This is amazing! When measuring the cutout for the bbq, do you consider and extra, Iâm assuming 1-1.5 inch for the board and veneer? So if the cutout depth for bbq is 28â, are you cutting 28â out on the frame, or about 25-26â?
Are you going to be releasing any more videos? Would love to see the progress/finished product of your outdoor kitchen build! Also, I learned how to can peppers and had great success because of you. Brandon, awesome job Sir. You inspired me to construct a similar outdoor space. I'm adding similar landscape lights. Did the wire and top support frame for the landscape lights have any negative effect on the granite countertop? Worried about the wire getting pinched or the granite not sitting right. Great work!
No issues with wires. I notched the top so the wire sat flush with top See here 8:03. Plus any granite company you hire will level the countertop as needed.
I've seen the stone done two ways as it contacts the stainless drawers etc. Some butt the stone veneer up against the stainless and some let the stainless stand proud of the veneer ( which I prefer) and which I think you did. Thoughts?
Looks great! I am however concerned about the amount of heat generated under the counter. Did you use some sort of heat shield? Want to be sure before I build mine. Great job, thanks for sharing!đ
He's got a vent in the side wall near the stairs going into the house. The installation instructions that come with the grill should specify how to properly vent the countertop. The vents are mostly to prevent possible gas build-up and explosions, but do help dissipate heat. The lid of the grill will also vent some heat, even when closed (from the front under the controls to the back of the lid).
Looks great and enjoyed the video and info provided. I think I will use similar lighting. I am just framing my outdoor kitchen now. Did you have to put cement board under the countertop and why? Just to better adhere?
After the fact I really didnât need to put cement board under countertop per granite company. But half way thru I couldnât change that based on my measurements for grill height.
Whats the depth of the top? Im looking at a Blaze grill too. Thanks and looks great.
Hey Brandon. Really like the landscape lighting touch. As installed (under your granite countertop I believe) how do you plan to service if a light goes bad or bulb burns out. I know my garden bed landscape lighting bulbs go out more than I like although they aren't LED. Just wondering if you have a method planned should you have any issues with these down the road. Thanks!
Good question. So that one main reason I went with the higher quality $$$ FX brand versus a cheaper wall light. Everything is accessible on the exterior. Here is more detail of the repair⊠www.fxl.com/support/changing-led-board-lf-wall-light But time will tell!!

Great work, did Blaze call for the two notches with the main cut out? Im going with a smaller Blaze and the two notches are not referenced anywhere?

Awesome job Brandon. You have skills and taste! Question, Did you draw a level line along the bottom of the front of the Permabase and start from there with the stack stone? Since the ground was not level. Then cut the bottom row of stack stone to fill in space from the floor to the level line? It looks perfectly even. Loved your videos' I will use steel studs for sure now.
I was originally going to start the stone on level chalk line but that really complicated it. I actually I just started stone flat on bottom. It worked out at the end, especially if you canât tell. Look closely at very bottom, all full stones. Thank for watching.
This came out great and will definitely reference your video as I start my DYI project. A few questions:
How much of a granite overhang did you include to incorporate lights?
How do you power and turn on lighting? Is there a transformer mounted somewhere and wifi controlled?
Also how much of a gap did you leave at the bottom before stone starts?

Granite Overhang: the depth of top granite is 7in.total With the backboard and stone on the overhang finish is roughly 1.5 to 2in, varies some with the stone thickens in different areas. Where is light at there is only about 1/2 overhang
Lights are wired to my landscape lighting that is powered with transformer. Powers the front and back of house landscape lights and grill all connected together. You could just have a separate transformer for your grill area if you want to keep separate.
No real gap at bottom of stone, very thin to minimal gap.

Really good videos! Iâm having to redo ours bc it was wood framed, not vented well and held water so itâs rotten. Had you ever installed that kind of stone before this project? How easy/hard was it?
It was pretty simple, kinda like laying tile, but vertical.
Great job. Doing something very similar as a first timer. Love the landscape light touch. Potentially dumb question, but did you put cement board inside as a floor or is the bottom open to the patio slab? I'm trying to figure out if there is a need for any type of inside floor/shelves inside the doors for storage, etc. Thanks!

