-- MY GUEST --
David Godman has extensively written on the life, teachings and disciples of Ramana Maharshi, an Indian sage who lived and taught for more than fifty years at Arunachala, a sacred mountain in Tamil Nadu, India. He first visited the Tiruvannamalai ashram of Ramana Maharshi in 1976. And for 8 years, between 1978 and 1985, he was the librarian of the ashram. In the last 30 years he has written or edited 16 books on topics related to Sri Ramana, his teachings and his followers.
Quote: âThe thinking mind and the I-thought are one and the same. The thinking mind is an illusion.â
As the author of the book 'Be, As You Are', David is deeply familiar with the teachings of Ramana Maharshi, who is considered the most important Indian saint of the 20th century.

-- THEMES --
âșWho Ramana was and why he was considered the most important Indian saint of the 20th century?
âșHow did Ramana experience Self-realisation?
âșWhat did Ramana mean by âNo effort is required to realize the omnipresent Self. In fact, it has always been realised. Only the illusion of the I-thought has to be overcome in order to realize this.â?
âșDid he recommend any practices or âcharacterâ qualities to realize the Self?
âșCould you explain Ramanas way of teaching? How did he lead his devotees to realize the Self?
âșWere there spontaneous Self-realisations? If so, how did they manifest or express?
âșHow would one describe life after Self-realisation?
âșDoes Self-realisation mean you have to meditate until you pass through different states of consciousness, such as samadhi, or did / could it occur instantaneously?
âșHow did Ramana define the mind and what was reality to him?
âșDid Ramana believe everyone who wanted to could realize the Self in this lifetime?
âșWhat did Ramana mean by âThere is neither creation nor destruction, neither destiny nor free will, neither path nor achievement. This is the final truth.â? Should we (our ego) still strive for something, e.g. Self-realisation?
âșHow did his teaching differ / was similar to other advaita teachers, such as Papaji / Nisargadatta Maharaj?
âșHow did your life change working and spending so much time with many great gurus?

No one is better than you because without it , what ever you learn is wasted. There is no point
So glad to see David on line after a long break. Missed his simple eloquence as he always brings Ramanas teaching alive
I donât think this is new but a while ago
ââ@@lazerlloyd1Yes I think this is something that appeared a couple of years ago on the Beyond Perception Channel .
Sad because I like David very much except where he talks about other ' Gurus ' he has encountered. âïžđïž
@@michaeldillon3113 David is simply pointing out that Bhagavan is the Gurus of Gurus. Once you find Bhagavan youâre seeking is over and all you have to do is be quiet. đ
Thank goodness for David Godman! Without him many of us would have never heard of Ramana Maharshi and his teachings. It has been a revelation reading David's books and viewing his videos over the last decade. Much gratitude and love to you sir.
True. His video drew me to Ramana
To observe without the observer ⊠the whole consciousness reveals itself
What a great presentation of knowledge thank you I just needed to hear this and have a more understanding
First thing first , THERE IS NO WISDOM in Words!
An hour of pure wisdom. Thank you David and Simon for sharing the knowledge and path of Sri Ramana Maharshi. â€ïž
Missed you David
Very beautiful, thank you for sharing your experience with this simple yet powerful "teaching" pointing to truth - nothing ever happened
This conversation is perhaps the most clarifying and clear-spoken elucidation of an inherently murky concept - the Realization. Thank you both for this wonderful exchange.
Excellent interview... đ»
David usually doesn't read any comments, but curious if ever communicated with Robert Adams over the years...whose visit with Ramana at Arunachula at the age of 18 or so 'stuck', to put it mildly. One of the few Americans to have done so, and his satangs echo all that Ramana was about.
David and Robert never met, David has said this on many occasions. David has also spoken very highly of Robert ever time he has spoken about him.
What We call I',
is the Only Real Steady Point,
in Existence,
Behind the Motion-Ocean,
Stuff-side of Life.
Even its 100% immaterial Nature,
it have the most Objective Status.
There is Only the Same I',
it is the Being behind the Living,
that No one have ever Seen.
Our Eternal Consciousness,
is mirrored in the Rainbow.
I', and the Consciousness,
is the Cause-Less Cause.
X1, and X2.
Life can't be Created,
Life is the Creator.
Consciousness can't be Created,
can Only re-newed and developed.
Great to see David JI. But the Simon cloud study more about Ramana before the interview. Weak observations and questions.
David Godman...it has come to notice of many people on internet, that Robert Adams made up his story of being at Ramana Ashram...Some of if is on the authority of none other than Kitty Osborne who has written very vehemently on this matter..also Ramana Asram has no record of Adams being there , ever.Could you clear this matter up pls ?
The many masks of Awareness...
If you see a painting of swans, you will see only swans,
and deluded, not the real, the paint of which it is made.
This is how the One Self gets tricked into seeing a world.
There is only the Peace of God.
When a soap bubble pops
Where is the loss ?
The same space is there,
Minus the gloss !
The Self exists with form and without...
We all know his.boring story
Ramana and Nisargadatta's teachings are basically Hinduism with bells on. Ramana's 'final truth' makes all perseverance to 'enlightenment' pointless,..."
"There is neither creation nor destruction, neither destiny nor free will, neither path nor achievement. This is the final truth''.
Blablabla
Did you smoke weed?
After years of meditating oneâs awareness becomes so clear that smoking weed loses any attraction as it dulls the mind and senses

The ego = (God appearing to be something itâs not) -IE: We might be battling the unknown if they donât - Once you know Father Christmas isnât real, you can never get back to believing heâs real again ??? Not knowing what had happened would have been intolerable - Iâm finding that thereâs something else going on, nothing to do with reading a book ??? - Itâs strange, itâs like itâs not in the words but maybe it wouldnât be happening without the words ??? - Itâs definitely not in the ideas and yet maybe it wouldnât be happening without the ideas, maybe it would be, people go on silent retreats !!! And thatâs the system itself - The things/objects are over (Cloak) emphasised and the awareness is under-played - (Thus awareness is not being conscious, itâs what weâre conscious of - To tell you your trapped by inferring that there is a you which could be free to think thereâs a better way -
But thereâs an ideation of an image called selfing - The mental state points to the after as being the before - (Language emphasis there is an us and uses the subjective experience to make an object of ideation IE: Your the all thatâs been thinking about)
But there isnât a self doing the selfing that implies thereâs a self doing it - Thereâs a mechanical system doing: Thus is reinforcing the nouning that your not - Not. âKnotâ
