    STORYLINE:
Fiji's elected leader split up his Cabinet and went into hiding on Friday as a noon deadline the military said was the threshold for a coup passed quietly.
Armed forces chief Commondore Frank Bainimarama reportedly said he now had the "green light" to replace the government, while Fijian Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase insisted he was still in control and urged Fijians to publicly oppose the military's threats.
Qarase said it was his understanding the noon Friday deadline Bainimarama had set for the government to meet a range of demands or face ouster had been pushed back to Monday.
He did not say where the information came from, and Bainimarama did not comment.
The capital, Suva, remained calm but tense throughout Friday.
Many offices were closed, but an annual sports day between the military and police forces went ahead at the national stadium before a crowd of several thousand.
Bainimarama was expected to attend the main event, a rugby match, on Friday afternoon.
There were behind-the-scenes moves on Friday, but their purpose and outcomes were unclear.
Bainimarama visited Fijian President Ratu Josefa Iloilo for about 40 minutes on Friday morning.