The ledgerstone is perfect. Make sure you choose one that is for outdoors, some are not recommended outdoors because they will ârustâ. We have same stone on front porch of house and inside house on fireplace. Wanted to keep everything matching flow.

i have saw-chopped ledger stone, it is similar to yours, but much deeper. It is chopped on the thin side and sawed on the wide side. So, I thought I should mount it horizontally instead of vertically, meaning the chopped side is exposed and the sawed side is stacked with mortar. How do I lay the stone across the tops of the drawers and cabinets? Should I pull out the drawers and cabinet doors farther from the cement board, so that I can stack the stone on the top of the steel? It needs support, otherwise I think it will fall off. Thanks.
Great job! Did you use a spacer to keep the vent and doors flush with the stone?
No spacers used. Ordered the doors and vent that bumped out some so once the stone was on it was about even. See description in video of the items used.

I aded the doors on first then stoned around them, due to the unevenness of the stone surface.

Hi Brandon. Congratulations on this build, it looks amazing! How did you deal with the stacked stone in the front where the floor wasn't even from one side to the other? I saw that you used over an inch shim on the right side over the left side. Thank you.
Just started from the bottom and went up. The very small gap is under the granite edge. Caulked it after the put in granite, don't even notice it there.
What an excellent build sir. The lighting was great idea to add I didn't think about that. I have a question I was looking at the blaze also and wondering did you need an insulated jacket for the grill? I didn't see one installed or does your grill not require one? This is my dilemma- I want to build with steel studs like yours so its non- combustible.
I did not need the insulated jacket since it was build with ânon-combustibleâ materials.

Don't remember, I was in the installation instruction. But I think the granite people just measured the grill.

Hi. I'm interested to know what happened to the brick wall over the years of use and if it still remains white? I have a similar setup and concerned about the soot and smoke from bbq, even with the backsplash, staining the wall. Thank you
Great Video! I have watched numerous times and I will continue to. I am planning on using the same adjustable outlet boxes but I can not seem to find any weatherproof outlet covers to fit those blue boxes. How di you do it and what did you use?
The outlet cover is Sigma Electric, Gray 14147 1-Gang Universal Cover. Maybe a quick search and you might be able to locate it. I went back and forth on a cover I liked, not many options out there.

No these are low voltage landscape lighting.
I'm thinking about building my own outdoor kitchen looking hard at the exact same grill, how does the grill stay in the hole you left? Also it looked like you had a little notch cut into the counter tops and then when you dropped it in I didn't see it anymore... sorry a little confused
Yes notch on front edge of grill cutout. All info on cutouts in manufacture instructions. Granite people cut perfect to fit.
How did you wire the hardscape lights? I assume they are daisy chained but did you use a transformer?
Yes connected to my current landscape lights via transformer.
Did you leave a tiny gap between the concrete and the stone to allow water to run under if necessary?
Looks great! Curious about how you dealt with the ledger stone. It looks like you slid your grill over the ledger stone but for your doors, you installed them first and butted your stone against the frame. If so, why didn't you also butt up against the grill face? Also, with the specs on the MSI stone being 1 inch deep, did you mount the doors flush with the cement board or did you have a spacer? I would think the 1 inch of stone + mortar would leave the doors looking too deeply set which would be hard to see on the video. Just framing my project out now and would appreciate your thoughts on this. Thanks!
I'm wondering the same thing
Mounted door flush with cement board. Depends on the doors you get, I choose these because of how the edge looked for stone to go around. Too deep set? Guess, a personal choice what you want. If I had set the doors on top of stone that would have looked bad with the variety thickness of the stone, if you did something like tile that is all even you could place doors on top of that. The grill barley over stone on right and left side, gap under grill for air circulation.

All the way to bottom, There is very think gap at bottom.
Did you use the msi actual corner pieces or make your own with the straight pieces .
I bought the corner pieces.
Does the leather finish on counter granite trap dust and dirt ? Easy to clean ?
Anything outside is going to if dusty. Easy to wipe right off.
How did you install the grill? It didnt appear to have bottom support except for the front ledge and i dont see any steel flange on the grill to rest on the countertop.

I love it! I use it all the time, and now have had it over a year. The Infrared Searing Burner is awesome for steaks. The rotisserie is amazing. Love it, great grill! no issues, cooks great, easy to clean.
What happens if you donât add vents? I hate how bugs, spiders, and dust gets inside. I wonder if they sell special ones to prevent things from going inside.
If you donât add vents per manufacture instructions possible gas buildup equals explosion.
