I'm always amazed by the way Frank can take pretty ordinary sounding "popular" music, and take it all next level, like often better than the original, in a first go at it.

He'll not run into me, but I would be that person. Appreciate this: you need to play piano some 10,000 hours for his level of playing. To begin with. If you approach that from reading/performing classical music you still need more. For example improvisation. He went to conservatory (vocational/applied bachelor level music school) and will have studied orchestration and composition - it's the insight he relies on when he "loops" with his performing and improvisation skills as foundation. In the process he has learnt to analyze some musical performance, break it down into melody, embellishments and accompaniment, metre versus rhythm, chords, scales, and progressions with these. You could do this all with an acoustic piano as tool, but still have to learn ins and outs of the electronic gear Frank uses. You would need some of this to be able to play at his level in a band that plays some improvised music. The 10,000 hours are based on scientific research and this indicates that humans for simple tasks need 10,000 repetitions. That's what the Chinese girls have done to win the gymnastic Olympics, with each atomic exercise in their performance. And then blend these into that performance. Famous Jazz musician Charlie Parker, at 14, thought he was good enough to play with the stars of Jazz in the club circuit. They sent him home for not being good enough (nobody worried about his age). Three years later - 10,000 hours, his mother had to move house because of complaints from neighbors, classical clarinet lessons and more - he came back and "the scene" was flabbergasted. If you have no blocking handicaps, the only thing you need to get to these levels is discipline and persistence (or OCD). To put the 10,000 into perspective in case you are in a hurry to get there, as Charlie Parker did: 9 hours per day, 365 days per year, 3 years give you 9,855 hours. Unfortunately Charlie forgot to learn to "live' and have a "social life" and substance abuse (through cirrhosis) killed him before he turned 35.
At that level, it seems that Frank is doing a great job.
lmao someone asked for Etudes by Chopin once. It was a bunch of girls who looked like they were partying, with wigs and cheap glasses and such. Frank was like "Ha!" and proceeded to play it like a beast, from memory, and afterwards, he was like "What made you ask for that?" and she was like "I've seen you before lmao I wanted to give you something hard, but for you, it seemed easy". I'm guessing Frank has a history with playing Chopin ahahahah
@@BenjiQ575 - I made a similar comment along these lines about Frank being asked to play the 3rd (most difficult) movement "Presto agitato" from Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp minor, "Quasi una fantasia", Op. 27, No. 2 (nicknamed "Moonlight"). Frank immediately started to play it, convincingly, by heart. Some of Chopin's études are easier than that, IMO.
The only bad thing I can say about a Frank Tedesco video is that they're never long enough!! Love you Frank!

I love when someone doesn't have a particular request and you just get to jam out on one of your originals. It is a really fun and challenging exercise to improvise requests, but there's always just a bit more passion in something you've created for yourself. As a musician myself, it just feels special when you get to share your personal creations with others.
