I love that there is a turtle there also (maybe trying to also dash out the door?)! I was really just focused on that turtle not getting stepped on... LOL!

I love this because the tortoise is trying to escape as well 😆

Thank you for this. It’s a wonderful example of what I’ve termed as “love training”!

Nice! Lovely to see you respect the tortoise to be there as well, respecting it's free will of moving around (even though it slightly hindered your activity ;-) )

Reinforcement is so genius! I taught my dog to come straight back in after I let her out to go potty outside my house with no fence, and people and dogs walking past that she was triggered by. I used her favorite dried fish treat every time she got back in, following her out in the beginning. In the end she got the treat only now and then, and was running indoors every time. I learned from positive reinforcement trainers like you :)

I absolutely love how you've broken up reinforcement and the value of reinforcers in terms of their 'pay scale'! I find this metaphor *so* useful for getting folks in the right mindset for force free training. Excellent video!

I am so enjoying your videos, but am having trouble trying to get through to 6 dogs
I got one of my Coonhounds to sit in one place at the door, I had to keep the others out. When I let them all in, the lesson went out the window, they just egg each other on. I also believe in mutual respect as you do, and I always learn something from you. Guess I will just throw treats into the room and run out the door!

It can definitely be challenging with multiple dogs, however, it is still definitely possible. Working with each one separately and then bringing them together can be one approach. The other approach could be to do individual targeted sessions with the one or two dogs that you find present the most challenge. If you are up for doing an online session with your dogs and would love to film it virtually, send me a message chirag@chiragpatelconsulting.com

What do you use to reinforce doorway manners with the tortoise?

This is amazing, thank you. Any tips on excitement around when the intercom makes noises he hates? Or, transitioning from having your dog sleep on your bed to going to their own bed? I'd be really grateful!

Hi Lorraine you can try recording the intercom sound on your phone and playing it at low volume and teaching your dog what you would like him to do in response. Then raising the volume incrementally.

@@ChiragPatelConsulting that's amazing, thank you Chirag! I've been trying for a 'wait' and treating him for staying calm in the sitting room. We've made progress there, but low level increasing (like we did with fireworks) is a great shout. Thank you very much!
