to have a broken clock in the background.

SM makes great watches, unfortunately they don't make anything I actually like. Would love to see their take on a simple, clean, unpretentious stainless field watch, preferably quartz with a date complication. I just don't like divers.
It will be perfect if there is no hole at the side of the clasp.

Regardless of the brand, fiddling with pin & collar is quite burdensome. Some may even be unnable to deal with them at all and will need the help of a watchmaker which means some additional cost. So I have a suggestion for San Martin: add screw pins and ditch the applied logo in favour of a printed one. The watch doesn't need an applied logo since not even a Rolex has one. And last year I was let down by the QC on one of its predecessors. I hope San Martin have also improved on that.

If you are into watches you're going to run into pin and collar systems. All you need is a cheap watch hammer to bang it back in which you can get off of Amazon for a few bucks. San Martin actually includes a tool that can bang the pins all of the way through. Once you know this you are good to go.

I had this watch, the only downside which is a dealbreaker for me is the silver circle between the bezel and the dial, it looks awful in my opinion
